AIBU? Circumcision?

Me and my ex have recently split up and we have a 5 month old son. He told me when I was pregnant that he wanted to get our son circumcised due to his religion and that it was really important to him. I was heavily pregnant tired and not really thinking much about it so I blindly agreed. However I have been thinking about it a lot and really don’t want our son to get unnecessarily cut even if it is for religious reasons.

My ex says it’s also to keep him clean but I don’t see the point. We haven’t found anyone to do the surgery as our son was prem so we couldn’t and now there’s COVID-19 so we can’t go now. If I bring it up and go against him, I know my ex will be pissed and it will cause a huge argument especially as it’s so important to him, his mother and his religion.

I don’t want to ruin co-parenting with him and cause issues so I’m not sure what to do/say. AIBU in saying I don’t want to go ahead with it?

Here are plenty.

But sure, you believe that your invisible magic friend in the sky tells you to fiddle with your little boy’s genitals.

So cutting off part of a child's body unnecessarily is fine but giving them ham is the height of abuse.

Please never have children. Although given that your hobbies apparently include bragging about your penis on mumsnet I doubt there's much risk of that.

When my second child was born I had a pediatrician come into my room and be very persistent about wanting to circumcising my newborn. He actually said that fathers want their sons to look like them, even though he'd never seen my husbands dick. We have for profit healthcare here. I was weak from the emergency C section and wasn't up to arguing so I yelled out as loud as I could, "No one is coming near my baby with a knife"! He bolted.

And circumcision doesn't affect the size of the penis.

Additionally the bigger is not always the better.

Further more why would men be reading? This is Mumsnet and a huge majority female.

Oh please do share these peer reviewed studies. If you simply mean they have more children that's likely because they choose to use less contraception.

I am Muslim
I always thought yes circumcision etc as it's the norm.

When my son was born it felt very heavy hearted but my husband took him to get it done.

It healed fine but he still has some foreskin. The doctor said it needs to be redone maybe when he's older.

No fucking way. I told my husband. I let him do it after I changed my mind but I'm not having him butchered away. He can keep it.

I really don't agree with circumcision at all now
And I only just found as well (my own fault) that circumcision is not a fardh (a must in Islam) it is only recommended as sunnah (something the prophet recommended)

So if you don't circumcise your sons, you won't go to hell.
Wish I knew this before.
