I just can't stop thinking about it. Has really knocked me sideways. Been sort of just floating around feeling weird about it all weekend.

Anyone else??

You're so desperate for it to be true gypsywater, like all conspiracy theorists, but you've no evidence

A beard needs to be someone relatively unobtrusive and malleable, maybe someone who needs the money or works for the PA. None of that applies to CF, a highly visible celeb and certainly not malleable.

Sagradafamiliar · 20/02/2020 22:44

If they needed a beard for Harry Styles, then why on earth not choose one who wouldn't seem both professionally inappropriate and predatory, and pick someone his own age?!

wedding33 · 20/02/2020 23:06

At the time there was quite a lot of positive publicity about the 'cougar' mantle. Finally the moment where women in the public eye could have relationships with younger men in the way that older men always had with younger women.
The management team just jumped on that.

If it were fake, would she have chosen to double down by writing about it in her autobiography? Or would HS have approved anyway?
I guess PR do have a clue after all...
After their brief romance, Caroline was offered €1.35 million to be the face of a cougar website.
2011 - timing might have fitted with the 'trend', a couple of years out
2007 cougar club film
2009 cougar reality show and cougar town sitcom

HS is certainly playing up to genderqueer fashion at the moment - I assume because that is now on trend/acceptable.

Womenwotlunch · 21/02/2020 02:41

I don’t know if Harry was in a relationship with CF. However, it is possible that this was a PR relationship. Harry supposedly had a relationship with Kendall Jenner too
There are many fake PR relationships in show business

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/02/2020 07:10

Even if the relationship with HS was some strange PR exercise, CF still participated in it. She was responsible for the story being out there, referred to the relationship in interviews, spoke about it in her autobiography. She allowed that story about her, and the connotations around it, to be in the public eye. She should have realised that it would spark controversy and that people would judge her on it.

I don't see how having done that, either had the relationship or agreed to the fake relationship with a 17 year old, that you can the complain about people judging you for having a relationship with a 17 year old when you are 31?

What bullshit. You mean like Amal Clooney, Irina Shayk, Taylor Swift, Priyanka Chopra, Kendall Jenner. The list goes on. A celebrity isn't going to choose someone who works for their PA as their beard. They choose others in the public eye who know how the game works.

Chocolatedaim · 21/02/2020 08:12

This concept of a beard is new to me (thanks mumsnet!) and very bizarre.
What does the female party get out of this? Cash?

Wallowinginfilth · 21/02/2020 08:44

Chocolatedaim allegedly in the case of celebrities more attention for their latest film/album/tv show etc. Or some are rumoured to be gay as well. For none celebrities, money and a comfortable life. God knows why they agree to have kids though.

Wallowinginfilth · 21/02/2020 08:46

Though, honestly I think most boarding rumours are made up. Especially in 2020.

AccioCats · 21/02/2020 09:13

If CF was a beard then it was a pretty shit decision by both her and HS’s management teams. She was called a ‘peado’ and received death threats and I can’t see how having a relationship with a woman 13 years older can have done a lot for his female fan base....

Besides they were only together for a very short time - 2 months I recall from about Nov to January - most beards are in it for the long haul otherwise what’s the point?

I also think the words from HS in the guardian this week would be a very strange way to speak if it had not been a genuine (albeit very short lived) relationship. There would be absolutely no reason for HS to be speaking like that now.

But hey, a couple of over excited women on MN who probably worked in lowly media jobs a decade or more ago obviously think they’re in possession of some mind blowing ‘facts’ Hmm

I think people are just okay with young, pretty women beating up their male partners now. Remember that doctor who stabbed her boyfriend when she was drunk and the judge let her off as she's clever or something?

HeIenaDove · 21/02/2020 14:30

Remember that doctor who stabbed her boyfriend when she was drunk and the judge let her off as she's clever or something

That was about class not gender, i very much doubt she would have been let off had she come from a council estate and/or was unemployed or in a low income job.

AuntieCedent · 21/02/2020 14:35

I dont think a middle/upper classed man would get off with that. Class may be a factor in reinforcing the "innocence" of the abusers in these cases, as does their race, but the fact they are female is what permits the minimization in these cases.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/02/2020 15:24

Why are people so quick to minimise or excuse what she's alleged to have done ? She was a beard, she was mentally ill, she might have been drunk or provoked and on and on.

She might have been a million and one things but as it stands she did, by her own admission, have a relationship with a 17 year old and she was charged and awaiting trial for domestic assault.

Bool · 21/02/2020 16:44

@Hearhoovesthinkzebras because we all now have to ‘be kind’.

I cannot think of anything more ‘unkind’ than whacking your boyfriend over the head with a lamp so he bleeds. But hey ho. The irony is lost on those who are unthinking.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 21/02/2020 16:59

@Bool spot on.

SouthWestmom · 21/02/2020 17:12

I've just read an article in heat which references her 13 Feb photos.

It isn't terrible or particularly rude. It's a bit gossipy - Is Caroline sending a secret message to Lewis' but it doesn't really focus on the DA case at all, just discusses the pair of them and social media lack of contact.

marthadearr · 21/02/2020 17:34

I am/was a massive fan of hers. LOVED love island. It’s sad. Lessons to be learnt about the media from this.

Gre8scott · 21/02/2020 17:37

I think the reason people are so shocked is become although everyone is aware people commit suicide caroline flack case has shone a light all over it .someone you are aware of has killed themselves so really it's like finding out a workmates or a person that lives near did it. Youd be shocked and saddened by that.
That's how I'm thinking on it. Its shocking that someone anyone would see that has the answer and actually 1000 of people do and really that's what's shocking. I'm not surprised you are feeling weird. I am too. All the you didnt know her bulldhit doesn't matter. It's the actual fact someone killed themselves. A girl I worked with killed herself it was the weirdest feeling ever. I didnt really know or like her that much but the fact I'd done a shift with her on the thursday and received an email on Saturday do say shed taken her know life reminds one of the weirdest days of my life.

FlamingFreezing · 21/02/2020 17:38

I find it disgusting that the CPS and police are being vilified for prosecuting someone who committed an alleged offence because she was a celebrity. If Joanne Bloggs from Hull had committed the same alleged offence, it was posted over SM and she threatened to commit suicide unless the charges were dropped, then carried through, would there have been the same outcry?

I also get frustrated that MH is used as a ‘get out of jail free card’. I find it hard to believe she was so ‘unwell’ but still managed to hold down a high profile job and social life. Where were her family if she was so unwell? She had more help and support available to her than most people in much worse situations.

SHE chose to end her life. She chose to be a celebrity in the public eye. She chose to allegedly drink and take drugs. She chose to commit the alleged offence. Obviously her ego couldn’t cope with her fall from grace and potential loss of her celebrity and high income. Not much pity here. People die in horrific circumstances every day. A 40 year old, intelligent, high functioning woman can take personal responsibility for herself.
