For the first time in a while, DH and I decided to have a movie night. We saw Hereditary pop up in a few "worth watching" lists.

possible spoilers

Wow is that over 2 hours we will never get back! I was so excited at the start, ticked all the right boxes. It honestly had so much potential, but as time went on the movie still wasn't picking up the pace and I was wondering how they would wrap it up with not much time spare. The ending felt quite rushed, and left me feeling disappointed. I wasn't quite sure why the people had to naked towards the end aswell?!

Please share the worst movie you have endured, so I can double check when I next recommend a movie Grin

Have just remembered Young Adam, where Ewan McGregor and Tilda Swinton have sex so bleak and repulsive that I thought I might never want to have sex ever again.

iklboo · 04/04/2020 14:45

Grosse Point Blank is actually pretty good. The trailers don't give away too much of the premise.

@Barnowl25 - is that shark one Megalodon? If so, I agree it was laughable.

SettyBuarez · 04/04/2020 16:12

Kickboxer (1980s, JCVD). It was on a few weeks ago and DH and I could not stop watching. It was awful.
Kate and Leopold. Hugh Jackman and Meg Ryan, he was dressed like Mr Darcy, romance, comedy...what could possibly be bad about it? Absolutely everything. So disappointing. I wanted those 2 hours back.

geordiema77 · 04/04/2020 16:25

Timetrap. Came out a couple of years ago.

Normally DH and I love a decent time travel movie and I've even both him to read Shock Time Travellers Wife a few years ago off the back of watching it.

However, the Timetrap film might have been good in theory but in practice it was just ridiculous. Looked like it was made in the 1980s as well

0blio · 04/04/2020 16:29

Another note for Van Helsing, unrelieved tedium
The Lobster, just weird
And the worst of all - Sleepless in fucking Seattle

TheSandman · 04/04/2020 16:42

@SharonasCorona - you missed a wee treat with Grosse Point Blank. Not the greatest movie ever but an odd, interesting little film. One of my rules of thumb for choosing films: Anything with Alan Arkin in it has to be worth watching at least once.

@Egghead68 Waterworld had Jeanne Tripplehorn in it! Naked! What else do you need from a movie?

@Penners99 - I'm with you on Iron Sky. A pity because their earlier ^Star Trek Vs Babylon 5* mashup movie, while not being as funny as it thought it was, showed real promise.

Sarahlou63 · 04/04/2020 16:47

Truly terrible - Fight for Your Life. www.imdb.com/title/tt0076023/

SlipSlidin · 04/04/2020 16:49

Another vote for Hereditary, bloody awful.

Open House which was hyped to death on Netflix, it was nasty and extraordinarily shite, making no sense at all. Terrible terrible film.

RibenaMonsoon · 04/04/2020 16:49

Antichrist - was left both disturbed and confused after watching that. Love williem defoe though.
The village--piss poor but I do love the twist at the end.
The Witch - this had awards and people were calling it the scariest film of the year. It was about as scary as a cheese sandwich! So boring!

Barnowl25 · 04/04/2020 16:54

@iliboo not Megladon no but of that I'll truly terrible -.megladon made us laugh

Barnowl25 · 04/04/2020 16:59

@ikiboo @TheSandman it was called Malibu Shark Attack! Ridiculously bad

BeAnythingBeKind · 04/04/2020 17:09

The Platform on Netflix, saw the trailer and thought, wow, I have to watch that. One of the worst films I've ever watched, This is coming from someone who thought The Spice Girl film was good. 🙈

Upherefordancing · 04/04/2020 17:22

Mine has got to be Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It completely divided people as some I know love it.

I used to like Leonardo di Caprio but I found him almost unwatchable in this unfortunately.

Latteaday123 · 04/04/2020 17:27

OP I also was suckered into 'hereditary'. The ending was hilariously bad. Its like the script was never finished and the actors and stage directions were doing some kind of secondary school label drama 'improvisation' experiment. WORST. ENDING. EVER!!!

DrManhattan · 04/04/2020 17:33

Cats

MooseBreath · 04/04/2020 17:56

Ultraviolet
I will never get that time back, and I'm still bitter about it 14 years later.

MotherofPoodles · 04/04/2020 18:27

Death becomes her.

iklboo · 04/04/2020 18:31

I used to like Leonardo di Caprio but I found him almost unwatchable in this unfortunately.

I think that was the point. He was supposed to be a fairly crap, schlock TV, washed up actor with an ego much bigger than his talent.

tootiredtoconga · 04/04/2020 19:15

DH and I watched Rocketman last night. I thought it was quite possibly the worst film I've ever seen. I'm not a film snob, I like musicals and I don't mind a bit of cheese, but this was just so cringeworthy from start to finish. The first ten minutes and the last ten minutes were almost unbearable...so much schmaltz! It was like watching a 2 hour long John Lewis Christmas advert. Jamie Bell was the films one saving grace IMO but he didn't have a lot to work with as the dialogue was so rubbish and his character completely two dimensional- as was every single character apart from Elton's. Rob Stark hopelessly miscast and wearing so much make up- his painted on eyebrows were very distracting.

Duchessofblandings · 04/04/2020 19:35

Yes, it is incredibly cheesy. But I wonder how irritated Elton John is that Taron is a better singer?

Taddda · 04/04/2020 21:21

Rocketman was cringeworthy, although it was worse watching Elton John at all the awards shows...Blush

Kathsmum · 04/04/2020 21:53

MintChocAddict It’s a gcse lit text

Truly awful and we wonder why kids don’t like reading ( never recovered from Black beauty, the one with the rabbits...

Taddda · 04/04/2020 23:20

Currently watching 'Truth or Dare' on Netflix.....I feel an 'add' maybe coming....

Ivebeentohellanditscalledikea · 05/04/2020 08:40

Girl on the train is the only movie I've ever walked out of. I liked the book but just couldn't get into it. Plus why did they change it to being in America I will never know.

Mama Mia was awful.

I recently watched a film called the circle on Netflix it was so bad but I couldn't stop watching it.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 05/04/2020 09:14

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them - 2hrs and 13min if utter boredom to the point you want to cry

Into The Woods - oh my i was irritated and bored I couldn’t fall asleep it could have been so good

La La Land - again another film that could have been so good but what a load of tosh Hollywood LA celebrating how wonderful it is - well that soon all changed

The one with a bear and Leonardo having a fight
