esp.when it starts full on then gradually peters out until there are a few left clapping out of tune, i just want to crawl into a hole and never come out it's so cringy.
everyone to their own and as much as i love seeing people having fun, this is really..urgh.

Come to south of Spain where they clap to everything.Flamenco and reggaeton clapping is the norm. You may not like it but you end up joining in.

LolaSmiles · 27/02/2020 21:27

I hate it too.
Audience participation clapping almost never falls on the correct beats in the bar either, which gives the musician in me unreasonable levels of irritation.

I know it's not the point of the thread but can I also add audience participation carols if the conductor for the choir/band loses control and subconsciously starts slowing to the pace of the crowd into Room 101. Once in Royal David's City is a great carol, but not when you're 17 minutes in on verse 3.

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 27/02/2020 21:28

What a grumpy lot!
I loves a good clap-along, me 😊
Hate me ALL you like, I don't care.

MrsJoshNavidi · 27/02/2020 21:30

I have found my people! Let's all go to a show together and sit there and not clap along!

dustibooks · 27/02/2020 21:30

Drives me potty too, OP. Especially when so many people are incapable of clapping on the right beats. Utterly cringeworthy.

TiptopJ · 27/02/2020 21:32

Even worse than the clapping is the oooh-oooh, oooh-oooh. I'm looking at you Saturday night takeaway audience

CatteStreet · 27/02/2020 21:36

Germany is clapper central. Oh I hate it. Every bloody song at one of the many kindergarten/school things I have to go to involves clapping before the first verse is out.

PerfidiousAlbion · 27/02/2020 21:36

Cant abide it.

Mortifying to say the least.

I feel the same way about passengers clapping the Pilot’s landing. Just stop it! Like being with a group of five year olds!

LolaSmiles · 27/02/2020 21:37

What a grumpy lot!
Absolutely!

I've found my people on this thread though. There should be a thread dedicated to grumpy people to share their musical/concert/audience irritations.

Pavlova31 · 27/02/2020 21:39

Worse than clapping for me is people who just Have to stand up and scream and whoop at the top of their voices .At the end of Every.Single.Song.

FreezerBird · 27/02/2020 21:39

I don't object so much to clapping on one and three, or two and four, but when they clap on every frigging beat I get really quite stabby.

Emmelina · 27/02/2020 21:40

YANBU.
Nobody can hear the music once everybody gets going. And somebody is ALWAYS out of time and that makes me very twitchy.

TheSandman · 27/02/2020 21:40

I am not alone! Thank the gods!

I remember years ago once on ' Wogan', Stevie Wonder was a guest. After the chat he was taken to the piano and started to play one of his numbers. My Cherie Amour, or I Just Called to Say I Love You or something. A well know hit. The audience started clapping along - within three bars they were hopelessly out of step and the clapping just petered out. The look of undisguised incredulity on Stevie Wonder's face was wonderful.

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 27/02/2020 21:45

Oh thank the Lord I thought it was only me that hated this so have smiled and clapped along so as not to be weird. Maybe we are all weird inside and hate clapping but we will all do it forever more as we are too scared to admit it's awful and stop!

BreconBeBuggered · 27/02/2020 21:47

I hate it too. Fucking live shows where you'd be really lost in the music but for the frontman encouraging the clappy fuckers by clapping away with hands aloft to get them going. That is NOT what I went to see. Or hear. Shut the bloody fuck up. It tires out my arms too.

God, I'm a whiny sod. But you know I'm right.

Quicknamechange2020 · 27/02/2020 21:48

HATE IT

But as I get older I find myself joining in more because I feel so awkward sitting there being only one of a few not clapping.

Tut.

Bezalelle · 27/02/2020 21:52

I hate when people move to music as if they're really "into" it. Makes me shudder with horror, especially if they have their eyes closed.

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/02/2020 21:55

I went to see Aly and Phil and I think I'd have been run out of there by pensioners if I didn't clap along. So I did, heartily. DH did not.

DesLynamsMoustache · 27/02/2020 21:57

What I do hate though is when you go to a concert and then the singer stops singing and points the mic to the crowd so they can sing a verse. Look, pal, I didn't spent £50 on a ticket to hear 5000 tuneless drunks.

Fruityb · 27/02/2020 22:00

Nope I bloody hate it!!

MillicentMartha · 27/02/2020 22:03

It’s almost universally terrible unless it’s to Radio Ga Ga!

NC4Now · 27/02/2020 22:05

Worse than that is when a DJ sings over the end of a record on the radio. Steve Wright, I’m looking at you

AlexaAmbidextra · 27/02/2020 22:11

Everyone in the audience was over 60 and everyone was clapping along enthusiastically.

I’m over 60. I don’t clap along.

FlamingoAndJohn · 27/02/2020 22:16

I fucking hate a clap-along audience.
What is fun though is when they start but the beat changes or something like that and they can’t keep up.

3rdNamechange · 27/02/2020 22:30

Also, sometimes on TV (maybe a quiz show) there's a clip of music and the contestants tap their feet or 'dance' along 🤢
