To think that a lot of genuinely beautiful people ruin themselves with plastic surgery etc?

As a self confessed utterly ugly bug I just can't understand it... There are truly beautiful women out there who do it to themselves time and time again and end up almost caricatures of themselves.

Just a thought after seeing the latest pics of Catherine Zeta Jones who was incredibly gorgeous. Not a caricature yet, but perhaps in danger of going there.

I lip read.

It’s really hard to understand people who’ve had fillers and botox. Their lips don’t make the same shapes.

I can spot botox and fillers instantly no matter how subtle.

CoraPirbright · 23/01/2020 08:06

How funny OP I was thinking exactly this only last night. I stumbled across Ocean’s 8 (fairly crappy film but the clothes are fab!) and was so sad to see that the lovely Sandra Bullock had succumbed to fillers and now looked like she was wearing a weird puffy mask.

I have NO idea why they need to tinker when they are so beautiful in the first place - look at Cheryl Cole/Tweedy/whatever. SO pretty but now looking puffy and lets not even start on those weird, Bratz-doll style lips that the girls go in for now. Just bizarre.

Helen Mirren looks amazing and she must have had a few tweaks. Also I am guessing that Gillian Anderson must have had some work but they are really the only ones who look better now than they did.

starsparkle08 · 23/01/2020 08:06

I think from photos I’ve seen catherine keta Jones looks great

LittleSweet · 23/01/2020 08:07

Catherine Zeta Jones probably looks good in photos because her face isn't moving. I was shocked by the lack of movement in the clip of her and how puffy her face is.

Greyhound22 · 23/01/2020 08:11

Sadly it's pressure to look a certain way and not to age as it's the younger women who get the parts. Was watching a film the other day (dunno what) and Tom Cruise was the lead and his love interest was about 25? Older women - unless they are lucky - don't get longevity like the men do.

I actually thing CZJ now looks older than her 48 years.

I think Lauren Goodger must be unwell and it's shocking what the surgeons have done.

I can't criticise the women at all. It's alway 'look what they've done to themselves' it's more what society has done to them.

BeTheRabbit · 23/01/2020 08:16

Just to add I'm not sagging off these women. I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who has never had beauty, always been ugly, wondering why those who were lucky enough to have it would (in my mind) throw it away on these procedures that (in extreme cases, not every case) ruin it. It's especially mystifying to me.

@SpokeTooSoon

You look at poor Courtney Cox with dismay and wonder does she really think she looks better than she would have if she’d aged naturally? She probably looks in the mirror and thinks:

Lines gone: check
Jowls gone: check
Full lips: check
Eyes (whatever the fuck she’s done): check.

Courtney has often spoken out about her regrets of having surgery and says she wishes he hadn’t:

“I would say it’s a common thing you go through as you age, especially in Hollywood," she told People. "You have to accept getting older, and that’s something that I had a hard time doing. [I tried] to keep up with time in a way that was anything other than maintenance. I didn’t realise it until one day I kind of stepped back and went, 'Oh shit. I don’t look like myself.'"

Great plastic surgery like a light face lift or well done nose job can leave someone looking fantastic. It’s the Botox, fillers and other crap which makes women look awful and weird. Louise is on tv this morning and she has the most plump, tight and shiny cheeks I’ve ever seen on a 45 year old woman, it just looks odd.

TruffleShuffles · 23/01/2020 08:54

This thread was the first thing that came to my mind when I just switched on GMB and saw Louise Redknapp’s face.

I’ve always thought she was beautiful and it was refreshing that she hadn’t touched her face. Looks like being single later in life and working with a love islander has made her give in to the pressure.

SameOldHorrorStory · 23/01/2020 08:57

I think Renee zellweger was a HUGE shock. I thought she looked more like her normal self in Bridget Jones Baby but I remember when the pictures first came out of her on a red carpet event and it was honestly like she had a face transplant.

SameOldHorrorStory · 23/01/2020 09:03

And not exclusively women. I don’t know whether it’s the surgery that makes them look bad or all the other shit they shovel into their faces. All involved should be ashamed of themselves. I couldn’t sleep at night knowing I’d had a hand in mutilating someone into a monstrosity

Langsdestiny · 23/01/2020 09:07

Yes, do no harm.

IdleBet · 23/01/2020 09:07

I think it's so obvious when people have had work done, my friend's daughter has cheek fillers.

She looks like the Saw mask.

It's so sad that people just aren't comfortable in their own skin.

Bloody reality TV has ramped it up.

Would love everyone to go back to their natural faces and stop focusing on bloody looks. It's so shallow.

SpokeTooSoon · 23/01/2020 09:12

Victoria Beckham’s mouth is a curious thing these days. It looks like a duck’s bill.

Does she genuinely think it looks good??

Sunsetandmoonlight · 23/01/2020 09:14

I can’t see that Catherine Zeta Jones looks that much different tbh. Her top lip does look a bit full so maybe she has overdone that.

parsnippoop · 23/01/2020 09:18

Cheryl Cole looks so weird on the Voice but I can't work out what she's done.

Bathroom12345 · 23/01/2020 09:33

Take my word for it. Helen Mirren has had a fab face lift.

Hagbeth · 23/01/2020 09:33

YABU Just looking at Barbara Hershey and Priscilla Presley is sad.

Geoffreythecat · 23/01/2020 09:46

I think well done plastic surgery is probably much less obvious than botox or fillers. That frozen rigid look with the smooth forehead and fillers between nose and mouth is ubiquitous these days.

doadeer · 23/01/2020 10:05

What's strange with Catherine Zeta Jones is she is with a man so much older who obviously has aged a lot whereas now she is frozen in time!

I think when you've spent your life being told how beautiful you are it must be terrifying losing that. Men are told they look better as they age and can have careers where they are still "heart throbs" with grey hair like Sean connery. Very rarely does this happen for women.

I suppose the women who have great plastic surgery we don't notice... That's the point right they just look amazing?

doadeer · 23/01/2020 10:08

Also oddly many women who have work in their 20s end up actually looking a lot older I think... I makes it look like they were older trying to look young so it has the reverse effect

Thymelord · 23/01/2020 10:10

"Why do women have plastic surgery blah blah"

6 pages of women bashing other women for their looks. That'd be why.

pinkytheunicorn · 23/01/2020 10:28

I know a woman who I used to work with, we're linked on Facebook. She's was absolutely stunning and she's only 25. I saw a picture of her on FB the other day and I was shocked at her face. Puffy cheeks, huge lips and something different about her eyes, they look a bit feline.

She's still pretty, but she looks distorted. There wasn't a wrinkle on her, I've no idea why she felt the need to do that to herself.

pinkytheunicorn · 23/01/2020 10:32

I also think the Duchess is Cambridge has had work done (although I think she looks amazing). Subtly over the years, but if you look at pictures of her around just before they got engaged her face looks quite different. Some of that is weight loss, she's far slighter these days but when when she has some pregnancy weight on her face seems noticeably different from before. I'm not quite sure how though, which is why I think it's probably very subtle and a skilled surgeon! Slight change to her nose maybe?

pinkytheunicorn · 23/01/2020 10:32

Sigh. 'Of' Cambridge, obviously.
