I agree about catherine she is going to be Queen one day she lives her private life private and that is ok, although she sounds posher than the actual Queen Smile

annualleavepurchase · 11/01/2020 12:12

1) a baby maker

Don't you mean, a mother?

Cornettoninja · 11/01/2020 12:16

@BonnesVacances excellent post and I completely agree.

I didn’t realise how fine the line between speculation and outright unpleasantness was tbh.

The80sweregreat · 11/01/2020 12:17

Lots of people trade in on the family names: celebrities do it all the time and it's always ' who you know ' rather than what you know half the time in this life. Unfair but that will never change.
none of what they are planning is new ; it's just new to the Royals in such a transparent way! At least they are being upfront about how it might work. If nobody is interested in them and it fails to take off , they will have to think up some thing else to earn money. My bet is she will be courted more than him to start with as the acting jobs and voiceovers is something she can do. He'll have to find his own niche in life over there.
It's been handled badly to start with , but it might work out who knows?

Mintlegs · 11/01/2020 12:19

Absolutely agree. I am sure it was made more than clear to Megan the responsibility of the role and what she was undertaking especially after what happened to Harry’s mum. I am deeply disappointed. A couple of quitters, indeed they want their cake and eat it. Money and power, it will be their downfall in terms of relationship in about 8 years....

AraGrand · 11/01/2020 12:19

1) a baby maker
2) a clothes horse
3) a nice, docile presence who does what she’s told

And they say Meghan gets negative opinions!

WineOrGinOrBoth · 11/01/2020 12:42

Quite.

HepzibahGreen · 11/01/2020 16:25

That stuff at Canada house was a bit odd. I have never followed the royals and as far as I could see Meghan was a pretty woman who wore nice clothes and good luck to them. However, having watched some of the clips and stuff, especially the show of "thanking" Canada, it all seemed very staged.
It put me in mind of when Nicole Kidman got her divorce thru from famous heterosexual Tom Cruise after their 10 year contract marriage. GrinDeeply strange.
I have no idea what either of them are really like but it does seem obvious that they could easily have said "we want a low key life", had a small wedding, started their family and headed up a few charities. Or just become private citizens; he could have carried on doing charity stuff and she could have gone back to acting, or producing maybe?

All of this seems to be ensuring maximum press and maximum drama. It really was all completely unnessecary. Yes, Harry was a very eligible bachelor, and yes the press were gonna froth for a while that he didn't marry an English girl, but if H and M had kept their heads down, it would have blown over.
They are either very daft or very narcissistic.

Mrsjayy · 11/01/2020 16:46

They are either very daft or very narcissistic

Bit of both methinks

caperberries · 11/01/2020 17:20

They are desperate attention but can’t cope with criticism. As such, they are doomed to unhappiness

DuchessofWoke · 11/01/2020 17:42

It was actually incredibly passive aggressive and such an insult to the British people.

Mrsjayy · 11/01/2020 17:49

I wonder when the deal will be announced ?

NoCountry · 11/01/2020 17:57

They are desperate attention but can’t cope with criticism. As such, they are doomed to unhappiness

Yes, that's a very toxic mix. And the view that anything short of total admiration counts as criticism guarantees a constant state of resentment

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 11/01/2020 18:32

Who,was it that said that the only thing worse than bad press was no press?

ChristmasSweet · 11/01/2020 20:06

She's getting back into acting quicker than I thought. Thought she'd at least wait a few months. Least the money is going to a charity.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/01/2020 20:29

Maybe best not to assume too much, ChristmasSweet ... it's been given out that the voiceover was done in return for a charity donation, but that in no way precludes a payment having been made to her as well

ChristmasSweet · 11/01/2020 22:59

Very true Puzzled. Hopefully it's all going to charity then. Smile

Amanduh · 11/01/2020 23:05

Just watched the video of Harry and Meghan on the red carpet of the Lion King premiere, and Harry - in his Royal capacity - asking the the director for the voiceover job for Meghan! What the hell..? How embarrassing! What was he thinking?

FarTooSkinny · 11/01/2020 23:12

What is the point of cake if you are not going to eat it?

beanaseireann · 12/01/2020 13:10

Actually FarTooSkinny I do agree it's a silly saying.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 12/01/2020 13:35

But once you've eaten it, you no longer have it, it's gone.

I think it's a centuries old phrase which today would more easily read you can't have your cake and eat it too.

JulietJanuary · 12/01/2020 14:37

Or you can't keep your cake and eat it too.
