esp.when it starts full on then gradually peters out until there are a few left clapping out of tune, i just want to crawl into a hole and never come out it's so cringy.
everyone to their own and as much as i love seeing people having fun, this is really..urgh.

I loathe that. It's so bloody cringe!!!!

velocitygirl7 · 29/02/2020 07:41

I've found my people!!!
I was lucky enough to see Paul McCartney and flatly refused to join in with the cringeworthy clapping at that.
It's now my catchphrase at any gig, festival etc 'If I didn't clap for Macca, I'm clearly not clapping for anyone' Grin

See also people in the audience for things like Britain's Got Talent going ape because someone manages to sing in tune.

And I stopped going to concerts because of people standing up and dancing. I paid to see the performers, not other people's backsides jiggling around out of time.

In school assemblies we had to sing Lord of the Dance - and do a kind of formation clapping routine. Reader - I still have traumatic flashbacks.

I love a good clap and am often in the minority left clapping along at the end!

Syrinx89 · 29/02/2020 08:33

With the exception of 'We Will Rock You' by Queen, I detest clapping. Even worse when the audience clap on beat 1 and 3 instead of 2 and 4...or EVERY beat!!!

ThePlantsitter · 29/02/2020 08:41

DH hates this too! I thought it was just him being a grumpy bastard, turns out it's a thing. I love it, and I love doing it even more because DH hates it

Plsnomorepeppapig · 29/02/2020 08:46

I hate it too. Also really hate foot tapping. Especially when live bands start playing at a local pub I occasionally go to. Eugh I just look around at peoples legs and their feet start tapping away. It’s then time for me to depart.

I give you...people who clap when the plane lands.

iheartislesofwight · 29/02/2020 12:26

clapping because a plane lands, the pilot is doing their job, we should clap train and bus drivers then, a lot of people never thank a bus driver for getting them to their destination safely.

I went to a live taping of an episode of "Family Feuds" at the Burbank Studios, California in the late 70's*.

Don't know if they still do it but a man stood in front of the audience and kept holding up huge placards telling the audience to laugh, clap, whoop etc. during the show.

Gawd, it was dire! The Americans there loved it!🙄

Americans will clap anything. I remember having a meal with a bunch of American in California and one mentioned/admitted during the course of general conversation (a wee bit ostentatiously I thought) that he was an alcoholic and he hadn't had a drink for six months and everyone - apart from me - gave him a round of applause.
