Anyone else drinking more since lockdown?

I only properly realised when I looked at the recycling. I think we've had a drink every night this week. Prosecco on a weeknight? Yep.
Anyone else found this?

I would if there was anything decent left on the shelves, most of it's been swiped where I am!

DariaMorgendorffer · 27/03/2020 00:46

Yes! I used to be a weekend-only drinker, and now I find myself pouring a glass most evenings Blush

AllesAusLiebe · 27/03/2020 02:15

Yes. DH and I usually have a beer one midweek night and a few on a Saturday, but it's been every night since Monday.

Days indoors with DS is enough to make anyone drink, trust me.

I'm justifying this because I've started running again . . . Blush

onanothertrain · 27/03/2020 05:57

I definitely am, I don't usually drink during the week and I'm starting much earlier as well. I need to rein it in though as I'm at risk of coming out of this with a drink problem and fat as fuck.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 27/03/2020 07:25

This is strangely comforting (especially on MN) and I know that sounds shit.
My teetotal friends are also reporting the increase in drinking.
My mum was up at the crack of dawn last week when she heard the pubs were closing, to do a mad dash to morrisons before the shelves were emptied Blush.
Priorities Hmm.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 27/03/2020 07:31

Well good to know one sector is thriving!

LakieLady · 27/03/2020 07:38

We're not drinking at all, for some reason.

In a normal week, we'd go to the pub after work at least once, and at least once over the weekend. Both pub visits would normally be followed by a drink at home.

We were SI for 12 days before the lockdown, and we didn't have a drink in all that time, and still haven't. I opened a bottle of wine to use some in a casserole yesterday, and we didn't even have a glass with dinner. We just didn't fancy it.

I wonder if we've accidentally gone teetotal?

APenquinIsCuttingthegrass · 27/03/2020 07:39

Sains are not restocking Shock

It’s the only pleasure at the moment

BiBiBirdie · 27/03/2020 07:39

Yeah.
It's the boredom.

pointythings · 27/03/2020 07:41

No, am sticking firmly to weekends only and no more than usual. But having lived with an alcoholic, I'm wary of alcohol anyway.

Ponoka7 · 27/03/2020 07:46

I'd given up alcohol for Lent and broke it because of this. I've been on my death bed with pneumonia ten years ago and i can remember thinking that I waa glad i'd partied a fair bit, when i was widowed, or I'd be even more pissed off at dying 'young'.

I've stopped now because i can't isolate and i don't want to lower my immune system.

Janaih · 27/03/2020 07:56

I've been drinking 3 glasses a night. I am supposed to be on holiday this week so telling myself it's ok!

midnightstar66 · 27/03/2020 07:57

Yes, I'm having to have words with myself so I don't pour a glass at lunch time - homeschooling is STRESSFUL!!!

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 27/03/2020 07:59

Nope, less.
Been too stressed to drink.

puppymouse · 27/03/2020 08:01

Man I wish I could be as abstemious over chocolate as I am over alcohol. Wouldn't mind if I never had a drink again. Think we have a bottle of champagne in our fridge from Christmas Blush

DingleberryRose · 27/03/2020 08:06

Hell no! One of the worst things you can do for your immune system is drink alcohol!!

OxanaVorontsova · 27/03/2020 08:07

There was someone (not sure who, a medic/scientist I think) talking about this on PM yesterday, basically saying that in the great scheme of things, if a glass or two of wine help you destress/get through the lockdown he wouldn't be judging anyone Wine

supercee · 27/03/2020 08:09

Yes. I had told myself I would have a break from it after taking it too far last week.

Picked up a lovely bottle which was on offer and restocked to drop off (no contact) for a friend who has been stuck inside tearing her hair out with the kids. Ended up getting one for myself after my long shift and drank the whole thing Confused I'm blaming her.

izzywizzygood · 27/03/2020 08:10

Absolutely not. Besides the shelves being stripped bare, why would I want to consume something that isn't all that good for the body? It's important to stay as healthy as possible in these times. Almost as important a responsibility as "stay home", right?

And for all those of you who can't cope very well mentally and who need it to get through the day, WHO has just advised (see The Independent article for example) that alcohol isn't at all useful as a means of coping.

YouBringLightInToADarkPlace · 27/03/2020 08:11

I can't because I'm pregnant BUT I'm sort of glad because I know that I would indeed be. Not drinking doesn't stop me wanting to. DH definitely is.

Doilooklikeatourist · 27/03/2020 08:12

Yep , comfort eating and drinking
It will all change on Monday

That’s the plan anyway 🍷

NotNegan · 27/03/2020 08:14

Yep! I'm actually limiting myself to just Friday nights now, as I was drinking (only one) every night, and I usually only drink at Christmas.

MadamePewter · 27/03/2020 08:18

Yes! Tempted by lunchtime drink too but haven’t succumbed yet. Though if they extend this lockdown I think I’ll just treat it like having to go camping and maintain a suitable level of mild sozzledness at all times.

MrsJBaptiste · 27/03/2020 08:20

We were last week and then decided we had to reign it in. We're now drinking Fri & Sat nights (although 'night' may well start at 5ish) and having a takeaway to at least distinguish the weekdays from the weekend.

drumandthebass · 27/03/2020 08:22

Yes we've taken to having a g&t everyday when Bojo does his press conference GinSmile
