Does anyone else really hate cannabis?

Greengang321 · 08/02/2020 00:39

I feel like it’s a really unpopular view at the moment with the age old come back that it’s natural and better than drinking.

But i just really hate it. I hate the smell, I’m not a fan of hanging around people who are high, I really hate the idea of people smoking it in and around my property.

When I met my partner he didn’t smoke it but now he does. Aibu for hating him smoking it?

I hate to the damage it’s done to so so many irs by far the biggest issues in mh services with young people

I hate the denial of the impact on so many

The drug itself well it comes in different forms but I’ve yet to met a smoker who has smoked for many years and it has t impacted them - they just don’t see it but for some it’s not such a huge issues others it can be devastating

DimplesToadfoot · 08/02/2020 12:54

@Firefretted

Do you really think the SS care? Lol get in the real world, there isn't enough SS to go round, it's my word against theirs, as there is 1 of me and a herd of them denying it. The only result of reporting it would be my windows going through

Bluerussian · 08/02/2020 12:57

You don't have to use it nor mix with people who do. Entirely your choice.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/02/2020 12:57

us mh professionals are seeing the horrendous damage of cannabis use the numbers of those getting support is increasing hugely - it’s fuelling gang issues, knife attacks and so on these young men are not drinking they are smoking weed that increases the fear and paranoia many are already feeling

And they are the ones in contact with services many are not and will not engage we are only too aware of that until they are sectioned

Vast majority of those in contact with services will claim cannabis is not an issue or it was just one bad batch

It’s heartbreaking to see so many young people in particular men lives ruined by what so many perceive as a harmless drug

TheOrangeFox · 08/02/2020 12:57

I hate it but have no problem with others using it. I can't stand the smell so it's a huge no for us. DH hasn't smoked it in 10+ years because he doesn't like the feeling of being high and never saw the hype. I should try it for chronic pain because I've heard great things but every time I've smoked it I end up feeling sick and none of the good benefits ever reach me.

Firefretted · 08/02/2020 13:12

Dimplestoadfoot I am a social worker. Yes ss would absolutely care. You can report anonymously if you're concerned about repercussions

£170 - £280 per ounce, North to South Morris

PapayaCoconut · 08/02/2020 13:31

Weed may be an excellent painkiller but so is vodka and nobody is arguing that's good for you.

Oliversmumsarmy · 08/02/2020 13:34

Personally I hate the smell

Cannnabis isn't like cigarettes where you can see a direct link between cigarette smoking and ill health but a more subtle link between cannabis and mental health (for want of a better word)

I know some who have always been heavy users and now 20 years later it becomes very noticeable if they are anywhere with other people for any length of time.

Even the ones who smoke it casually later in life don’t seem as sharp as their non partaking peers.

Having said that I do know some who need it for pain relief. I know a few MS sufferers who swear by it and have their own little plant

I think that for certain reasons cannabis has a place.

But as a social drug I think definitely more research into the link between long term mental health and regular cannabis use should be looked into.

ProclivitiesMcManus · 08/02/2020 14:07

Weed may be an excellent painkiller but so is vodka

I don't know if you're speaking from experience, but I'm not aware that this is true.

Ronnie27 · 08/02/2020 14:20

I hate it, it turns promising teenagers into losers and has a lasting impact on mental health.

NC4Now · 08/02/2020 14:24

I hate the criminality and exploitation that surrounds it. You see vulnerable youngsters plucked from the care system and groomed into running drugs for older, more sophisticated criminals. Addicts being forced to deal to pay off debts. Robberies, often with weapons.
It’s a horrible, horrible world, and if you use cannabis, you are supporting it.
It’s an argument for legalisation but as it isn’t at the moment, it’s just grim.

NC4Now · 08/02/2020 14:30

Oh, I forgot to mention the human trafficking between Vietnam and the UK, where young men are forced into slavery working in cannabis farms.

Have a read of this and tell me cannabis is harmless.

I fully believe access to widely varying (and doped?) Cannabis contributed to my brothers mental psychosis and eventual suicide, and would love to see it removed completly from the street.

This exact situation happened to my brother too in his 20s. I think this kind of thing happens too often with cannabis use and there is a connection to mental health, with some people at least.

squizzles · 08/02/2020 14:41

I don't mind if people using it, as long as its away from me and my child. My partner smokes, but only every blue moon.

What I do hate is walking down the street in London and a random just reeks of the stuff. Or dicks who smoke casually as they're walking down the road.

Lilybetsey · 08/02/2020 14:43

YANBU. I hate it, hate the smell, hate the effect, hate the mood swings, lazy bum attitude. But the my ex husband became a very heavy smoker after we had children. It wrecked my marriage and I would never ever spend any time with any man who smokes it again.

Giggorata · 08/02/2020 15:04

What people are smoking today seems very different to what was about back in the day. Skunk in particular. Selectively bred for higher thc content, probably even genetically modified. It seems to produce a much greater adverse impact on a greater number of users' mental health.

However, given the huge crime/gang/trafficking connections, I still think that it should be legalised, partly to remove the crime element and partly because it would be subject to some kind of standards, with a better cbd /thc ratio.

DukeChatsworth · 08/02/2020 15:06

I hate it.

I don’t like the way people behave on it. The smell of it both during smoking and particularly afterwards is so grim. The long term personalities of frequent users change too and I don’t like what it does to them.

Hate it all round.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/02/2020 15:13

Skunk is very potent in comparison to what many would have smoked years ago

But there is a reason it was called dope ....

Paddy1234 · 08/02/2020 15:16

I hate it as have seen the psychological problems 30 years down the line and the damage it has done to families.

Supersimkin2 · 08/02/2020 15:25

Medical cannabis is different to street skunk. Very different.

'Medical' arguments don't apply to social users cos both groups are taking separate drugs.

Users have a miles higher risk of insanity. Most people get away with it, but the ones who don't really don't.

Angie6868 · 08/02/2020 15:29

I can't stand the smell. It's vile. If other people want to smoke it, that's fine. It's not for me though

WhatKatyDidNot · 08/02/2020 16:09

Medical cannabis is different to street skunk. Very different.

Yes. I'm not at all opposed to various compounds of cannabis being medical prescriptions, provided the evidence meets NICE standards.

mencken · 08/02/2020 16:13

yes, it is called 'dope' not 'intelligent' for a reason.

I used to see it as just Darwin award stuff. Now I know about cuckooing, county lines, gang violence and knife crime, and have seen the after effects of some of that - all illegal drug users are scum and are paying other scum.

yes, it should be legalised for medical use.

Shinycat · 08/02/2020 17:17

@mencken
