AIBU to ask fellow Mumsnetters your favourite conspiracy theories?

Where it be about lizard people, 911 or the Government man-making Coronvirus to kill off the vulnerable, what conspiracy theory sends a chill up your spine?

Sorry if a little dark but I have to admit I love a good conspiracy theory and figured I wouldn't be the only one! Plus I need some bedtime reading...

@Midsommar - sorry I meant Keanu

I watch lots of Flat Earthers on Youtube. They are funny as so bad at it. Several have accidentally proved the globe and been embarrassed and disowned by the others.

The Nibiru ones used to be funny, but are mostly gone now. They were predicting the end of the world in 72 hours! Twice a week.

Just tried to google that and couldn’t find anything.

My theory is the Bin Laden isn’t dead. Is possibly working for the CIA!

I don't know about that, but by all accounts, he wasn't even in hiding so they must have known where he was all along. Very convenient timing, just when Obama was going for his second term at the White House.

Mittens030869 · 19/03/2020 11:23

9/11 still gets me. It just doesn't make sense.

My late uncle believed it was a CIA conspiracy and he worked for many years for the UN at a high level. I can't believe it was a CIA conspiracy but they must have known about it. I suspect they allowed it to happen knowing that it would turn US public opinion to support the war in the Gulf.

subcentro · 19/03/2020 11:30

The comedian Bill Hicks didn’t die but went underground and is now acting as a new character known as the far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones

Mockerswithnoknockers · 19/03/2020 11:31

I can't believe it was a CIA conspiracy but they must have known about it.

This has all been dealt with. They even made a TV drama about it. The CIA knew stuff. The FBI knew stuff. But they hated each other's guts and did not share. If they had, they would have been able to join the dots.

ChampagneCommunist · 19/03/2020 11:39

I don't believe David Kelly committed suicide

OlaEliza · 19/03/2020 11:53

I think there have been many, many, people that supposedly did, but didn't commit suicide, unfortunately.

WeCameToDance · 19/03/2020 11:57

Denver International Airport is by far my favourite. So much so that I don’t google it anymore because I end up down a rabbit hole that sucks away hours of my time.
I’m pretty sure it’s somebody high up with a weird sense of humour playing an elaborate joke but it does make you thing wtf.

CockCarousel · 19/03/2020 12:00

I love a conspiracy theory, which I think is a term used to discredit any theory that doesn't fit "normal" societal narratives. A bit like the derogatory term "hysterical woman" that's used to dismiss women's
views.

Simulation theory I find quite believable, there are so many possibilities to this. Neil Degrasse Tyson explains this well, (youtube). I've been alive since the 1970s, and what we take for granted now would have been science fiction back then.

Elon Musk has some interesting ideas about AI, namely that we're at the point of no return of merging with it in the future. According to him, he discussed this with Barack Obama during his presidency.

There's a really twisty one doing the rounds on Reddit - the coronavirus is a cover for hundreds of high profile arrests, Tom Hanks, Madonna, and the pope to name a few off the top of my head. The world will be told they died of the CV. a frightened society will become (even!) more sheeplike and malleable which will allow the new world order (Orwellian nightmare) to slip effortlessly into place.

I do actually think the last sentence could be a very real possibility. Look at all the #bekind brainwashing that started doing the rounds a while ago.

Blackberrythief · 19/03/2020 12:03

The Elisa Lam one freaked me out, especially when I started googling elevator game 😱 But she was bipolar and had stopped taking her medication so she was probably having a psychotic episode. Doesn't explain HOW she got into the water tank though.

bobstersmum · 19/03/2020 12:14

I am desperate to get some time to myself to Google these!

Mittens030869 · 19/03/2020 12:18

The one I really believe is Princess Diana was murdered

I did wonder about that and I read a lot about it. It's unlikely to have been the Royal Family, I think, as Diana's friends have all denied either that she was engaged to Dodi or that she was pregnant, so they didn't have a motive. )By all accounts, she was using Dodi to make the surgeon she really loved jealousy.).

I also think they would have been much better prepared whereas they were like rabbits in the headlights by contrast. I also don't think they would have taken the risk of William and Harry finding out eventually, with Will being the future King.

Of course, Al Fayed couldn't cope with the fact that it was Dodi and his Paris hotel, the Ritz, that were to blame and he didn't want to be sued. He focused his attention too much on the Royal Family, I think. However, they're not the only suspects. Diana was very active in a campaign for a worldwide ban on land mines and she had made some powerful enemies.

However, in my view, the problem with these theories is that she would very likely have survived if she'd been wearing a seatbelt. Also, surely they would have made sure that the security guard didn't survive the accident?

RuggerHug · 19/03/2020 12:18

More of a lighthearted one but my favourite is that the tv show Countdown only exists to communicate with spies. Something to do with the presenters being from a college that MI5 recruited from, it never changes channel or time of broadcast and gets a seemingly random combination of numbers and letters out for sleeper agents.

It was bonkers but believable, which added to the strangeness Grin

contentedsoul · 19/03/2020 12:20

Climate change has been topic for the past few years
Most are yeah, yeah and make a token gesture but still drive, go on foreign holidays etc etc
How would it ever be possible to simply press the stop button and everything came to a standstill literally, scientists could then maybe study global atmosphere to see if any changes occurred and if they were positive changes.
Ah well, that’s a pipe dream.

What do we think about this?

LuxLFC · 19/03/2020 12:28

I believe 9/11 was an inside job, that a few famous suicides are something else, Diana was murdered, people involved with Madeleine Mccann's disappearance are v powerful people & entertainers really do sell their souls...!

That Elvis didn't die and appeared as an extra in Home Alone 2. There's a video and everything.

The particle accelerator in CERN is opening up the gates of hell. Or collapsing alternate time lines to the one where "they" win.
Meanwhile the Clinton's are harvesting adenochrome from abducted children to give them everlasting life.

Spidey66 · 19/03/2020 12:39

Not really a conspiracy theory as such, but the one about Tom Cruise not really being Suri's dad, and both him and Katie Holmes being well aware....

  1. Tom Cruise was married twice before KH. He didn't have kids with Mimi Rogers, and the kids with Nicole Kidman were adopted. Nicole Kidman has since had a child/children with the man she married after. This suggests TC had fertility issues.
  2. KH got pregnant very shortly after getting together with TC.
  3. KH had just split with someone else before getting together with TC
  4. Just before giving birth, there was some pictures of KH which some did not feel looked like a heavily pregnant woman-more like the pregnancy suits actresses use to play a character who is pregnant.
  5. When officual pictures of a newborn Suri came out, she looked older than a newborn.
  6. 2, 3, 4, 5 together may suggest KH was pregnant by her ex before getting together with TC, but they decided to pass the baby off as their own. The fact Suri (supposedly) looked older than a newborn, together with the photos of a ''non pregnant'' pregnant KH implies she had in fact given birth 6 weeks or so prior to the date given to the media, in order to get the dates right.
  7. Apparently TC has little contact with Suri since the split.....this maybe because KH disapproves strongly of TCs scientology beliefs, or because Suri is not actually TCs child.

I'm not saying this is true, BTW. But the evidence is compelling.

dayswithaY · 19/03/2020 12:41

I love Denver airport, I'd love to go. Also love - Max Headroom TV takeover, Rendlesham forest (UFO), time slips, number stations (what the hell are they?), Marconi deaths, I'll stop now! Too many!

PickleASturgeon · 19/03/2020 12:46

Celebrities who aren't actually dead!

Michael Jackson 'played' Dave Dave

David Bowie played Jack Steven

Prince became his sister!

mumme111 · 19/03/2020 12:46

Love this! Lol x

dayswithaY · 19/03/2020 12:47

@Spidey66 I believe Mimi Rogers went on to have a child with new partner after her divorce from Tom. Lots of people think Suri looks like Katie's ex ( can't remember his name, he's an actor).

Equally fascinating - is Frank Sinatra the real father of Ronan Farrow? How could he share genes with Woody Allen - no way!

While we're on paternity - is Lord Porchester the real dad of Prince Andrew? ( can't do links).
