DH wants us to go on holiday to somewhere I don't

DH has said he's tired of me choosing where we go on holiday. In the past he's just said he's happy to go wherever so I spend ages researching places and booking somewhere I think everyone will like.

He said this morning he wants us to try something different and go somewhere else. No beach, not much there from what I can see and it's near Afghanistan. I really don't think this is the ideal place for a family holiday at all. I know he's adventurous but this is madness.

He's now in a huff because I immediately said no. He said we won't go anywhere in that case which I thought was a bit of an over reaction. I don't know what's got into him recently. AIBU to say no straight away to this?

Give it a go! Tell him it's down to him to do the arranging. It could be fun!

CameFromAway · 04/02/2020 12:41

Wow, just googled it and it looks incredible!

RaininSummer · 04/02/2020 12:45

I couldn't be bothered with flying places for a beach holiday but your husband's suggestion sounds interesting.

minipie · 04/02/2020 12:46

Well done on the U turn OP!

With one 10 year old child, assuming she is fairly flexible about food etc, I’d definitely be up for some more adventurous holidays.

Unfortunately I have two small DC who can’t deal with jetlag or spicy food

Where have you been on holiday so far? If it’s all been Europe then maybe you could find a middle option, a bit more adventurous but not quite so far off the beaten path as Uzbekhistan.... Marrakech, Vietnam, Costa Rica for eg.

cologne4711 · 04/02/2020 12:46

What about Georgia instead? It looks amazing too and might be a stepping stone to somewhere like Uzbekistan.

I see you've said you'll go, so if you do, have a wonderful time.

As for the pp's who say "you have to step out of our comfort zone" who says? People don't get masses of annual leave and most people aren't loaded, so you don't want to waste valuable time and money on a holiday you may not enjoy.

Dozer · 04/02/2020 12:47

I wouldn’t want to go to somewhere with a more authoritarian government than Russia!

cologne4711 · 04/02/2020 12:47

not quite so far off the beaten path as Uzbekhistan.... Marrakech, Vietnam, Costa Rica for eg

Hmmm I think I'd choose Uzbekhistan if you gave me that choice.

managedmis · 04/02/2020 12:48

Uzbekistan

Dragonembroidery · 04/02/2020 12:48

Why do you get to make all the decisions!
Reverse sexism imo.

I'd divorce you.

cologne4711 · 04/02/2020 12:49

I wrote it both ways, wasn't sure without googling which was correct.

Anyway spelling isn't the point of the thread.

Igotthemheavyboobs · 04/02/2020 12:49

I would take the wind RIGHT out of his sails here

DH I've researched and it sounds great. Fab that you are taking the lead with the holiday for a change! I'm fine with it, I'll hand over to you now for sorting everything - if you could research places to stay/stuff to do/visas/travel costs/stuff we'll need to pack... just let me know if you need any info from me...

Are people seriously with men they consider so incompetent that booking a holiday would phase them? Why is this considered a womans job? I would assume as he was picking the destination this time, he would be booking it. No malice intended.

Auridon4life · 04/02/2020 12:52

I think if you both went on Instagram together you'd find a million better holiday ideas. It's basically just a massive brochure for the planet.

ChilliMayo · 04/02/2020 12:54

Now just hold up there OP. You realise you may need to leave Mumsnet? It's just not the done thing to listen to pp, talk to friends to garner real life opinion, then decide you ABU and change your mind.
Traitor. You missed out 9 pages of hmming and ha-ing, 103 LTB and a long ole drip feed.

Have a great holiday Smile

cologne4711 · 04/02/2020 12:54

I would assume as he was picking the destination this time, he would be booking it

Ha ha ha. My DH is very capable but booking holidays is definitely my job even if he chose the destination. He's done research before and found a hotel, but it's my job to book it.

saraclara · 04/02/2020 12:57

Uzbekistan is one of my favourite countries! I've been there twice. The people are really hospitable and I 100% recommend it!

Coldilox · 04/02/2020 12:59

I’d love to go there!

saraclara · 04/02/2020 13:01

Just saw your update, OP! I'm so glad you're up for it now. I've been lucky enough to have travelled a lot, and of all the many countries I've visited independently, Uzbekistan is right up in the top 3. I'm planning to take a third trip sometime, as there's just so much to see and it's such a comfortable yet exotic place in which to travel.

I'm envious!

Realitea · 04/02/2020 13:04

@ChililMayo that made me laugh so much! I know it's not the done thing but I'm pretty open minded and don't fancy LTB based on a holiday. Grin

That's awesome SaraClara ! I'm actually quite excited now!

Just googled it and it looks amazing. I would definitely go.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 04/02/2020 13:10

I’m just here to say that Central Asian food is amazing!!!! To the PP who’s children can’t do spicy food, I would say, in the main it is spiced with spices but not necessarily chilli so isn’t hot but fragrant with some small exceptions.

DefConOne · 04/02/2020 13:14

I’m having a similar issue with my DH. He’s already done Georgia and the stans overland. I’d love to go but our DC wouldn’t. They are very happy to look at historic buildings and museums as long as the carrot of a pool or theme park is dangled at them.

Brefugee · 04/02/2020 13:15

So based on this thread and a quick conflab with the DH looks like Uzbekistan is getting a visit from me too Grin

Come to think of it, I've seen ads on CNN and BBC world news (what can i say, they're sometimes the only channels you get when you're travelling) for Tashkent and it looks amazing.

@saraclara where else do you recommend? (sorry to hijack your thread, OP)

BarbedBloom · 04/02/2020 13:15

This sounds amazing. I hate beach holidays or ones where you just stay in the resort so this would be my sort of thing. I think it is nice to alternate holidays where possible so everyone gets to have something they enjoy at some point

ScreamingLadySutch · 04/02/2020 13:18

Did you apologise to him and say you did a bit more asking and now you would like to go?
