See link. News just announced.

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2020/01/08/prince-harry-meghan-step-back-senior-members-royal-family-couple/

It does sound like they might be escaping from the public scrutiny and online abuse.

OP posts:
DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 08/01/2020 21:58

Brilliant, good for them! Wish them every happiness

ZiggyB · 08/01/2020 21:58

Best of luck to them. The vile comments on this thread are exactly the reason they are off.

Why so much hate? It shows the darker side of human nature for sure.

PortiaCastis · 08/01/2020 21:59

I think this is the night when H&M are proved correct, the nasty slanderous bitching is what's driving them away and nobody can take the amount of abuse that is spewed with venom that's directed at them. The proof is in the reading

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 22:00

Shocker it’s THE headline in the 10 o Clock news and was also in time for the papers tomorrow.

Leflic · 08/01/2020 22:00

Totally fail to see why anyone feels sorry for them They have millions in the back, the ear of the most influential people in the world, fabulously rich friends and can pick and chose work and where to live.

ZiggyB · 08/01/2020 22:00

Exactly

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 22:01

Why would they want to do this to the Queen though?

BP have clearly been blind sided by their statement.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 08/01/2020 22:01

BBC news have just stated the Queen was not aware this statement would be made and senior Royals are 'hurt'.

1forsorrow · 08/01/2020 22:01

Rude not to tell the Queen before they announced it.

PortiaCastis · 08/01/2020 22:03

Did the Queen send the bbc a memo if not how the hell do they know who said what and when

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 08/01/2020 22:03

@DuchessofWoke If she is fame-hungry, etc., isn't it better that they're stepping down? There's no point being "senior royals" if you're not going to/ don't want to do the required job. They can come over here and act like American celebs!

ZiggyB · 08/01/2020 22:03

Shocking reading these comments. Wonder who will be your next victims.

Mummy195 · 08/01/2020 22:05

The RF is fucked !

When PC said he would streamline, he did not mean H&M because he can see they are willing workhorses.
They have never had any problems with the charities and promoting them, but this did want some down time like any human who is not a slave where they go home at the end of the day. They are not afraid of work obviously.

Basically now William will be left with Duchess Dolittle, as she goes on with her endless maternity leaves. Anne and Sophie will be getting on with age, so no one to support him. Him and Kate have been so lazy, that now he realises how much PC was doing, he must be shaking in his boots. But all along his pride and petulance meant he kept throwing his brother under the bus all along. Well good luck to him.

However, The Sussex star will now shine brighter than ever, to supernova as they join the likes of Bill Gates, Oprah etc. in making some world chasing charities and philanthropy .

They are not picking and choosing what they want, but they did dedicate a lot of time to their charities and don't want to leave them hanging, hence the "moving into' independence thing.

While backwards pp try to see some negative in this, H &M seem to bee looking out for their charities first and foremost.

QueenofDestruction · 08/01/2020 22:06

I think that they simply can't have it both ways, especially if they made the announcement without informing their funders, so I work for The family firm a e without telling The CEO I have decided to keep my futile but not responsibilities and I will no longer come into The office much but still want my salary and benefuts. The behaviour comes across very teenageish. You can't have things both eays. I have to work if I want my full salary.

I am not happy about the working towards financial independence and the fact they made the announcement without talking to those in control of those means. I would fully respect them if they went fully financially independent and withdrew from royal life the way Anne has managed for her children. I think they have behaved terribly and cannot get over their complaints on a trip to South Africa about how hard they have things that was emotionally vapid. I have worked in fEW and done charity work there and theirs are people dying because they can't afford medicine and/or food to to me that was a Marie Antoinette moment.

To be honest they do disappoint me with their behaviour because they had such potential but to a degree have acted and continue to act like entitled brats. Yes, Meghan has been treated appallingly at times but she has had a chance to help others that are treated badly and don't have her wealth of protection. Some footballers have had racist chants shouted at them and continue to play. She could have Vera great role model but she has turned into her husband's,s spoilt, entitled sidekick who both expect the best of both worlds who both want all the benefits but none of the hard work and difficulties of being a royal. It's not like they would not have enough money and gumption to make it without using the royal family but I'll until they actually get some emotional intelligence they should stay away from charity work. I

I mean making a public announcement about their difficult live when doing charity in a country where suffering is about surviving, moaning about climate change whilst happily jetting off. It just shows such a thoughtless and superior attitude. Howver, this is their actions as a couple and Meghan should not be singled out as Harry is the one with more experience in regards to Royal life but both their behaviour is Narcissistic .

LuluJakey1 · 08/01/2020 22:07

When William and Harry were born, the Queen and Prince Phillip set up trust funds for them, as they did all their grandchildren. In addition they each inherited about £12 million when Diana died, and were left money in trust funds from the Queen Mother.
Megan is reputed to be worth over £10 million from Suits and her blog and publicity stuff.
They are hardly short of cash.
I think the only people the Royal Family who should have HRH titles are the monarch, the heir and the heir's first child ie theQueen, Charles and William - and George when the time comes. Give the monarch's other children a titles eg Princess Charlotte or Earl of Wessex but it hsould not be hereditary.
If they work full-time for the Royal Family- and I mean full-time- the monarch can pay them a reasonable salary from the money he/she receives from the Duchy of Lancaster. The rest can find their own way in life and support themselves.
No one except the monarch, heir and his/her heir should live on Royal estates that belong to the crown. We have just spent almost £3million of the profits from the Duchy of Lancaster- which would otherwise have gone to the State- on refurbishing Frogmore Cottage for this pair.
Harry also receives about £6 million in living and staffing expenses a year from the Duchy of Cornwall and the pair of them have 6 full-time bodyguards from the Met on duty at all times, earning £10,000+ each. I hope all of that stops. It is ludicrous.
I am happy for them to go and live somewhere else as long as we are paying nothing for them. I, for one, will not be contributing to any charity that pays either of these two a salary.
I think they are a self-centred thoughtless pair- keen to tell us all what is important whilst they expect to live without comment or scrutiny.
I feel rather sorry for the Queen and Charles.

QueenofDestruction · 08/01/2020 22:08

Gunn predictive text changed things. Sorry I meant keep you title but not your responsibilities

Mummy195 · 08/01/2020 22:08

It's also written on the statement that after consultation with QE, PC, PW etc, so why are people going on about the queen not knowing?

QueenofDestruction · 08/01/2020 22:09

Ugh not Gunn - I swear I am being ridiculed by my tablet

CoolShoeshine · 08/01/2020 22:12

Yes they have a right to happiness but they’re naive - they’ve just been on a 6 week holiday (who in reality actually gets to do that??) and like a pair of Shirley Valentines they don’t want to go back to boring normal life.
So what’s the alternative? A new life across continents (erm what sort of real job will actually allow that??), independence (but still needing taxpayers money for life, essential for their own security), earning their own money (but only through their Royal name/connections). They’re living in a dream if they think it will actually happen but if it does good luck to them.

RollingOutofBed · 08/01/2020 22:12

It's also written on the statement that after consultation with QE, PC, PW etc, so why are people going on about the queen not knowing?

Where does it say that? I see "We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. but not that. It isn't the same thing.

bluemoon19 · 08/01/2020 22:13

Best of luck to them. The vile comments on this thread are exactly the reason they are off.

Nonsense, they’re off because at last people are starting to see through them. Probably the queen has told them to go......to preserve the monarchy probably. How convenient to blame the people when everything is of their own doing. I doubt they’re even still together. They do a lot of photoshopping. How more people can’t see through them is shocking.

VestaTilley · 08/01/2020 22:13

Appalling of them not to let the Queen know first. A rash decision to quit which I'm sure Harry will come to regret.

AvaSnowdrop · 08/01/2020 22:14

Basically Meghan wants to be a celebrity and has found out that she can’t be in the RF and be a celeb as well. She gets criticised for being ostentatious and spending too much, she can’t accept gifts and freebies, she can’t be on the telly or make money from advertisements, she has to be respectable and discreet and not outspoken, she’s expected to socialise with aristocrats not celebs, etc. Leaving the RF means she can spend and advertise and attend celeb events and sell her soul as much as she wants.

The other issue is that she’s probably realised that she’s already on the fringes of the RF and being a celeb is the only alternative to a slow decline into obscurity for herself, Harry and their DC.

meredithgrey1 · 08/01/2020 22:16

I doubt they’re even still together. They do a lot of photoshopping

Hmm some of the comments on this thread are insane.

LaurieMarlow · 08/01/2020 22:16

she has to be respectable

Dying laughing at the idea of the RF being more ‘respectable’ than anyone really.

Is it her dear uncle in law you’re basing this on Confused
