To think Labour are not a party for women/girls

Long-Bailey, Rayner and Nandy have all made public their support of a statement that demands the expulsion from the party of anyone who doesn’t agree with basically replacing current sex based rights/laws/social norms with gender/identity based rights - so if you think women are female, that female sports and prisons etc should be for females etc -then you are a transphobic bigot and should be thrown out of the party.

I agree to the just get rid of the Conservatives.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/02/2020 09:29

'I really think we've got bigger things to worry about. Brexshit, climate crisis,'

And you think electing a party that is willing to purge people for believing in science is a good idea at this point in history?

Labour have shown themselves to be batshit on this and I have a horrible feeling that being well meaning but batshit is even more dangerous than being evil.

Lordfrontpaw · 14/02/2020 09:32

Labour have shown themselves to be shortsighted, thick and easily played. They make these changes and you can’t close the stable door after the horse has bolted. Then what will they demand?

I remember someone on the radio ages ago talking about terrorists and a particular peace process. ‘They don’t just put down their weapons and go back to living a peaceful life - they keep going’.

bingbangbing · 14/02/2020 09:34

@redsheep

Agreed. It's maddness

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 14/02/2020 09:42

I don't want my sport mad daughter being told she's in the wrong body

Who do you think is going to tell your daughter she's in the wrong body? Why would they do that? This makes no sense.

Lordfrontpaw · 14/02/2020 09:46

Because gender is the new sex or didn’t you get the memo? Boys liking pink and dolls are being told that they have girl brains.

There is a case in the US where 3 students are protesting trans running in the girls races (and winning scholarships etc). They are pushing uphill and - don’t read it if you have high blood pressure - it’s in the Guardian today (NB alters shocker - they sue the word c*s and and are not on the side of the female bodied runners).

TheRealMcKenna · 14/02/2020 09:48

I don’t. A party that wants to govern the country has to show that it’s willing to act in the best interests of the country and its citizens. The current Labour Party are showing that they want to govern in the interests of a few very vocal pressure groups.

This was pretty obvious during the December election campaign. Nothing’s changed. The ‘period of reflection’ has been utterly wasted.

I wouldn’t trust them to run the country.

Kit19 · 14/02/2020 09:50

Who would tell children they might be born in the wrong body? Possibly when children are being told there could be more than 100 genders.

It’s very easy to dismiss this until it happens to one of your relatives. Suddenly all you’re hearing is the standard dogmatic crap peddled by the well-known lobby group. Next you’re being told all the benefits of taking cross sex hormones and how perfect life is going to be as the opposite gender as if we’re all just Lego people who can swap out inconvenient pieces. Question any of this and you are a bigot and a transphobe.

It happens. It is currently happening to me.

andyoldlabour · 14/02/2020 09:56

Lordfrontpaw,

Kent women's cricket player of the year award in 2019, went to Maxine Blythin. Do you have a link to the Guardian story, I would like to read that - and then probably get extremely angry about the whole, absurd situation.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/02/2020 09:57

I would actually vote Conservative after this, if I thought it was the best chance of keeping these vicious lunatics a long way from power (which it probably will be). A party with no connection to reality which is willing to punish people for stating the truth is just so, so dangerous.
In the last election I protest voted for the least bonkers independent because I couldn't bring myself to vote for the Tories, but this has pushed me to thinking Labour are so dangerous they should be stopped at all costs.
Not that it will be difficult.

BanginChoons · 14/02/2020 10:01

I am glad that the Labour party are supporting the rights of trans people. People who are transgender are a marginalised group who are subjected to hate and discrimination living their everyday lives, limited access to services and support, and are at risk of harm.

Acceptance of people's differences should be mainstream.

andyoldlabour · 14/02/2020 10:02

A Finnish couple has lost custody of their 15-year-old daughter after they refused to allow her to undergo hormone therapy to “correct her gender”.

voiceofeurope.com/2019/12/finnish-parents-lose-custody-of-child-for-refusing-sex-change-treatment/

But in a shocking interview, the woman, who we shall call Carol, tells how:

"She was advised to keep parents and other teachers in the dark if a pupil claimed to be transgender;"

BanginChoons

Do you think, that a young teen male, who simply ID's as a girl, should be allowed unfettered access to girl's toilets and changing rooms, thus putting the girls in possible danger and most probable unease, embarrasment and discomfort.
How can it be right for the wishes of a tiny minority to be more important than the overwwhelming majority?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 14/02/2020 10:07

How will I be forcibly expelled? It is possible to have views and not openly discuss them on SM. Which I'm not on

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but if you aren't going to air your views, how is the change going to happen?
And if you do air your views, you get expelled, is what I mean.

And pushing me into being a misogyny supporter? Really? Is there no nuance in the feminist movement at all? I'm either with them and against you

Nobody is saying if you don't support/be a member of Labour you have to support/be a member of the Conservatives. You don't have to like any of them! Lots of people find them all a shower of craven fools. I can't even stand the bloody Women's Equality (hah!) Party!

Lordfrontpaw · 14/02/2020 10:09

@ andyoldlabour - yes I saw that!

BanginChoons · 14/02/2020 10:09

@andyoldlabour, no, I think neutral individual toilet and changing cubicles should become the norm.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 14/02/2020 10:10

I really think we've got bigger things to worry about. Brexshit, climate crisis, impending doom, being governed by a cartel of evil bastards. I don't give a fuck what gender someone is or wants to be, or what we call them, we just need rid of the conservatives.

That whistling sound is the point going flying right over your head.
Your hatred for a political party is blinding you to the biggest issue facing women.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 14/02/2020 10:12

Acceptance of people's differences should be mainstream.

As long as those people aren't women trying to assert their enshrined-in-law and biology sex-based rights, yeah?

BanginChoons · 14/02/2020 10:15

@buzzshitbagbobbly, what about female to male trans people? Should they have no rights at all?

Lordfrontpaw · 14/02/2020 10:15

Ok - Kate upgrade - found guilty. What have they done? Oi Labour - see what you are facilitating?

CurbsideProphet · 14/02/2020 10:15

@BanginChoons and who will force businesses, organisations, and essentially anywhere with toilet or changing facilities to fund and create all of the required individual unisex cubicles?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 14/02/2020 10:20

Sorry Bangin - I don't understand what your "gotcha" is trying to get at. You'll have to explain how you were trying to catch me out, sorry.

BanginChoons · 14/02/2020 10:21

@curbsideprophet, change can happen successfully on a large scale if well supported. Look at the smoking ban for example.

I think instead of this widespread intolerance of trans people, who aren't going away, we should look at solutions to the potential problems voiced, such as female safe spaces. And regarding sports, we could introduce a 3rd and 4th category. Not just shower hatred on a marginalised group who generally may already have hate for themselves to last a lifetime.

Peregrina · 14/02/2020 10:24

Next you’re being told all the benefits of taking cross sex hormones and how perfect life is going to be as the opposite gender as if we’re all just Lego people who can swap out inconvenient pieces.

This puts me in mind of the former communist E European athletes who were stuffed full of hormones. No, they didn't go back to being delicate little ladies afterwards - some were completely wrecked physically.
