To ask, if you had £40 to spend on yourself, what would you spend it on?

Hi everyone. So I have £40 left from my Christmas gift money! With the rest I got new cushions, curtains and some other house bits Hmm which is always the case tbh. Now I’m wondering what I should do with the last £40! Part of me wants clothes as I only get clothes twice a year - with Christmas money or birthday money, other than that I do love a good charity shop bargain BUT then other parts of me think about getting one or 2 more expensive items of clothing rather than cheaper bits at primark, or the really naughty part of me wants to just spend it on a massage as I’ve never had one and think it would be lovely to have a bit of relaxation time! Thoughts? Thanks 😊 (I don’t know if it matters but I’m 29 with 2 kids and don’t drink so won’t be having a night out with it or a bottle of gin lol)

If you want a massage, have you considered a massage machine? I get regular massages mainly due to an injury, and they are amazing, but I've bought one of these for in-between appointments. Honestly I've been blown away by how good it is!

Boireannachlaidir · 10/01/2020 22:17

I'd get a lovely make up palette in the sales either an Urban Decay or Anastasia Beverly Hills long lasting one or a gel nail lamp kit so I can pamper myself at home cheaply Smile

Or a fluffy jacket or nice ankle boots...

xsarax · 10/01/2020 22:37

I would buy myself a really expensive new lipstick 💄 nothing cheers me up more than a new lippy !

I think Harry and Meghan could learn a bit from reading this thread. Hope you enjoy spending what’s left of your Christmas money.

SynchroSwimmer · 10/01/2020 23:03

I would be eyeing up a bottle of Clarins Eau Dynamisante...and a little uplifting energising spray of it every day, but that’s just me...

wirelessprinter · 10/01/2020 23:09

I’d probably get a nice underwear set or some nightwear!

CharlotteMD · 11/01/2020 07:34

It's just £40 , fill the car with petrol .

littlebillie · 11/01/2020 07:43

I just bought some new make up from no 7 it's 25% off.

squeamishsquamish · 11/01/2020 07:59

Of course a skincare plan, if that's what you fancy! It's easy to stick to because it's simple. Brush teeth - clean face - slap on night-time moisturiser and under-eye cream - read kindle - turn off light - sleep.

£40 is a lot when you don't have anything spare to spend on yourself. OP explained her financial position and why this is such a big deal. Don't be that person.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 11/01/2020 08:01

I'd be putting it towards a new tattoo

StayDetermined · 11/01/2020 08:06

Books. I have a huge kindle books habit.
Yarn for my crochet hobby.
Or a coffee shop visit solo with a wander round a charity shop after!

bettertimesarecomingnow · 11/01/2020 08:08

Haircut or nails for me!

Elbeagle · 11/01/2020 08:08

Hmm but of course you are aware that £40 is a lot of money to someone who doesn’t have very much, and that it might be nice in that case to spend your Christmas money on a nice treat for yourself that you couldn’t normally afford?

Allyg1185 · 11/01/2020 08:21

I was lucky and got a fair bit of money for Christmas this year. I bought a new coat, some new gym leggings and a t-shirt, a cross stitch kit and a book

wintertime6 · 11/01/2020 08:27

With some of my Christmas money I bought a lovely diary in a faux leather zip up binder. It's just beautiful and has lots of different sections for me to keep track of things and make notes etc. I like to feel organised and have things written down. It feels like a real treat!

tangledyarn · 11/01/2020 08:36

If I were you I'd do something like..spend 20 on a lovely cosy jumper, another 15 on say a new book and some skincare and then use 5 to start a little savings pot that is just for you, that you could add a pound or two to when you can so that you can look forward to another something just for you in two or three months.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/01/2020 10:01

But the OP doesn't want to do that, she wants to spend it on a 'gift' for herself so why would you suggest that? Confused

8feet12paws2fins · 11/01/2020 10:09

@CharlotteMD putting petrol in the car is one of the things that come out of our normal bills and spending. Granted I can only afford to put petrol in week by week and not fill up and occasionally I drive a little too much on the red light Confused but as selfish as it may be, I don’t really want to use my last bit of money to fill the car up when I get by just fine with the petrol I have Smile
Cant drink proper coffee as I can’t have caffeine due to really sensitive ibs lol so a coffee shop trip is out of the question really, although I know places do decaf but it just doesn’t taste nice really, apart from Costa and I always feel like costa is too rich for my budget (my god I sound like such a scruff!).
@tangledyarn, as I said, if I saved any or had any kind of saving pot, it wouldn’t be saved, it would end up going towards something else unfortunately!
I THINK I’m going to get a nice toner and moisturiser, nothing too expensive but not my usual pound shop kind of things and maybe an item or 2 of new make up as I like trying looks out (and then wearing them around the house as I go nowhere Blush haha) and then maybe a nice T-shirt or something! I’m not set on it though and don’t know if I could do that in the budget but I’ve narrowed it down a bit now I think!

I always spend ages deciding on what to spend vouchers or Xmas money on as it's a gift and I want to get it right rather than just blow it.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 11/01/2020 11:24

Hairdresser! lol. Havent been for ages.

Happygirl79 · 11/01/2020 11:26

Ericveis · 11/01/2020 14:20

I just got return flights to Florence in Early May for £40.85

Boireannachlaidir · 11/01/2020 22:37

What a twattish thing to say @CharlotteMD

£40 will treat you to something nice OP, I hope you've got some inspiration here.
