Does anyone else really hate cannabis?

Greengang321 · 08/02/2020 00:39

I feel like it’s a really unpopular view at the moment with the age old come back that it’s natural and better than drinking.

But i just really hate it. I hate the smell, I’m not a fan of hanging around people who are high, I really hate the idea of people smoking it in and around my property.

When I met my partner he didn’t smoke it but now he does. Aibu for hating him smoking it?

Eactly right there, NotProud. Open a bottle of Grolsch (cant be arsed to look up spelling) holding it a bit away from you. That sickly sweet smell you get is nearly identical to weed.

Which one ? Strawberry cough, or Pineapple Express ? Maybe Blueberry cheese ? Northern Haze ? Cinderella 99 ?

If you thought craft beers had cornered the market in silly names, you should visit a dispensary in Colorado Grin Or a seedbank.

NotProudOfMyself · 09/02/2020 17:48

OK, then it stinks and it's horrid.. But why are we smelling it everywhere?

If it's being smoked in the open - there's your answer. I guess it can carry.

If it's like a drive I took a few months ago down a major A road in the UK, it's because there must be a few places growing it without a carbon filter. Which suggests a blend of stupidity and complacency that I'd find too much.

Haz1516 · 09/02/2020 17:58

As a teenager, I tried it a few times but am not really a fan of smoking anything and am extremely glad I never got into it. I know some people who smoke it regularly and they just become total vegetables when they have it; it's so antisocial. I think it is far too often minimised by people and overly defended, when it's effects on mental health can be worrying and it can also be a dangerous gateway. I also hate the smell, and hate smelling it when out and about. As a disclaimer, I also very rarely drink also, and don't understand people who drink several times a week.

Patroclus · 09/02/2020 18:03

Smelling it everywhere through a combination of increased use, people more casual about public use and a boom in home growing, which can really stink out a neighbourhood

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 09/02/2020 18:08

The smell is so omnipresent locally that in the last month, I've got used to it.

Bluewater1 · 09/02/2020 18:10

I detest it with a passion. I had a close relative die from a Class A overdose. He started on cannabis. I can't see it in any way other than a gateway drug....

Somebodystired · 09/02/2020 18:14

I detest it. I have never (knowingly) spent time with anyone who was high. When I was a teenager, the friends I socialised with were a couple of years older than me and all smoked it but wouldnt when I was around because they didn't want me doing it.

I know my best friend and his wife smoke it occasionally, much less now they are parents, but again they never have in my company.

I just think it stinks, it's horrible!

MerryDeath · 09/02/2020 18:18

i hate how dull people who smoke cannabis are. naval gazing bores.

Patroclus · 09/02/2020 18:27

Yeah ive turned up for dos, realised everybody in the room was stoned (sitting in silence) and just left straight away.

Angel2702 · 09/02/2020 18:35

I hate it and now it is seen as socially acceptable you cannot escape it. We are woken in the morning to the smell of it, our house reeks, the kids can smell it on their clothes, we can’t ever enjoy our garden in the summer as we are surrounded by the smell.

PollyEsterblouse · 09/02/2020 18:43

I don't use it, and don't want to.

But if I'm going through my local park and there's a huddle of men ahead, I feel nervous if they're drunk, and perfectly safe if they're high.

Urkiddingright · 09/02/2020 18:52

YANBU, I have witnessed it ruin far too many lives to ever consider it a good thing.

mathanxiety · 09/02/2020 18:52

It's like the smell of skunk spray, *NotProudOfMys, though it depends on the variety. Have you ever smelled burning twine or hemp rope?

mathanxiety · 09/02/2020 18:55

"Skunk" comes from the strength of the smell, not the actual scent

No, it actually smells like skunk spray.
When it first became somehow ok to go out and about smelling of it, I honestly believed my area had been overrun by skunks.

OverByYer · 09/02/2020 18:57

I’m a Police Officer.
Personally I couldn’t care less if people smoke it.
However it does aggravate some people’s mental health.
The smell of it however makes me feel sick, it’s so sickly. When we have a big haul at the nick I can’t bear it. The smell pervades through the whole building, gives me a headache.
I wish it was legal then I wouldn’t have to bother with it anymore.

TheUser420 · 09/02/2020 19:01

In this day and age there is no excuse for not using a carbon filter if you are home growing.

georgialondon · 09/02/2020 19:03

I do. As an ex-medic I've seen what it can do.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 09/02/2020 19:05

Yanbu. I don't like it, as a drug it doesn't suit me (I'm one of those rare types who get more agitated after smoking it rather than more relaxed).

What I hate, loathe and despise about it is the number of deaths of young people barely out of childhood associated with the selling of this drug! My God it is a national emergency.

The smell is rank too.

Greenpop21 · 09/02/2020 19:08

Obviously yanbu. I don’t know anyone that smokes it luckily. Bad enough smelling it when I’m walking my dog.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 09/02/2020 19:10

"It does aggravate some people's mental health".

Yes, I cottoned on to this when I was in my late 20s, having spent 10 years at least smoking it fairly regularly and spending my whole adult life with people who also used. I don't know how but I came to see that it made me feel bad rather than good so stopped using. This was in the 1980s. I am good friends with people of my age now (late 50s) who still smoke it with no problems.

It is dodgy because it affects different people different ways. No one can claim it is entirely benign.

Greenpop21 · 09/02/2020 19:10

It’s bizarre really how cigarette smoke is taboo but weed is ok!

mencken · 10/02/2020 11:57

not for most of us, a burning turd is a burning turd, legal or not. One type supports crime and gives you psychosis, the other one is just cancer.

Bibijayne · 10/02/2020 12:02

Not a fan of the smell. Worse when it's being grown than smoked too.

User12879923378 · 10/02/2020 12:05

Not a fan. Grew up surrounded by ageing hippies who smoked it constantly and was baffled when my schoolfriends embraced it. But I don't think it's really any worse than any other mind-altering substance: if you're around people who are doing it and you're not, you're going to be bored at best and irritated at worst.
