AIBU? Circumcision?

Me and my ex have recently split up and we have a 5 month old son. He told me when I was pregnant that he wanted to get our son circumcised due to his religion and that it was really important to him. I was heavily pregnant tired and not really thinking much about it so I blindly agreed. However I have been thinking about it a lot and really don’t want our son to get unnecessarily cut even if it is for religious reasons.

My ex says it’s also to keep him clean but I don’t see the point. We haven’t found anyone to do the surgery as our son was prem so we couldn’t and now there’s COVID-19 so we can’t go now. If I bring it up and go against him, I know my ex will be pissed and it will cause a huge argument especially as it’s so important to him, his mother and his religion.

I don’t want to ruin co-parenting with him and cause issues so I’m not sure what to do/say. AIBU in saying I don’t want to go ahead with it?

You’re right, we should definitely be more like Sudan.

And pork? Please don’t tell me you’re basing your life on the rantings of some old prophet, are you?

www.al-monitor.com/originals/2019/12/egyptians-dispute-necessity-of-circumcision.html

Its early days but one day, male babies wont be circumcised like they are now and be given the choice once they are older. People are opening their eyes to the necessity of it.

You've missed the point spectacularly, its being questioned and concerns are being raised about the practice in cultures where it is currently the norm.

You as an adult have absolute freedom of choice to do that to yourself. You dont have freedom of choice (morally) to do it to a non consenting human for no medical reason. Legally that will change one day too.

Who are 'people like me' and why are you advocating for people like me to be in a minority. You sound like an extremist.

I eat plenty of pork, thank you. I certainly don't need my dietary choices dictated by some inadequate little man

I also travel. What countries would you recommend i visit?

Is there someone who looks after you? Could we talk to them?

... it's not antisemitic or islamaphobic to disagree with the cutting of a child's body when they're too young to consent.

I have.
There a growing movement against it in America and a growing number of men questioning why this was done to them. I'll try to find a link for you.

Actually, the reason it's not much of a discussion in the UK is because most people don't do it.

@Bolschcon2 you sound frustrated. You need to get laid.

So if your boyfriend much prefers your cut member, why are you banging on about it here?

PonyPatter44 · 26/06/2022 23:12

Fewer women, not less women.

Gemale genital mutilation is in no way comparable to male circumcision and given your keenness to bring up that subject, I think i recognise you from other forums in the past.
