esp.when it starts full on then gradually peters out until there are a few left clapping out of tune, i just want to crawl into a hole and never come out it's so cringy.
everyone to their own and as much as i love seeing people having fun, this is really..urgh.

😂 I find it cringey as well and I always wonder if the musician absolutely hates it, as I would!

YANBU. Even cringier (is that a word?) is people singing along to a person playing a piano.
I accept that I am probably being unreasonable but it makes my buttocks clench

Oh god no it’s absolutely the cringest thing ever. I want the crowd to open up and swallow me. I remember my mum and dad doing it at a pantomime or something and trying to get me to join in!

Oh god, audience participation clapping. My pet hate. When it starts, I say to who ever I'm with, I'm NOT clapping!!!

I went to a show with a group of work colleagues and looked down our row of seats in absolute horror. Each and everyone of them was clapping. I had no idea who I worked with!

It depends if they're doing it right - are they on the 1 and the 3 or the 2 and 4?

I hate it too. It makes me feel embarrassed or something. I find it hard to watch other people doing it.

I remember going along to a recording of a bbc1 show where the audience were whipped up into a frenzy with whooping, cheering and clapping. It was awful never been to another recording since. Also had to endure 2 takes of Ndubz because we weren't energetic enough. Horrific! 😩

I HATE clapping. All clapping. Imagine aliens arrived and saw us all flapping our hands against each other. Ridiculous

Can't stand it! It's one of the reason I can't watch strictly any more 😝

I kind of see what you mean but there's nothing worse at a kids performance, or when the actors are actively trying to get the audience to clap-and they just won't because of their own awkwardness! At such events I clap enthusiastically but not because I necessarily want to. Also true fact: clapping is contagious. I do like starting a clap 😂

i also cringe at dodgy wedding dances like the birdy song and macarana. so painfully urgh, words don't begin to explain.
