Sainsburys delivery - neighbour getting them every week

How? Healthy family with two children. They have a mid week delivery pass, we have it too - for years! I never managed to find a slot! She said they have deliveries booked for the next 4 weeks! I admit I’m jealous, but I’d really like to know !!

@iklboo

@Bringringbring12 - it's the way they're asking the questions. Totally different to the usual ones. Like:

'Hi. I've seen you're a driving instructor. Are you working at the moment?'

Every other call before was 'Hi. I'm enquiring about driving lessons. How much do you charge'.

So many people seeing shadows and searching for reasons to be disappointed and or horrified in people.

This seems entirely innocent to me. Of course first question is going to be “are you working?” Given the situation. Not everyone knows who falls under key worker but everyone will know that some can work and some can’t.

iklboo · 03/04/2020 15:34

Nobody has ever opened the conversation with 'I've seen you're a driving instructor'. If you were after lessons you'd know he was. That would be the point of you ringing. You wouldn't check his job first.

Stet · 03/04/2020 15:34

Surely the 'Are you working at the moment?' question is entirely normal for the current situation? Given he's not, it seems like it was the right question to ask!

Vegansarefriends · 03/04/2020 15:35

I don’t have a pure heart like the majority on this thread. I am obsessing over getting a supermarket delivery and don’t have much of a life.

Bringringbring12 · 03/04/2020 15:35

* Nobody has ever opened the conversation with 'I've seen you're a driving instructor'. *

Nobody has ever been in lockdown before!

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 03/04/2020 15:37

Your neighbour has deliveries when you haven't, how? How do you think. She is booking slots for them. She might be spending more time trying, or she is just lucky and happen to be there when the slots are released.

what else is there to say? The more people get deliveries, the better!
Even a perfectly healthy young client can suddenly come up with symptoms, and it's all our interest that they get their food online instead of dragging themselves to the shop.

Look at what is happening, everyone is vulnerable these days. Why don't you ask your neighbour to add a couple of urgent things you need for you?

iklboo · 03/04/2020 15:41

How would lockdown make a difference to saying 'I've seen you're a driving instructor'? If it was someone genuinely asking about driving lessons they wouldn't word it like that. He's had at least four near identically worded phone calls this week.

Bsmirched · 03/04/2020 15:43

I cannot book slots at Sainsbury's on the app, but can online, then transfer back to the app to choose items as it's more user friendly.

coronawhatnow · 03/04/2020 15:50

I had a Sainsbury's delivery today, two kids, two parents. We are vulnerable because I have an underlying health condition, my son has an invisible disability (and is in receipt of DLA) and I am his carer.

Nobody seeing us would know any of this, they would judge as you have.

disorganisedsecretsquirrel · 03/04/2020 15:50

I'm not sure how the 'extremely vulnerable' register is working to be fair.
I received my text followed by a hard copy letter 10 days ago and registered. Day before yesterday I got another letter from dept communities urging me to register (I already have).. I receive almost daily texts from NHS Coronavirus service with motivational/useful updates .. but Sainsbury's do not 'recognise me' as vulnerable.. was getting quite concerned then half an hour ago some wonderful human being appeared with a MASSIVE govt food parcel.. that I hadn't asked for, but am nonetheless VERY grateful for.

I hope this service is getting to others 'on the list' .. it's a spectacular bit of logistical planning ..

PotholeParadise · 03/04/2020 15:50

I believe it about people ringing up driving instructors to play vigilante mystery shopper.

ReceptacleForTheRespectable · 03/04/2020 16:14

FFS. It is depressing how little is has taken for people to start sniping at and bitching about their neighbours, grassing them up for perceived infringements etc... MN is truly depressing right now.

Worry about your own life, not theirs.

Bringringbring12 · 03/04/2020 16:27

As I say, some people determined to see shadows and negativity

lookingforadvice8372829 · 03/04/2020 16:30

I have been shopping for groceries online for 7 years, I pay monthly for my pass and have a reoccurring slot every week at the same day and time. So every month my 4-5 shops are booked in automatically and reserved till 48hrs before then it gets released if I haven't paid. I always get it paid for and booked in properly. That's how I get my regular slots. I'm not being sneaky or underhand it's just my usual slot.

It's my normal routine to have a food delivery because it fits in with our life and I detest going to the supermarket for a food shop.

A lot of people on here seem to be up in arms about 'healthy' 'able bodied' people 'taking' all the delivery slots.

I'm not giving up my slot that I've had every week for years because, and for one it's unlikely to go to a person in genuine need of one due to the pandemic.

The onus is on the supermarkets to create more slots to meet the current demand and ensure new slots to go those in most need as first priority such as key workers, disabled, high risk etc.

BatShite · 03/04/2020 16:36

Neighbour is managing to get weekly slots too. But shes staying up til ridiculous hours when systems refresh and fighting probably thousands more to click the fastest. Bit dog eat dog really! I could do the same, and would if I really had no other way of feeding the family s I cannot really complain, though others in the street are having proper bitching sessions about her. Have pointed out they are free to try too, but apparently they 'don't know how/dont have internet'..which is a bit tough, when that seems the only option.

RuffleCrow · 03/04/2020 16:36

Sounds like she was organised. Ah well.

RU562341 · 03/04/2020 16:37

Since they are so hard to get, there must be a reason. Probably one she doesn't want to discuss.

SlothMama · 03/04/2020 16:45

Get over yourself OP.

SharonasCorona · 03/04/2020 16:45

Do some work @Sloth

Designjunkie · 03/04/2020 21:45

In normal times I shopped weekly with another well known supermarket. They sent me an email this week telling me that as a ‘valued shopper’ I would be reserved a weekly shop if I wanted it. We have no health problems, are not pensioners or key workers but we do spend an awful lot of money at this supermarket.

BooseysMom · 03/04/2020 22:05

...otherwise just be pleased for her - it’s one less family in the supermarket anyway

That's a very good point Smile

Rubyupbeat · 04/04/2020 01:19

I get them weekly, I am neither vulnerable nor eldery

Femail · 04/04/2020 08:06

I work in a store to and still get it delivered as I have done for years. The last thing I want to do is go shopping after my shifts as I want to get home to my family

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 04/04/2020 08:12

Vegans are friends, nobody has a life at the moment Grin

And nobody with a pure heart is on MN, we are all feeding off other people’s misery/outrage/jealousy and other negative emotions

We then pretend to be shocked Grin

Dozer · 04/04/2020 08:25

I have been trying online at all hours with all the supermarkets to get a delivery slot or click and collect for my parents, who live in another part of the UK and are both late 60s and “vulnerable”. One disabled, one had surgery for cancer three weeks ago, waiting for prognosis. They can’t carry v much and are currently at their local shop every other day getting small amounts, increasing their risks. Finding it upsetting. I would like them to contact Age Concern or similar, eg for help with shopping, but they won’t Sad
