See link. News just announced.

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2020/01/08/prince-harry-meghan-step-back-senior-members-royal-family-couple/

It does sound like they might be escaping from the public scrutiny and online abuse.

Jenzenn I don't think anyone has an issue with allowing him to fuck off if he wants. The issue is that he isn't actually fucking off and the way he's gone about saying they want to half fuck off but still want a load of financial support from the country, the ability to flog cheap tat as expensive merchandise trading on their royal names and speak on issues (which then makes it very tricky for them to go and represent the Queen on anything as she has to remain unpolitical, publicly).

If he had announced, formally, not by Instagram, that he and Meghan had decided to relinquish their titles and live as private citizens a lot of us WOULD have said "good for you, don't blame you, good luck to you". But that's not what's going on here at all.

Lordfrontpaw · 10/01/2020 08:11

That website would have taken weeks to get up and running. This must have been in their minds for a while. The very long holiday was probably - I assume - getting a house together.

Didn’t any of the family twig something was afoot when they came back from holiday without the baby?

Jenzenn · 10/01/2020 08:13

But it doesn’t matter what they do, it’s never right. There’s no rhyme nor reason to it. Its harassment, like it was with Diana.

FeckOffGraham · 10/01/2020 08:13

People should be supported when they clearly need it. Rich, poor, whoever.

Yes, they should, but the difference between him being allowed a huge salary for no work because of a personal tragedy, which was obviously terrible, compared to what we peasants get is frankly disgusting. If that is indeed what is happening. I don't think he has made this argument, but the person you posted a screenshot of did.

I still really like MM. She isn't a royal. She, like me, isn't even from the UK. I see why she doesn't want to be part of it, but I am quickly losing sympathy with Harry I'm afraid. Sad as some of his past is.

Devereux1 · 10/01/2020 08:14

They registered it and started planning this pantomine of faux victimhood 10 MONTHS ago.

Lordfrontpaw · 10/01/2020 08:16

And they will get attention wherever they go and if they are trying to earn their own crust then it will be even more ‘open’. I’m sure they are buffeted from the numbers of ‘ordinary’ people that they meet - on a daily basis I meet colleagues, suppliers, coffee shop staff, waiters (if our at a business lunch)... sometimes I’m in a list mood or grumpy but at least it won’t be front page news on the national enquirer ‘trouble in paradise - is Lord and lady Paw’s marriage in the rocks??’ ‘Is Paw gonna be a mamma? Baby bump says yes!’ ‘Jesus Paw looks a state today - has she lost her hairbrush and is divorce on the cards???’

Lordfrontpaw · 10/01/2020 08:20

‘Paws in stained jeans shock - did she know there was shreddies stuck to her backside?’ ‘Paw shreddies diet’ ‘paw sponsorship deal with cereal manufacturer’ ‘paws shreddies recipe book/blog’...

MissEliza · 10/01/2020 08:21

Being allowed a huge salary because of a personal tragedy Over the last few years, I have seen a number of children lose their parents in our local community, usually from cancer. Yes these children did not have to be paraded in public to satisfy the country but the practical and financial consequences of losing a parent are huge. It's actually starring to grate on me that people still think losing his mum is a reason to go soft on Harry when I compare the massive support he got to the children I know Sad

Lordfrontpaw · 10/01/2020 08:28

My grandma lost her mum when she was little under very tragic circumstances and her life got worse when her horrible dad married her awful stepmum.

Babies are being born into slavery right now, girl babies are being murdered at birth or buried alive (or live to be married off at tender age), kids are being taken and made to fight, people are starving...

I know you can’t compare lives but count your blessings and look forward and look to the people around you (not just those under your nose) and see how you can help them.

This is a very good point. His mother died 23 years ago, the man is now 35 years old, he has had every possible comfort, support and therapy available to man, and has not had to face even a fraction of hardship and upheaval that most children who lose a parent have to face.

He's been a playboy and a tantrum-filled spoiled brat his whole life. Everyone pandered to him and the RF should have reined him in earlier. The past few years he has taken it all to a new level and this is the result.

Remove their titles, remove the money and cut the ties.

crispysausagerolls · 10/01/2020 08:35

@ShatnersWig

Perfectly put.

ShatnersWig · 10/01/2020 08:41

And you can bet they won't have their HRH removed because of all the shit heaped on the Firm when they removed Diana's HRH.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 10/01/2020 08:44

For me,, the crux is that they will be still living off the taxpayer.

There are children tonight (lots) who will be in temporary accommodation, homeless. Yet H&M will still be able to enjoy their luxurious home furnished by the British tax payer.

They still want police to guard them.

Yes Harry had a terrible thing happen to him but he is not in isolation. And most people do not have access to the same resources as he had.

They may argue that they give back to charity. But the UK does not need that, they need strong public services so that charities are not left to pick up the pieces.

ferrier · 10/01/2020 09:01

I'm astonished that people think this is racism. Really? She barely even looks mixed race. Much more likely to be a combination of classism, her being a divorcee and not behaving in a conventional way, in my opinion. Oh ... and sour grapes that Harry is no longer the eligible bachelor.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 10/01/2020 09:02

@ShatnersWig - well said.

MarshaBradyo · 10/01/2020 09:12

ShatnersWig pretty much summed it up.

I wonder if it feels like a runaway train, it’s very hard to direct the media no matter what arrangement you have and generally when you shut doors, ie the rota, you get backlash.

LillianGish · 10/01/2020 09:16

I see an international custody battle looming in a couple of years - I completely agree with this. Harry is falling over himself to make sure what Meghan wants Meghan gets to try and avoid one, she is busily trying to position the family in Canada so she will be in a strong position if it does eventually come to that.

DuchessofWoke · 10/01/2020 09:17

This thread is almost full. Is anyone able to create a new one and link to it here?

CondeNasty · 10/01/2020 09:54

I don't think the registering of their website however long ago is necessarily a sign of them planning this for months. In fact it is pretty poor practise that it wasnt registered at the same time as the social media accounts. Even if you have no plan to use it it stops anyone else being able to register it. Same goes for trade marking, it does not definitely mean they are intending to sell merchandise, just a way of preventing others from doing so.

CondeNasty · 10/01/2020 10:04

In fact a quick search shows that the Cambridges also have trademarks registered for things like clothing and headgear also. Are we going to get frothing about them producing 'merch' too?

MarshaBradyo · 10/01/2020 10:05

I was just going to ask if Cambridge’s have done the same. Fair point then imo.

Lordfrontpaw · 10/01/2020 10:19

Would they necessarily get Canadian citizenship (can you just rock up abroad for chunks of the year on a regular baisis with it citizenships - where do you pay tax, register the kids for school, etc?)?

astralweaks · 10/01/2020 10:27

Haven’t read the recent posts in this thread but two comments struck me from amongst the barrage of news online, today:

  1. “One of the triggers, it appears, was the release over Christmas of a new portrait of the Queen with her immediate heirs – Charles, William and George – and the focus on them in her annual address to the nation.”
  1. “To put out a statement to say they are collaborating with the Queen. Who in the world says that? You are not equal to the Queen, everyone in the family knows their place… except, it seems, them.'”

Quite unbelievable.

JulietJanuary · 10/01/2020 10:29

Registering trademarks is often defensive, ie to stop others doing it!
