See link. News just announced.

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2020/01/08/prince-harry-meghan-step-back-senior-members-royal-family-couple/

It does sound like they might be escaping from the public scrutiny and online abuse.

How could she stop them taking Archie

Beheading them?

Bobleywobley · 09/01/2020 20:50

Can anyone link to any of these racist articles in the UK press? I've seen no evidence of racism. I really dont think thats the reason they are getting stick.

annualleavepurchase · 09/01/2020 20:52

Tbf there's some ancient law they I think means the queen is the legal guardian of minor royals. Archie doesn't have a royal title though so it probably doesn't extend to him.
Back in the real world, why the hell would the queen even consider it 😂

MrsBrentford · 09/01/2020 20:52

I think she should have conformed for a few years and then, once she had national Treasure status (say like Kate) she could have made waves.

Babybel90 · 09/01/2020 20:53

How could she stop them taking Archie?!

I believe there is some old law that technically the monarch has parental responsibility for the children of her descendants but I doubt very much that she would invoke it in any but the most serious circumstances, it’s would hardly make for good PR if she removed an infant from it’s parents over a spat!

lyralalala · 09/01/2020 20:56

The Queen isn’t going to get involved over Archie

If something hideous happened to William and Kate wanted to take him off to the other side of the world to live as George Middleton then we might see it

Not a chance she’ll risk testing out if that old rule will hold in court over Archie

That said - Archie using no title is nothing to do with that. He’s still in the line of succession (he’ll stay there if Harry rules himself out, similar to how Prince Michael of Kent was out for years for marrying a catholic, but his children were still in) and he’ll still be entitled to use the title HRH Prince Archie when his grandfather becomes King.

Ah ok. Well there goes the Sussex's plan to raise him as a private citizen.

scaryteacher · 09/01/2020 21:01

It is a serious question...he is seventh in the line of succession, and iirc, when there was talk of Diana taking William and Harry to live abroad, it was mooted that the Queen has legal control of the heirs who are minors.

annualleavepurchase · 09/01/2020 21:05

@scaryteacher do you really think the Queen would attempt to stop a baby who is 7th in line to the throne going with its parents? What good would that do the royal family?

Comparing this to Diana taking William (who will be king) away from the family (including his own father) is like comparing apples and oranges.

Rinoachicken · 09/01/2020 21:07

Archie is 7th - William were 3rd and 4th!

WineOrGinOrBoth · 09/01/2020 21:08

Didn’t Catherine the Great take her grandsons to live with her as she didn’t get on with her son & heir? She left the daughters with the parents though.

lyralalala · 09/01/2020 21:08

Ah ok. Well there goes the Sussex's plan to raise him as a private citizen.

They can to an extent.

Edward and Sophie’s kids are legally entitled to be HRH Princess Louise and HRH Prince James, but they don’t by agreement

My point about Archie’s lack of title was more that it doesn’t change his legal standing as a descendant of the Queen. He is going to be the grandson of the King so the royal rigamarole still applies to him regardless of his name

Dongdingdong · 09/01/2020 21:09

Interesting hearing atom Bradby(friend to William and Harry) on ITV news. He said M&H had heard about streamlining the firm while they were away and decided to find a way out.

Really? It’s been well known for years that Charles intends to streamline the royal family when he becomes king Confused

scaryteacher · 09/01/2020 21:21

@annualleavepurchase This is presumably one of the things that needs to be worked out. The Queen has to protect the institution.

Butterymuffin · 09/01/2020 21:23

This is the issue with all the things the Queen apparently has the power to do - would she, really? To take any of these tactics to the extreme would involve a court case and she knows that would be worse and might well lead to the Sussexes doing what they want to anyway.

MrsBrentford · 09/01/2020 21:25

Pre nups may be the way forward for the Royals and Legal code of conduct 😂😂

lyralalala · 09/01/2020 21:34

Pre-nups have always been standard for royals

That’s why Harry not having one was big news

It usually involves things like where children will live in the event of divorce

crestedrobin · 09/01/2020 21:37

Poor little Archie, wonder where in the world he is.

Junie70 · 09/01/2020 21:37

Their sincere hope is that this change in media policy will enhance access and give The Duke and Duchess the ability to share information more freely with members of the public

Exactly how does this tie in with quitting public life??

MrsBrentford · 09/01/2020 21:37

Erm really? Diana and Charles didn’t have one, neither did Andy and Fergie or Anne and Mark Phillips oh or Princess Margaret ......

MistyMinge2 · 09/01/2020 21:39

Good for them

MrsBrentford · 09/01/2020 21:40

I am replying to the prenups conment

Butterymuffin · 09/01/2020 21:41

Archie isn't a worry. He's with his loving parents which is the only issue for a child that age. The one advantage of this all happening now is that he'll grow up not knowing any different.

crestedrobin · 09/01/2020 21:55

Ok.Confused

WineOrGinOrBoth · 09/01/2020 21:58

So Meghan is NC with some of her family. Harry will be soon as well. How sad.
