To ask, if you had £40 to spend on yourself, what would you spend it on?

Hi everyone. So I have £40 left from my Christmas gift money! With the rest I got new cushions, curtains and some other house bits Hmm which is always the case tbh. Now I’m wondering what I should do with the last £40! Part of me wants clothes as I only get clothes twice a year - with Christmas money or birthday money, other than that I do love a good charity shop bargain BUT then other parts of me think about getting one or 2 more expensive items of clothing rather than cheaper bits at primark, or the really naughty part of me wants to just spend it on a massage as I’ve never had one and think it would be lovely to have a bit of relaxation time! Thoughts? Thanks 😊 (I don’t know if it matters but I’m 29 with 2 kids and don’t drink so won’t be having a night out with it or a bottle of gin lol)

Sorry for the delay in replies everyone, just got back! I was meant to be going to get some wallpaper but I’m so caught up in overthinking about the most effective way to spend this money that I came away without any - just a bottle of elbow grease Sad I really don’t think there are any spas near to me that I could get a spa day for £40, even on groupon so that is out of the question unfortunately! Can imagine how great it is though! I’m not going to buy a hair dryer because although mine is pants I rarely use it enough to warrant buying a new one when this one ‘works’. I tend to wash my hair at night and go to bed with it wet Blush I know some of you will be cringing at that! I love reading what some of the things are that each of you would buy that bring you joy! I liked the one that was a specific as a dark green beanie! Love it

I've got £40 left from Christmas and I'm going to treat myself to some sheepers I think!

Chestnut23 · 10/01/2020 14:43

A few little luxuries that will last you a long time and bring joy when you use them- nice tea, coffee, soaps, jams etc. The best of the best!

Sydneyy · 10/01/2020 14:46

A massage at a spa that includes access to their pools. It would be a great way to spend an afternoon alone!

Don't waste it on books - libraries are free!

BrowncoatWaffles · 10/01/2020 14:49

I bought the most gorgeous purple jacket for £40 in the sale. I love it so much.

@IncrediblySadToo
There’s 2 adults, 2 children, 2 cats, 1 dog and 1 poor lonely fish lol it sounds a lot I guess but it isn’t really. Also - I tried to crochet, I am HORRENDOUS at it! I tried to do a square and it came out in a U shape Hmm I then tried knitting and got on with that a lot better but it took me forever to knit a piece that was no longer than my calf, so I gave up on that too haha. I’ve never had hobbies or interests really! I had my first child just after I turned 18 and due to circumstances I didn’t get time to find myself (sounds sickening lol) as a person before that, nor since! I used to love reading, could read a book in a day but feel like I just don’t have time any more. I get so stressed about time keeping and time running out that I often waste my time worrying about time Confused

I spent my Christmas money on an expensive pair of shoes. I found them on EBay, original cost was £200.

CakeandCustard28 · 10/01/2020 14:55

My Christmas money went on bills. 😂 Buy yourself the massage! I would.

Egghead68 · 10/01/2020 14:57

Nice day trip somewhere or meal out?

I spent my Christmas voucher stocking up on toothpaste and face-cream. A waste really.

OneTooManyBathtimes · 10/01/2020 14:59

Books. Or, seeing a chiropractor

Nonnymum · 10/01/2020 15:00

You sound as though you need to indulge yourself. If you can't think of any clothes you need or want. Go for that massage or facial. Is there a nice spa near you?if so see if it will run to a session in a steam room too.
Whatever you spend it on spend it on yourself.

OneKeyAtATime · 10/01/2020 15:00

On an outing or 'experience' (show, etc) for me

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 10/01/2020 15:05

Bananaman123 · 10/01/2020 15:12

A couple of nice shirts from asda, cheap as chips
New makeup (revolution is cheap enough to buy few bits)
Handbag from tk maxx (dune or carvela bags are about 40)
Nice skincare, the ordinary is reasonable
New makeup brushes, DUcare brushes are gorgeous and cheap www.ducarebeauty.com/collections/brushes-set?gclid=CjwKCAiA3uDwBRBFEiwA1VsajKoQTIAmnd6c03AVL7Eu0cfJ_GSV84JzW8Jc9HpP4YpnSPwthbNt5BoCuNUQAvD_BwE

Shoes.

violetgrey · 10/01/2020 15:14

If you can’t find a place for a massage, treat yourself to Neal’s Yard Arnica and Seaweed bath oil. It’s almost as relaxing as a massage. I always have a bottle in my bathroom and gave one as a gift to a friend with young children. She was raving about it. NYR have a sale on at the moment so you can get it cheaper.

OhNoMyCheds · 10/01/2020 15:15

I’d get my hair cut...

Whatsitthingy · 10/01/2020 15:17

Books. I would bob off to Waterstones or Foyles or Blackwells and get me some lovely books.

tiredsleepysleep · 10/01/2020 15:23

Luxury pedicure where you get foot massage, good file painted toenails. I do this. Couple of times a year, feels like a real treat.. especially in winter when no one can even see my feet!

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 10/01/2020 15:30

The last time I had a bit of spare cash I bought a bolt of teal cotton velvet and made a dress with some of it. I got it wholesale and in a sale, so it was about £40 and I've still got loads left. I'm a bit scared to cut into the rest of it though, there are only 10 metres left and I won't be able to replace it.
Other than fabric, I love trimmings and notions and was ridiculously happy when I got a bulk lot of buttons I got cheap on ebay. I'm never disappointed when I buy sewing things, because they have so much potential.

Sign up to the Calm app ( full version £10per month). Pure Luxury.

NeverTwerkNaked · 10/01/2020 15:33

Really lovely shower gel from l'occitane or similar, then it's like a little mini luxury each morning.

Or getting my nails or hair done as that always reminds me that I am allowed to be looked after too.

Or a trip to do something I really enjoy -ice skating or a concert or something

nevernotstruggling · 10/01/2020 15:34

Some foundation and concealer from Mac or similar

8feet12paws2fins · 10/01/2020 15:38

@Bananaman123, make up and new brushes is a good shout actually! The big revolution box set thing that has £100 worth of make up in is down to £20 now in my local b&m too....hmmm! This shouldn’t be so hard haha
@violetgrey, I’ve never had any neals yard stuff but when I was looking in to massages the nearest lady to me uses neals yard so I might look at the sale!

I spent ALL my Christmas money on books and I don’t regret it. I bloody love books.

If I was you I’d get a massage. I had never had one until my dp got me one as a birthday present. I was pregnant so I had the “mum to be top to toe something or other”
(Can’t use certain oils if pregnant I think)
My GOD it was the best hour ever. I’ve never felt so relaxed and pampered.
Although I think that was about £100 I’m not sure what the going rate for massage is ....
I second pp, spend it on YOU not something for the house. Something you wouldn’t normally spend that much on. New shoes maybe or fancy makeup
