To ask, if you had £40 to spend on yourself, what would you spend it on?

Hi everyone. So I have £40 left from my Christmas gift money! With the rest I got new cushions, curtains and some other house bits Hmm which is always the case tbh. Now I’m wondering what I should do with the last £40! Part of me wants clothes as I only get clothes twice a year - with Christmas money or birthday money, other than that I do love a good charity shop bargain BUT then other parts of me think about getting one or 2 more expensive items of clothing rather than cheaper bits at primark, or the really naughty part of me wants to just spend it on a massage as I’ve never had one and think it would be lovely to have a bit of relaxation time! Thoughts? Thanks 😊 (I don’t know if it matters but I’m 29 with 2 kids and don’t drink so won’t be having a night out with it or a bottle of gin lol)

Imo a new handbag would be lovely!!
Sadly I had no cash for the sales.
Did manage to get a new throw.
For the bloody ddogs though!!

GoldLeafTree · 10/01/2020 09:53

I treated myself to a nice haircut with my Christmas money, I never spend money on myself so it was a lovely treat.

I'd get yourself one or two more expensive pieces of clothing

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/01/2020 09:54

I have £40 in my purse from birthday money, it's been there a while so I have the same dilemma. It's definitely not being spent on the house though, I need the treat.

notacooldad · 10/01/2020 09:57

Personally I would be straight on to Skyscanner!
If not In a position to book a flight I'd probably buy some new perfume.

Nottobesoldseparately · 10/01/2020 09:57

I'd go to tk Maxx with it, have a really good look at everything and come away with something new to wear, ear rings, toiletries and candles and probably a handbag.

I might have to add a tenner but I can normally get all the above for about £50.

8feet12paws2fins · 10/01/2020 09:57

I never spend money on myself either! I feel so guilty when I do and always think of other ways it could be spent. Even now I’m thinking I would quite like a DAB radio or a new curtain pole Confused I’m terrible at this lol I’m determined to be a little bit selfish though and actually treat myself properly with it!
@Whynosnowyet I don’t really use handbags any more! I’m either at work, the school run or home so don’t have much use for them any more! I just use a small bag for my purse etc when shopping so a nice new bag would be wasted on me.

P.s. sorry for all the exclamation marks everyone, I’m sure some people are gritting their teeth, it’s a bad habit and I don’t know where it came from!

Lego. It's my hobby and I need some bits for a build I will hopefully be displaying later in the year. Whatever your favourite thing is should be what you spend it on.

8feet12paws2fins · 10/01/2020 09:59

@notacooldad I’ve never heard of sky scanner and as you mentioned flights, surely there’s no flights for £40? @Nottobesoldseparately I haven’t been in tkmaxx in years and years to be honest. I see a lot of people buying nice homeware stuff from there but I haven’t been in an age! Might have to pop in on my next day off!

I would buy an expensive bubble bath or bath oil.or some face and hair masks.
What a lovely dilemma to have op.

Ishotmrburns · 10/01/2020 10:00

I'd go shopping and get a nice pair of jeans or something. That way it lasts. Crown Smile

Pardonwhat · 10/01/2020 10:02

Some new bubble bath, a bottle of wine (or perhaps a book) and a Chinese takeaway.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 10/01/2020 10:03

I would get gel nails, eyebrows shaped & tinted, and then go to the supermarket and buy wine, chocolate and flowers

Coffee instead of wine? Smile

Or fluffy socks, pjs, hair mask, face mask etc

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 10/01/2020 10:03

A massage, definitely!

8feet12paws2fins · 10/01/2020 10:04

That’s the thing @bookmum08 I actually don’t know what my favourite things are. Sad I know but if people say what’s your favourite this or that I honestly don’t know how to answer. It’s kind of like I don’t know myself as sad as that sounds. I guess this is probably drip feeding or whatever it’s called but I’ve ALWAYS put everyone else first all my life and made sure everyone else is happy before myself but I had a major mental health breakdown last year and now I’m feeling better I want to put myself first for once.

One item of nice clothing.
Or a haircut.
Massages are very hit and miss I've found. If you do that get a recommendation.

reluctantbrit · 10/01/2020 10:06

I just bought a new bag with the remains of the gift card we get from work each year as a Christmas present. But I do use a bag every day so while not necessarily needed it was a treat for me.

Otherwise I would go for a facial or some really nice item of clothing. I do pay for good work wear but always skim on clothing I wear outside work.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 10/01/2020 10:06

Go and get a massage or your hair or nails done.

Something specifically for you (that's not going to get covered in paint or plasticine!)

TARSCOUT · 10/01/2020 10:06

I would either have a massage (check groupon for deals) or have 4 secret visits to a really nice coffee shop with a book and switch off my phone and have coffee and goey cake.

WeeSleekitTimerousMoosey · 10/01/2020 10:10

Each to their own but I'd spend it on books.

notaregularmom · 10/01/2020 10:10

I'm the same op I don't know what my favourites things are too, was talking about this the other day with my friend she asked what my favourite meal, colour and film was Confused I truly didn't know how to answer Blush
I never treat myself either I'd rather buy for the kids (I have 5) or the house. I spent all my money Xmas money on house bits and didn't get one thing for myself when I desperately need clothes.
My thinking is I'd rather be scruffy in a nice home Confused

8feet12paws2fins · 10/01/2020 10:16

Some great suggestions on here! I’m still not sure which way to go, I always think too practically! Like I would love a massage but I think well after an hour that’s done and gone but if I get a new coat it will last a while or if I get stuff for the house it benefits everyone Confused I’m off to the range soon so I’m going to try not to spend it in there on house stuff Grin

OP posts:
GiveHerHellFromUs · 10/01/2020 10:17

Don't spend it on house stuff!

AuntieMarys · 10/01/2020 10:20

Hardback books

icanhearapindrop · 10/01/2020 10:21

Do you like gardening? How about spend some of it on some plants?

Newname1978 · 10/01/2020 10:21

You really want a massage so do it. Look around to get the best deal. They're usually expensive but I've a lovely local place that does a body massage, head massage and facial for the same price other places charge just for the body massage.
So price a few places today, choose the best deal and go and enjoy every minute.
