Does anyone else really hate cannabis?

Greengang321 · 08/02/2020 00:39

I feel like it’s a really unpopular view at the moment with the age old come back that it’s natural and better than drinking.

But i just really hate it. I hate the smell, I’m not a fan of hanging around people who are high, I really hate the idea of people smoking it in and around my property.

When I met my partner he didn’t smoke it but now he does. Aibu for hating him smoking it?

My goodness, it stinks. The neighbor's teenagers three doors down sometimes smoke it in the back garden and when I open my second floor window facing the opposite direction I can bloody well smell it.

It's also addictive and dangerous, at least to some people. And I knooow alcohol can be that too, but that doesn't make cannabis any less damaging, does it?

@ParkheadParadise I'm so sorry for your loss.

PatricksRum · 08/02/2020 02:24

Me. It absolutely stinks.

HumansAreConsumable · 08/02/2020 02:40

Imagine a road with all your hobbies and things you like to do on the sides of that road. Long term use of weed makes those hobbies drop off one by one because the person prefers to smoke weed

Eventually self care starts dropping off too

What bollocks 🤣

DeeCeeCherry · 08/02/2020 03:16

I don't hate cannabis. Don't smoke it either. But I don't mind it around me.

I don't like Skunk weed - that's entirely different, it smells strongly & eventually turns it's users into paranoid motivation - shy bores.

Back home cannabis has been used for medicinal purposes since way back when. Nobody smokes chemical Skunk, which I think is only available in the West anyway and is popular because its cheaper than green/high grade

Weffiepops · 08/02/2020 03:35

No I don't really know anyone who smokes it. Respect your boundaries and don't let others cross them

WelcomeToShootingStars · 08/02/2020 03:46

I'm not keen on the smell. I wouldn't have anybody smoke it in my home, but then I wouldn't allow anybody to smoke in my home at all, or take other drugs.

I view it as similar to alcohol. An odd one here and there is fine. Habitual use isn't.

Piccalino3 · 08/02/2020 03:57

I absolutely hate it. I believe that it is a gateway drug and I think it ruins lives. My brother was a heavy user in his teens and I truly believe that it changed his brain. I know lots of other men like this too. My brother is a self centred, selfish man who takes little responsibility in life and I absolutely believe a lot of that is down to drug use and cannibis use in particular. He now lives in a state where it was legal and he was a licensed medical Marijuana provider. It was a joke. He was actually a drug dealer with people calling his phone all times of the day and night, pots and bags everywhere, living with my Dad at the time who I'm sure worried that someone would come and shoot up the house in some kind of drug warfare (and my Dad was a very world wise man not prone to overreaction).

I think people kid themselves about the effects of it and apart from pain management perhaps I think it makes no one a better person. I hate how it is normalised in society now but then again I have lots of views that are unpopular right now and I don't care. Just because it's not popular or cool thinking doesn't mean it's wrong.

MaxPanic · 08/02/2020 04:12

I can only judge by what I've seen, and that's my BIL growing and smoking shitloads of the stuff over the last 20 years. He's paranoid, lacking in any drive or motivation, is a conspiracy theorist and flat earther, vile to his partner, mother and his dog, and thinks he's way more intelligent than everyone else.

Of course he might be all of those things without the skunk but I remember him as being much better company before he started growing it and smoking a lot more of it.

The car washing team at our local supermarket all seem to smoke it too, that whole section of the car park stinks. And they move people's cars around, they drive them like bumper cars! Shock

BritWifeinUSA · 08/02/2020 04:22

I only use edibles. I don’t mind the smoke but I don’t like smoking it myself.

Sofacat · 08/02/2020 04:26

I’m now wide awake )have to go to work in a few hours ) fuming , I was woken up by the smellOf cannabis . My dd got up ( at this bloody hour) to smoke it in the garden and the smell wafted in through my bedroom window. I hate it . I hate seeing her doped up. I agreed to have her boyfriend move in with us and he smokes it too- first thing in the morning, first thing they do when they get home from work. I’m sick of it . The neighbours have complained about the smell seeping into their houses. I guess I’m going to have to give an ultimatum- stop smoking it or leave.

DimplesToadfoot · 08/02/2020 04:47

If it didn't smell so bad I couldn't give 2 hoots about it,

There is a driveway between me and a neighbour and my house is always filling with the stench of it, in the summer I can't open my windows or sit out in the garden.

The mum smokes it, the daughter smokes it and the grandkids are now smoking it, the Grandkids still go to Primary school :-(

I want to be tolerant and say each to their own but why does other people wanting to smoke this stuff and stink to high heaven trump my not wanting to breathe in and smell their stench

Insaneinthemembury · 08/02/2020 04:51

I hate it op, it destroyed my brother and was a gateway drug for my friend who's always on something now.
I hate the smell, how boring people are when they're on it and how prolonged used really affects mental health. The paranoia I've seen it cause and slurred speech and just people seem less sharp who've been on it for years, one doesnt blink properly.
I hate the drug dealers who sell it.
Yep, hate it!

Firefretted · 08/02/2020 05:35

Dimplestoadfoot If primary school children are being given drugs, that's a safeguarding issue and needs reporting to ss

Newmetoday · 08/02/2020 07:10

We really need to start using it more for medical issues.

Oysterbabe · 08/02/2020 07:17

I do hate it but it doesn't really feature in my life. I don't know anyone who smokes it anymore, most people get it out of their system at university ime.

Purplelion · 08/02/2020 07:59

I think alcohol is far more damaging. My mum is an alcoholic and has ruined her life. I rarely drink.
I know plenty of people (Friends and family members) who smoke weed, they have jobs, hobbies, social lives, no horrible hangovers.
I’m not saying weed doesn’t have an effect on some people’s MH, I agree that it can, but we don’t know how people would have been had they not smoked weed. It clearly has medical uses which is now recognised.
People who say stoners sit around, doing nothing, have no life etc are basing their options on stereotypes seen in the media. A lot more people than we realise will smoke it after work/weekends to relax, in the same way that people have a glass of wine etc.

IceIceCoffee · 08/02/2020 08:04

I was in a long term relationship with someone who used it a lot. Prior to that I smoked it myself. I now can’t stand it.
It does have the potential to be detrimental to people’s lives and it can cause a kind of dependency. No way is it completely fine.
I still suffer the mental repercussions of an Ex that was dependant.

Treacletoots · 08/02/2020 08:05

I've been on both sides. My ExH used it a lot and he was a lazy cunt. Some may blame the weed, I m not convinced.

I now very occasionally enjoy the odd joint, it chills me out and has no side effects. It also helps with back and joint pain like nothing else.

It's also proven to be very effective helping people with very severe medical conditions.

Attitudes that are negative don't help people who really would benefit from it. It's not crystal meth, and before anyone says it leads to it, I call bollocks. Ive never once thought, oh yes I fancy coke, crack or anything else. Its all down to your choice.

Dont like the smell though!

Patroclus · 08/02/2020 08:06

Hate it. Its the way they need everybody else to accept it as amazing that pisses me off as well and how they need to claim it cures everything and doesnt clearly send people mental.

Sofacat · 08/02/2020 08:12

My dd and her boyfriend smoke it in the morning, if someone picked up a glass of wine at 10 am I think people would see that as a problem .

Nymerialuna · 08/02/2020 08:13

I don't like it. When I was much younger I did smoke it a few times but I never liked how it made me feel and the smell of it makes me feel sick now.
DH will very occassionally smoke it but he does have a medical condition and he does find it helps but he doesn't smoke it recreationally.
I do have friends that smoke it recreationally and I don't think any the worse of them for doing so, but it's a hard no for me doing it (or being around them when they smoke it).

DeeZastris · 08/02/2020 08:14

It stinks and people who use it tend to be unbelievably boring.

Patroclus · 08/02/2020 08:15

Id have never have got onto heroin if I hadnt started out on weed.

VestaTilley · 08/02/2020 08:18

I loathe it, and hate how it's becoming more common to smell it in general. It stinks to high heaven, is bad for you and bloody antisocial.

If any police are reading this: please do something about it!

I couldn't be with a cannabis user.

Bluntness100 · 08/02/2020 08:21

I don't hate it, but the majority of people who I have met who do it, for recreational purposes, can't seem to limit it unless they have to, either due to access, funds, or work. It seems to escalate when they are able to escalate it. So they end up zombied or doing it daily.

Whereas I don't see that with the majority of drinkers, they are not alcoholics given the opportunity , which would be the equivalent.

So I don't know, I just think it's not so harmless as it's purported to be. I do think it's addictive' but not sure if the nicotine taken in with it, adds to that. It's difficult to comprehend.
