To think Labour are not a party for women/girls

Long-Bailey, Rayner and Nandy have all made public their support of a statement that demands the expulsion from the party of anyone who doesn’t agree with basically replacing current sex based rights/laws/social norms with gender/identity based rights - so if you think women are female, that female sports and prisons etc should be for females etc -then you are a transphobic bigot and should be thrown out of the party.

I don't want my sport mad daughter being told she's in the wrong body or being coerced into competing or changing with men. So I'll expel myself and take my vote with me, as will DH.

They can shove this witch hunt up their arse.

timetest · 12/02/2020 20:10

I’m a lifelong labour voter and former party member. I spoilt my ballot paper last time round. I can’t support them when they promote this nonsense. It’s no longer a party that promotes the interests of women.

Sexnotgender · 12/02/2020 20:11

It’s beyond insanity.

hazeyjane · 12/02/2020 20:15

The shutting down of any discussion and dismissing any concerns as transphobic is fucking depressing. I have been a Labour supporter all my life and a Labour party member for years. Until now.

HollowTalk · 12/02/2020 20:17

Totally agree. Does anyone know what Emily Thornberry has to say about it?

Peregrina · 12/02/2020 20:20

The trouble is that nearly all the parties have jumped on the bandwagon. We women fought hard for our rights.

Harpingon · 12/02/2020 20:27

In the labour party there are no women, just men and not men.... So the woman's vote has to go elsewhere!

ClubfootMaestro · 12/02/2020 20:31

I could forgive them supporting self ID and saying TWAW even though I don’t agree - what I can’t forgive is the shutting down of dissent and labelling those who disagree as bigots and transphobic. It’s authoritarian, anti-democratic and borderline sinister.

Bartlet · 12/02/2020 20:31

It’s so sad. They become more and more like a student club than a credible political party. Why do they allow themselves obsess on virtual signalling/ identity politics when there are real issues to debate. Do they never want to be in power?

VortexofBloggery · 12/02/2020 20:33

I'm a lifelong Labour/Labor party voter too. I could not vote for a party that doesn't know what a woman is. It was so clear to me they've lost the goddamned plot over many things, including "gender ideology" it's actually quite sad. This is a new level of bonkers though; they say they're going to "learn lessons of the last election" yet here they are with more claptrap. Sex is real. Quite why the Labour hopefuls would come to mumsnet of all places to insult women with this madness is beyond me. #expelme

Grafittiqueen · 12/02/2020 20:33

YANBU. I will not vote for them if they persist with this insanity.

HavelockVetinari · 12/02/2020 20:34

I'll be voting for Keir Starmer in the leadership election, and if any of the female-denying fuckwits win I'll terminate my membership. There ARE legitimate arena where sex matters more than gender identity, and humans are sexually dimorphic no matter how many folk bleat "but intersex". One sex produces large gametes, the other produces small gametes. There are some people with medical conditions that mean they don't produce either, but that doesn't make them a third sex as they can't reproduce.

TabbyStar · 12/02/2020 20:37

YANBU but then lots of Labour Party members (mainly men) are real bullies anyway, blaming other parties (Lib Dems and the Greens) for them losing the election, particularly where there were young women candidates from the other parties. I would never vote for them anyway on this basis let alone their nonsense about transphobia.

MrsTerryPratchett · 12/02/2020 20:39

Labour, the LibDems and the Greens. Oh and the 'Women's' party

The Tories have had two female Prime Ministers. FFS. I know they're the enemy but everyone else is making it very hard.

EuroMillionsWinner · 12/02/2020 20:39

YANBU!

Peregrina · 12/02/2020 20:40

Emily Thornberry was asked about this, and about women's prisons. So she talked about how a trans man wouldn't be able to cope in a man's prison, but didn't say a word about how women prisoners would be affected. It was disappointing, to say the least.

redexpat · 12/02/2020 20:41

The shutting down of any discussion and dismissing any concerns as transphobic is fucking depressing. Its Brexit 2. I used to shout racist! Rah! whenever anyone expressed a concern about immigration, but brexit really taught me a lesson about LISTENING to the other side. Id have thought that someone in the labour party might have had the same thought. Jess Phillips has said similar on other topics but sadly not this one.

Bezalelle · 12/02/2020 20:43

There is a similarly ridiculous 'list' for 'tackling' anti-Semitism.

As a gender critical Jew, the Labour party should be my home. Sadly it isn't.

Peregrina · 12/02/2020 20:45

YANBU but then lots of Labour Party members (mainly men) are real bullies anyway,

It's always put me off Labour, even though I like many of their policies.

sessell · 12/02/2020 20:48

Completely agree @clubfootmaestro The manifesto policy was bad, but vague. This is an authoritarian witch-hunt. I am a member. Will be voting for Kier definitely now. His stance so far seems sensible, focusing on human rights and need for debate. So disappointing that all the female candidates are subservient and worse. Have been quietly following this debate for a long time. This is absolutely my peak trans moment.

MartiniDry · 12/02/2020 20:50

OP, you're the most reasonable person imaginable.
The Labour Party is shooting itself in the foot by shitting on women and girls. Way to go, Labour. Multitasking! #ExpelMe

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 12/02/2020 20:51

Disappointed in Nandy not surprised but the other two both are Corbyn puppets and will take on his views

I’m voting for Starmer.

I have this argument so often with men at work they just don’t get the importance of women/girls having spaces where only females are allowed and how safe that makes us feel

Alsohuman · 12/02/2020 20:55

I will be voting for Keir Starmer in the leadership election, and if any of the female-denying fuckwits win I'll terminate my membership

Same here. Sanity needs to return.

Binterested · 12/02/2020 20:57

So shocking. We count for nothing. Our rights can be ripped up and thrown away in an instant. We can’t name ourselves, speak publicly on this topic, choose to be among other women only while undressed or undergoing intimate medical treatment. We can’t talk about women’s periods or women’s health issues. We must submit to men’s crimes being recorded in our name. We must allow women prisoners, girl guides and hospital patients to sleep next to men. We must give up prizes for women and sports for women.

And now according to the Labour Party we must give up being members of the Labour Party.

Good to know.
