AIBU always say YABU!! When it comes to people being annoyed with schools.
I'm really cross so need to be told I'm being unreasonable so I stop being annoyed.

DS has a nasty throat infection, ended up in hospital and then 10 days or oral antibiotics 4 times a day.
I spoke to the head who said it he can hand it into the office and they will hand it back at the end of the day. He gets collected by a CM who has several other children so this worked.

They never handed it back to him. He missed several doses because of this.

They called me to say it's still at the office again today (it's 5pm by this point) they said they are busy (fair enough) and that he should be coming to get it.
That wasn't the discussion when I handed it in, they said they would give it to him.
It's the end of the course today so a bit late t tell me they changed their mind and expected him to collect - that never would have worked he never would have remembered (he's 8, I know some kids would be great at this but DS wouldn't).

He has multiple allergies.

His teacher just called at 17.28 to tell me they have a food tasting thing tomorrow and could I bring in a 'variety of foods' to match their ones so he's safe.

I'm doing dinner, getting the baby to bed, then tomorrow im up and out by 7.30, DH not home until tomorrow night so when do I do this?!

There was NO notice of this in any bloody news letter now way for me to prepare. And if I don't get this done he will feel excluded.

FFS.

Yes I'm being unreasonable they have a trillion kids and can't accommodate mine with his illness and allergies. I'm still angry though.

Should he be at school really?

TheNoiseHurts · 02/03/2020 17:43

Are you kidding?

OP posts:
picklebarrelfalls · 02/03/2020 17:43

Should he be at school really?

Not all illnesses that require medication are contagious.

TheNoiseHurts · 02/03/2020 17:44

Because of the throat infection or allergies?!

He hasn't been in full blown throat infection for the last 10 days Hmm

OP posts:
Therollockingrogue · 02/03/2020 17:44

Nope. You said he has a throat infection.
So keep him home?

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 02/03/2020 17:44

Yabu, the school are clearly failing at communication, that lies with them and not you. I’m sick of the whole we are busy etc... so is 90% of the work force and still be able to communicate effectively.

Therollockingrogue · 02/03/2020 17:44

“ ds has a nasty throat infection”

Largeyellowdaffodil · 02/03/2020 17:45

The childminder needs to go to the office at the end of the day to collect it. They cant give it to a child-it must be handed to an adult. It is the CM who has forgotten- not the school.

EvilEdna1 · 02/03/2020 17:45

I work in a school and we are not allowed to give medication to kids. We have to hand it to their adult.

picklebarrelfalls · 02/03/2020 17:45

Op, I'd be annoyed about the food too, my school have sent texts the night before cooking exercises requiring specific ingredients too! 🤯

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 02/03/2020 17:46

**Yanbu that should say

He has a throat infection and was being treated with antibiotics and was fit to be at school Confused

ittakes2 · 02/03/2020 17:46

They don’t usually agree to do medicines at school I used to have to go in. I am puzzled why your child minder is not going to collect it - yes don’t expect your son to but your child minder should just as if you were doing pick up. You are not being unreasonable about the foods though - inconsiderate of them to not give you more notice.

TheNoiseHurts · 02/03/2020 17:47

It's should have been had my iPhone likes to change my words to make me look thick and confuse people.

OP posts:
Thebookswereherfriends · 02/03/2020 17:47

I think after the first day when the medicine didn’t come home with him you should have made a different arrangement for it. Did the childminder know about the medicine?
The food is a very crap planning on the school’s part and I would be inclined to just send him in with whatever you can find at home.

Sirzy · 02/03/2020 17:48

Surely the childminder should be going to collect the medicine?

TheNoiseHurts · 02/03/2020 17:49

I work in a school and we are not allowed to give medication to kids

Then our kids don't go to the same school 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

As I said in my OP, it was discussed with the head and a plan was agreed.

We wouldn’t give medication to the child-the Childminder would need to go to the office and take/collect the medication.

The notice for the food tasting is rubbish though! What did you say to them on the phone?

ittakes2 · 02/03/2020 17:49

I also suspect you have asked the head who said it was ok but it’s the front office staff or teachers who are looking after the medicine not the head - I suspect the head had agreed to something not feasible

WorraLiberty · 02/03/2020 17:49

Surely it's your CM who should be picking it up?

Whatever happened to 'Keep all medicines out of the reach of children"? Confused

lyralalala · 02/03/2020 17:49

The childminder needs to go to the office at the end of the day to collect it. They cant give it to a child-it must be handed to an adult. It is the CM who has forgotten- not the school.

The CM hasn't forgotten. The school have forgotten to tell the OP that when they said "we'll give it back at the end of the day" they actually meant "We'll hand it to his adult if they come to the office and collect it"

fedup21 · 02/03/2020 17:50

I think after the first day when the medicine didn’t come home with him you should have made a different arrangement for it. Did the childminder know about the medicine?

Agree.

TheNoiseHurts · 02/03/2020 17:50

I would be inclined to just send him in with whatever you can find at home.

I know, that's not fair on him though really is it? Having allergies sucks, he already misses out a lot. I feel guilty that it will happen again.

OP posts:
HeartyGreenSalad · 02/03/2020 17:51

I bet the person who agreed to the medication exchange didn't consult the school office
What are they tasting? Can you just send some little snacks in that he can eat
Terrible planning by the teacher

MitziK · 02/03/2020 17:51

Who is going to be available at the point of the day where there are the most people wanting 'a quick word', hand things in, ask if their offspring's coat has been handed in/what the school are going to do about it, etc, to sprint off across the playground in pursuit of your son and put it in his hands?

By 'give it to him' they meant 'he can come and collect it at the end of the day'. That doesn't mean go and find him in a sea of small children, smaller children, bigger children, buggies and adults.

It's annoying you've only found out about the foods before 5.30pm, but that's in the context of the teacher being out of the house probably before 6.30am (if not earlier, like the majority of staff), working all day and then still working at 5.30, after which, they will have to go to the supermarket and get anything they need for the next day like most parents with babies and jobs have to do by putting the baby in a buggy or the trolley in a car seat and getting on with it

Yes, it's annoying. But it can't be helped.

ittakes2 · 02/03/2020 17:51

Our school would only hand medicine to a responsible adult not a child.
