'Whats the new website all about does it have a contact page for appearances'

Grin

Ugh it's all so tacky and cheesy isn't it sussexroyal.com/

Even though they seem very proud of losing the 5% sovereign grant there doesn't seem to be any comment on the other 95% that comes from Daddy's estate. Yes Duchy of Cornwall stuff is possibly 'private' funds but he only has it as he's the Prince Of Wales, surely the woke Sussexes won't want to be 'kept' by funds associated with royal duties.

Their website is a gushing load of bollocks.

I don't think it's related to duties carried out. The Prince of Wales has inherited that money because his ancestors were incredibly rich. If the whole Royal family resigned they would still have that money. Harry has also inherited money from Diana and Meghan presumably has money from her previous career. Basically they can afford to live without the day job and have consequently decided to drop it. Considering all the vitriol they get I don't blame them. I wouldn't carry on doing a job that gave me that much stress if I didn't need the money either. Who would?

LaurieMarlow · 09/01/2020 17:49

Yes, they have confirmed this.

They are giving up Duchy/CE funds.

PinkPieAtNight · 09/01/2020 17:54

'don't think it's related to duties carried out. The Prince of Wales has inherited that money because his ancestors were incredibly rich'

No, not duties carried out but the duchy of Cornwall is a royal thing.

It is of course different that they live off their own combined wealth from her career and Diana but it does seem a bit hypocritical to carry on taking 95% of their income from the Duchy of Cornwall estate. If they want financial independence they need to stop that for starters.

LIZS · 09/01/2020 17:54

Exactly, I don't buy that they need to "work" to finance the lifestyle. The inheritance will already be invested to generate a substantial income, they will continue to be given designer outfits, baby goods, cars etc just like others on the public eye, Harry has an army pension, "Suits" etc will continue to air and bring in fees and so on. To an extent what they want is what William and Kate had on Angelsey, although noone criticised them for hiding away.

PinkPieAtNight · 09/01/2020 17:55

'They are giving up Duchy/CE funds.'

Oh have they, I didn't see that I just saw the sovereign grant would be stopped. Is that on their site?

CopperAndGold · 09/01/2020 17:59

'Currently he receive 5% of his income from the state and 95% from Prince Charles inherited income of which he will also be inheriting a part and until then Prince Charles can do what he wants with his own inherited money.'

The Duchy of Cornwall will be Prince William's private income, no?

CopperAndGold · 09/01/2020 17:59

Messed up the bolding there.

LaurieMarlow · 09/01/2020 18:00

Is that on their site?

I believe so.

I read it in the mail (of all places)

Ylvamoon · 09/01/2020 18:13

I think the whole thing is a publicity stunt. You can't quit your family, it's who you are and where you come from. There is obviously some tension within the family. So the obvious thing to do is quit. The only real problem they have is their "commitment" to the Queen. Hence the "... while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen " But how long will they have to keep that up? Once she is gone, who will keep them all in check?
And then they can happily cash in on their Royal Connection with the Royal Sussex brand. After all, you can't just quit your family or deny who you are... not if you are a member of the British Royal Family in 2020.

Grinchly · 09/01/2020 18:17

I don't think they are Laurie. If that's what does happen they are rather scuppered if they want to maintain a transatlantic celeb lifestyle.

PinkPieAtNight · 09/01/2020 18:20

'I believe so'

I could only see they would decline the sovereign grant on their site. It'll all become clear I suppose in the coming days. As others have said online it is staggering that with a combined net worth of millions they would talk about working 'towards' financial independence.

I hope the Queen tells them to shut down their 'royal' site and they lose their HRH status. Maybe keep the Duke and Duchess.

Grinchly · 09/01/2020 18:20

The website is cringeworthy.

Devereux1 · 09/01/2020 18:22

The website is cringeworthy

It's staggering, isn't it? Every time I think they've lost the plot, they come out and do something even worse.

The narcissm is extreme. It truly just gets worse, and worse and worse.

Stroller15 · 09/01/2020 18:30

I agree with PP who read the website as only saying - in way too many words -
that they're giving up the 5% SG so they can do other work. Nothing about giving up the 95%.

Devereux1 · 09/01/2020 18:33

Nothing about giving up the 95%

I find the line on their website which talks about giving up the 5% from the Queen, but keeping the 95% from his Daddy as financial independence one of the most ridiculous and pitiful statements from a grown man that I have ever heard.

Lights are on, but there is nobody at home.

PinkPieAtNight · 09/01/2020 18:36

Yes the Mail link states they wont receive the sovereign/CE money but doesn't say if they'll decline Duchy of Cornwall cash too.

'The website is cringeworthy.'

It is isn't it. It's like The Tig but a VIP version. There'll maybe be inspirational quotes and recipes too.

MrsJoshNavidi · 09/01/2020 18:38

The best way to break the chains is for him to renounce his and Archie's places in the line of succession.

God forbid the Cambridge's are all involved in a plane crash and Harry and Archie become the direct line of succession.

Mrsjayy · 09/01/2020 18:40

That Sussex Royal website is a pile of pish totally hilarious Grin

scaryteacher · 09/01/2020 18:44

Lizs The RAF sent William to Anglesey to do SAR. Kate went with him No-one criticised as he was a serviceman doing his job, like lots of others.

Grinchly · 09/01/2020 18:50

The Tig but a VIP version
^^ This!

Maybe we'll be treated to 'When life hands you lemons set up a lemonade stall' in flowing calligraphy shortly.

Also, call me old fashioned and I probably am, but the talk of 'collaboration' with HMQ was just ShockShockShock

And the disdainful talk of 'this institution ' and being 'progressive'.

Tone deaf, arrogant, disrespectful and stupid.

Very stupid as they will need to negotiate a way out of this mess, now they unaccountably decided to press send after The Sun exclusive.

That could have been crisis managed, had they wanted it to be.

Al1cewith2020vision · 09/01/2020 18:59

I guess Meg's attempts to modernise the royal family didn't work out too well.

Their website is going to be a copy of the Gwyneth Paltrow one isn't it?

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 09/01/2020 18:59

Income from the Duchy of Cornwall is used to support the Prince of Wales who is also the Duke of Cornwall. When William inherits the title he gets everything, it can't be shared. The income will then be his to dispose of at his will until it passes to George. Charles uses it to support his children not his siblings, which is why Andrew etc who can't live off the measly few hundred thousand the Queen gives them are always up to no good. William will probably do the same as he is under no obligation to support his estranged brother, so as soon as Charles or the Queen dies Harry loses his £2m a year "allowance".

isadoradancing123 · 09/01/2020 19:03

Why do the british public put up with this nonsence, if they want to go, then go, but forget the perks, and why on earth should their security be funded from the oublic purse
