DH wants us to go on holiday to somewhere I don't

DH has said he's tired of me choosing where we go on holiday. In the past he's just said he's happy to go wherever so I spend ages researching places and booking somewhere I think everyone will like.

He said this morning he wants us to try something different and go somewhere else. No beach, not much there from what I can see and it's near Afghanistan. I really don't think this is the ideal place for a family holiday at all. I know he's adventurous but this is madness.

He's now in a huff because I immediately said no. He said we won't go anywhere in that case which I thought was a bit of an over reaction. I don't know what's got into him recently. AIBU to say no straight away to this?

@Toomuchtrouble4me the tourist parts of Uzbekistan are nowhere near any of those borders. You'd have to go really out of your way to get anywhere with the same sort of terrorism risk as London.

BlokeTarget · 05/02/2020 23:26

You sound very controlling. And now you don’t have it your way- you’ve flat out said no immediately.

What’s wrong with trying something different for a change? But no. You must organising and decide everything.

scottsparkteacher · 06/02/2020 00:50

We spent a few days in Kazakhstan last year. The only frustrating thing was we DIDN’T get to spend more time in Central Asia and go beyond Astana. Our 7 year old loved the trip, and we tried local food in a canteen style restaurant, choosing dishes by pointing. I’m glad you appear to have changed your mind. Have a good holiday wherever you go.

scottsparkteacher · 06/02/2020 01:11

To pp who said about fco travel advice......their web pages state that every country in the world are at risk from terrorism! Including San Marino

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/02/2020 01:18

Terrorist attacks in Uzbekistan can’t be ruled out. See Terrorism

What Canadians are telling their people:

United Kingdom - Exercise a high degree of caution
Exercise a high degree of caution in the United Kingdom due to the threat of terrorism.

So worse then...

DulciUke · 06/02/2020 01:25

Curse you OP. I never thought of going to Uzbekistan at any point in my life, and now I'm mad to go. Yet another place for the bucket list...

My DH wants to do a centre parks type thing in Germany and I won’t even do that with the kids because there’s no pool - only lake swimming. Fucking Uzbekistan? Sod that!

@Toomuchtrouble4me

Yep - I prefer a pool to a lake. I too have been to some very remote places - I'd wager more than most people. But now I have kids I like a pool and a bit of comfort. But bloody Uzbekistan - I 100% KNEW that the woke MN's would make out that they'd love it - but I'm with you op.

saraclara · 06/02/2020 07:16

Make it that they love it? As in lie about it? Who on earth would anyone do that? That also doesn't explain me going there twice...to a place that I can't possibly have honestly loved.

And fuck the woke tag. You sound idiotic.

WalkingDeadTrainee · 06/02/2020 08:21

1 is Spain, 1 is Uzbekistan.
Now tell me @Toomuchtrouble4me which one sounds like there is a bigger threat there🤔

Fuck that. I don't do woke. I do do holidays in places like Uzbekistan.

You've made it look like I said that about my DH. I didn't, and I wouldn't. Don't make it look like I said things I didn't. Thank you.

Toomuchtrouble4me · 06/02/2020 09:13

You don’t think that people lie on mumsnet?🤣ok wokey face

IntermittentParps · 06/02/2020 12:19

riceuten, (and sorry to derail), can I ask where in Poland? I'm thinking about going and so far have only thought of visiting Krakow and theBiałowieża Forest, and maybe the Baltic coast.

Fuck off.

IntermittentParps · 06/02/2020 14:33

'wokey face'? What are you twelve?

amispeakingenglish · 06/02/2020 15:06

First world problems!

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/02/2020 15:25

wokey face

Ha ha my passport is so full of weird and wonderful places that I got asked at passport control if I worked for the UN once. It turns out that people, like different things! IKR? Cannot STAND beach holidays and like formerly/currently Communist countries. Never met one I didn't like. I haven't tried Russia but that might be my line. You know how I'll know? I'll go there, like a crazy wokey bastard.

ToTravelIsToLive · 06/02/2020 15:34

Don't shut the idea down until you have researched it. There are some amazing countries that offer amazing opportunities, experiences, food and memories. Afghanistan is a large country and not the one your going to. Check the travel advice and make an informed decision. The UK has a pretty significant terrorism risk

thekatydids · 06/02/2020 16:49

my passport is so full of weird and wonderful places

Have you got North Korea? Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/02/2020 20:46

There are places even I wouldn't go! I'd love to see North Korea, but it's a hard no to visiting! 20 years in a labour camp for an infraction puts me off!

thekatydids · 06/02/2020 20:57

I can recommend Russia then, we went last year.
Where else have you been?

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/02/2020 21:03

SE Asia, Central America, all over Europe, East Africa, North America. China. Australasia, South Seas.

On the list: Bhutan, Uzbekistan, Iraq/Iran when they calm down. Algeria ditto. Russia/Mongolia.

saraclara · 06/02/2020 21:08

I went to Iran two or three years ago. I'm so glad I managed to get out there while things were slightly less angsty than they are now. It's a wonderful country, with the most hospitable and friendly people I have met anywhere in the world.

Definitely get out there as soon as you feel comfortable with the idea, @MrsTerryPratchett

It’s also a hard no as they’ve shut the border to China (and Russia) because of coronavirus!

TeaForTara · 07/02/2020 09:47

I looked in to North Korea a few years ago (I'd watched "Holidays in the access of evil" on TV) but at the time it was a two week trip but you only got to spend about 5 days in the country, the rest was all travelling. I decided it wasn't worth it.
