Anyone else drinking more since lockdown?

I only properly realised when I looked at the recycling. I think we've had a drink every night this week. Prosecco on a weeknight? Yep.
Anyone else found this?

Good morning hope all is well and keeping. Safe and be really careful with your alcohol intake.

Thewomeninthemirror · 27/03/2020 09:46

Yes, lots more wine and cider.
I have a slight head ache this morning.

Figmentofmyimagination · 27/03/2020 09:47

No - I’ve only got 1.5 bottles of wine, 5 beers and an inch of gin with no tonic to last me so I’m rationing and concentrating on getting thinner.

I have to have a small glass of red wine during nightly session of breaking bad however as it is v tense.

More concerned about my waning stash of snickers. I am cutting them up in small slices in the fridge to make them last.

Whatthefunk · 27/03/2020 09:50

We are face timing a lot, and I find it impossible with a drink. So stilted and awkward. Hopefully it will get easier, or my liver will suffer Shock

GregoryGrainog · 27/03/2020 09:54

I drank on the first couple of evenings after the schools closed here in Ireland. It really didn't agree with me- I felt very anxious.

I'm not drinking for the foreseeable future- it's the best thing for my own mental health right now.

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 27/03/2020 09:56

Nope. And no snacking either. It's really big achievement for me tbh.
I keep reminding myself that this is not a holiday and I keep strict routine.
Wake up at certain time like usual. Work from x to y. Work out. Dinner. Clean up. Chill. Sleep.
Treating days as workdays and days off as you would normally have really helps the sanity

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 27/03/2020 10:05

We are having a glass each night. We are usually ferrying dc around & it’s so nice not to have to worry about drinking & driving. Also for the first time since Christmas we are together as a family for the foreseeable future. So a glass a night. No issue. We are leaving Monday night as a no alcohol night though.

Bringringbring12 · 27/03/2020 10:14

* My neighbours most definitely are and tbh I will think a lot less of them from now on that they're sitting at home on furlough (tax payers money) getting pissed in their garden from 4pm onwards when other people are still working, home schooling and running errands for vulnerable people in our road. Certainly seeing the true colours of some people that's for sure.*

Are you also seeing how judgemental you are?!

TheFaerieQueene · 27/03/2020 10:16

I’m having one v&t at night which is lovely. I’m going to have champagne tonight because it’s Friday and I’ve been feeling shit for two weeks now and it’s kill or cure. 🥳

EileenAlanna · 27/03/2020 10:25

I've none at home atm & not buying any from the shops. I've got 65 litres of home made wine on the go, though Wine Wine Wine

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 27/03/2020 10:29

No, because I know it lowers my immune system, particularly round the time of my period. Always has. I’ve been virtually teetotal for 3 years now anyway, although recently enjoyed a fancy gin or two every few weeks.

JaffaCakeGal · 27/03/2020 10:35

Pregnant so nope! Would probably have had a few more red wines than normal tbh if not! DP has been having a beer or 2 a night where we wouldn't usually drink at all.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 27/03/2020 10:36

Drinking wine every night and eating way more snacks than I would usually. I usually only drink on the weekend (and not every weekend) – the glass recycling tub is shaming me!

recycledbottle · 27/03/2020 12:12

No im drinking less. Im trying to be healthy and build up immunity as I think alot will get this over the next year and I want to give myself a fighting chance.

handslikecowstits · 27/03/2020 12:46

Absolutely, yes and the milk thistle tablets + other antioxidants I have to take have been going down like Smarties.

Madein1995 · 27/03/2020 12:54

Yep. I work in a job where Im in contact with offenders. During lockdown I'm calling my people each week and checking in on them, encouraging them to track their drinking. Because being stuck in, feelings of loneliness and boredom, feelings of anxiety and depression are all increased and increase risk of drinking more.

I know all this. I'm not stupid. Yet I still had to have a stern word with myself yesterday when I found myself considering having a beer while wfh in the garden. No calls, doing paperwork. I had to remind myself that because im working from a sofa or deckchair, that I am in fact still working and drinking while clocked on is not OK.
I'm drinking wine (only one glass) each evening. Its only 1 glass but it's one glass more than normal. I need to watch myself that it doesn't become habit. I struggled in the new year to stop Xmas drinking - still having half a bottle a night until a friend pointed it out to me. It's very easy to get into habits.
In all seriousness I think people's alcohol and substance intake will increase in these times. Of course they will. Even if you still have a job and can wfh you're still terrifies of dying, of how long this will last and the uncertainty. No wonder people turn to drink ccx

midnightstar66 · 27/03/2020 14:37

@LutherRalph1 our glass collections are cancelled. Streets will end up buried underneath bottles shortly 😆

StarsThatTwinkle · 27/03/2020 15:29

I wondered if some shops may have been asked to remove alcohol stock, rather than it being all sold out as the reason for empty shelves.... in order to reduce mass binge home drinking and the resulting arguments, accidents and resulting pressure on A&E that might cause.

Iloveplacentas · 27/03/2020 16:09

I don’t drink anymore but I wish I did! My supermarket is empty except for the booze aisle (predominantly Muslim area). It’s very tempting to go pick up a bottle just to pass the time. I know I’d regret it though

UnicornAndSparkles · 27/03/2020 21:39

Yep, lots more. With trying to wfh alongside my husband and parenting a 2yr old alongside that its extremely difficult not to reach for a glass of wine, or two, come 7pm. In all honesty I've had almost 2 bottles of wine this week and its only Friday. Must stop this madness.

MillyMoo1113 · 27/03/2020 21:40

Christ yes. Working from home drives me to it!

cardibach · 27/03/2020 22:15

I know alcohol has an effect on the immune system - but stress and anxiety do too. I’m drinking more and mean to get a bit of a grip but I’m not sure the first week of this is the best time.

Wauden · 27/03/2020 22:21
Wine
sixthtimelucky · 27/03/2020 22:30

I'm 80% alcohol tbh

Holdingmybreath · 27/03/2020 22:38

I found I was so ran down supplies to emergency gin and now get 2 bottles with the weekly shop. The only other shop I do is midweek for milk which so far I have got when buying petrol so no extra shopping.
