Is lockdown making anyone a bad mum?

I use the tem bad mum lightly, but it's making me shouty and snappy. It's lowering my usually quite high tolerance level. I feel like I'm drowning!

They are 5 (next month) and 6.5.

They're getting under each other also which isn't helping.

We are lucky enough to have a garden which helps for a while, weather permitting!

Anyone else?

Ladies. A few weeks of an intolerable level of contact with your kids does not make you a bad mother! (Unless you are locking them in cupboards and starving them).

What’s more, in future years, when they are grown up, they will not remember mummy’s odd unreasonable outburst. I promise you! My 4 are all grown up - and although I still feel guilt for some things I did, they all love me to bits, and I am so proud of them

All they need is to be certain you love them, and that you will listen to them and treat them with respect.

So carry on getting through this awful period as well as you can. They won’t hate you for it.

I could probably tell you word for word the exact script for every episode of Bing. DD had wotsits, bread and butter and some grapes for lunch because that was all she was willing to eat. Then 2 ice lollies. I wish I had wine in the house.

AgentCooper · 03/04/2020 17:14

Yup. My period’s just started and today I had to abandon a work call because DS was yelling and wrecking the joint (he’s 2.5) and DH was blissful ignorant upstairs on a ‘more important’ work call. Then I thought DS would like to help me water my wee plant pots but instead he upended them. I have been such a shouty cow today. Also DS straight up refuses to go for a walk, meaning I’m stuck in the house unless I want to walk with a screaming toddler in a buggy.

SpokeTooSoon · 03/04/2020 17:15

Abandoning bedtimes??? Are you mad? I need to be ALONE for several hours each evening or I would lose my mind.

mumme111 · 03/04/2020 17:17

I'm shouty snappy and tired lol every evening the kids go to bed we have a chat and I apologise and they understand luckily and they are the same snappy and shuty x

crispysausagerolls · 03/04/2020 17:18

@SpokeTooSoon

DS has gone from sleeping at 18.30 and waking up at 5, to sleeping at fucking 20.00 and waking up at 5. It’s literally the worse of both worlds. The summer hours are fucking me up the arse and I wish I could make him sleep earlier if he is going to wake up at silly o’clock anyway! Hurrah for early bedtimes!

soannya · 03/04/2020 17:18

Mine had chocolate cake for lunch today because who cares and why the F not. I thought yesterday was Friday. We’ve been at this for a month now (insert crying emoji here)

soannya · 03/04/2020 17:19

@crispysausagerolls 8pm bedtime!! That’s a DREAM in this house. Mine are up and down until 10pm every fucking night because hey, it’s xmas holidays right? Right? Arghhhhhhhhhhh

slimecentury · 03/04/2020 17:20

Me and yet again it's amplifying how much the child care falls to women too. My resentment levels are pretty high but what can I do?! Pass the gin! (That autocorrected to gun 😂)

soannya · 03/04/2020 17:20

@AgentCooper problem solved. Go for long solo walks leave screaming child with partner. Yay!

soannya · 03/04/2020 17:21

@slimecentury hahaha gun hahaha

thebear1 · 03/04/2020 17:21

DS12 is living on his xbox and ds6 is also having far to much screen time. I try to encourage other stuff but am struggling. Actually wish ds12 had more school work. Would help his bordem levels but there is no way I could get him to do extra if I set it.

soannya · 03/04/2020 17:22

Ps...I love this thread

soannya · 03/04/2020 17:22

PPS...never becoming a teacher. They are hero’s. Hero’s!!

beeny · 03/04/2020 17:23

This is making me feel so much better, the only good thing I am doing is making decent meals.

Marieo · 03/04/2020 17:25

Yes, just getting through the day is my level of success at the moment.

Anjelika · 03/04/2020 17:28

Wow this thread has made me feel a whole lot better! Mine are 13 and nearly 10 so can get on with the pitiful amount of work (in the 10 year olds case) the school has set. Today has been last day of term so have succumbed to films and abandoned all learning. Me & DH both working FT at home too. So pleased my kids aren't the only ones having too much screen time. I can't even think about this going on till September. We will all be insane.

Phifedean123 · 03/04/2020 17:28

There's been too much Thomas the tank, too many chocolate bribes and I've been having too many "it's 5pm somewhere" glasses of wine. Very much muddling through everyday now.

2mummybear · 03/04/2020 17:42

Yep, Easter eggs for lunch and far too much screen time. The only reason I'm not on the wine is because I'm pregnant!

Cherrychops100 · 03/04/2020 17:43

Following the thread as it's giving me a giggle

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 03/04/2020 17:43

Thank God it's not just me Grin

ArthurMorgan · 03/04/2020 17:45

I got out my old megadrive and called it a history lesson 😂

Stampy84 · 03/04/2020 17:47

Delighted to read this! My 18 month old is watching ‘baby bum’ on repeat.
Did go for a little walk with her but that’s it. Bed at 7.30 then film and wine for mummy.. my 14 year old? I’m not sure, she ventures down for food then goes back up to her pit. I’m not sure what she’s doing up there, I can’t summon the energy to care..

CookPassBabtridge · 03/04/2020 17:47

Xbox and ipads are my friend. I am an ace mum with their help Grin

LolaSmiles · 03/04/2020 17:48

I could probably tell you word for word the exact script for every episode of Bing
I hate bing.
Isn't every episode Bing whinging about something stupid whilst everyone runs around saying "awww don't be sad Bing"?
😠

We have had Twirlywoos and Mr Tumble here.
