See link. News just announced.

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2020/01/08/prince-harry-meghan-step-back-senior-members-royal-family-couple/

It does sound like they might be escaping from the public scrutiny and online abuse.

Honestly, looking at how Fergie earns her money, it's all a but grubby really, isn't it? I suspect the Sussexes will once again realise that they can't control the way the world works and will find it harder than they think to earn enough money to keep them in the way they want to live.

It will be interesting to see how all this plays out.

Iambloodystarving · 09/01/2020 04:32

A picture was run showing a gun pointing at his head and calling him a race traitor. He now has a son. I couldn't. Could you?

British tabloids should be ashamed.

Some British people should be ashamed.

His family should be ashamed.

These two have seemed very vulnerable for a long time.

Brits have a really perverse relationship with anyone who marries in to the Royal family. The Beatles as well for that matter! Grin Grin

Good luck to them - I hope they have a nice life.

What? Was this picture really in a british tabloid?!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 09/01/2020 04:40

So much for them not wanting to be criticised by the press.

Thé pair of them are so thin skinned.
They just want to control the narrative and cash in.
( I do however see the monetising bit coming from Meghan)
Harry has no clue what it’s like to be poor. Meghan, although from a comfortable background, has always hustled to become wealthier.

Talk about loose canons.
This is up there with Diana doing the 1996 interview with Martin
«There were 3 of us in this marriage so it was a bit crowded»

I bet there’ll be some resignations from their UK team, who were completely kept in the dark.
They are so arrogant and out of touch.

I think Charles will fund them for now; but only if they adhere to strict conditions. (Well this is me hoping).

They are a pair of greedy idiots.
They’ve just come back from holiday and could have gone on and done good work, but they’ve just spent that trip figuring out how to cash in even more.
Entitled much?

Harry and Meghan resigning?
AmIbeingTreasonable · 09/01/2020 04:43

It's laughable how these 2 think they can dictate what they will and won't do and what they will and won't give up! 🤣🤣🤣

JolieOBrien · 09/01/2020 04:53

I am not at all surprised I could tell she hated doing the job but being an actress she hid it well. I now expect them to become like the Beckhams and she will start some kind of fashion chain online .... I might be wrong but she will use the fact she is married to a prince to launch some kind of business.

Iambloodystarving · 09/01/2020 04:55

FromEden - not in a tabloid no but the frenzy around them (her in particular) helped fuel things like that. The person responsible was arrested but seriously, imagine him, with his history seeing that. Imagine her seeing that. Put a baby in the mix...

APickle · 09/01/2020 04:58

All the best to them! I hope they can find some peace of mind away from the truely awful, unfair, and racist abuse. Who can blame or criticise them for needing to step back?

Honeybee85 · 09/01/2020 05:11

I’m not surprised about this.
And I have to say, I respect them for their aim to be financially independent.

However, I do wonder how much of this was actually Harry’s idea and for how long he will be happy in this new life style...

Antibles · 09/01/2020 05:25

One could live a very low profile life in a pleasant backwater somewhere on several million pounds and perhaps just donate anonymously to existing charities.

I don't get the impression that's the plan though.

AzraiL · 09/01/2020 05:43

They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

AJPTaylor · 09/01/2020 06:04

He never chose to be royal. Poor sod. Nobody would choose that. They are worth 30m so presumably are already financially independent. One also assumes that the royal family could keep them quite comfortably without the public purse.
The press have been vile to MM. I don't blame him or them.

makingmammaries · 09/01/2020 06:07

If they want to come out of this with any integrity they should give up their titles. Or was the title the only bit of the deal Meghan wanted, maybe?

Pixxie7 · 09/01/2020 06:11

Just. Heard the. News saying that when they are in the uk they expect to stay in Frogmore cottage, so basically it would appear that they want to pick and choose which parts of being royal they want. This is so wrong on so many levels.
If they want to be financial independence then they should at least be paying rent and reimburse some of the 2 million it cost to renovate surely.

SaphfireRose · 09/01/2020 06:12

See, the problem I and others have, @Ladybirdbookworm is that there is never any real reasons or arguments based on facts that are put forward to hate her. You said Also I so wanted to like her but the way she gushed over Harry at their engagement photo shoot made me cringe.

So, an in love woman gushed over her fiance at their engagement photo shoot.

And....? Of all the odd, random things to dislike her for. It is completely normal for her to gush over her fiance! I would be concerned if she wasn't. I don't understand how being happy and in love and a bit gushing is somehow a ....bad thing? If it is, I'd say 99% of the population are 'cringeworthy' and bad.

The none appearance at the Lindo wing was a bad move
Edward's Sophie didn't appear on the steps. Neither did Fergie. Only has Diana, and Kate. That is because they were married to people directly in line to the throne. It is not the done thing for the Meghans or the Sophies or the Fergies to do that.

MaxPaddyandHarry · 09/01/2020 06:26

I am happy for them. In most families there are relatives who went to other countries for a better life. I have two friends who have both children abroad in different countries.
I think the 'but they're Royal' thing is overplayed.
If we want a slimmed down monarchy, which seems to be what the Queen and Prince Charles are aiming for why shouldn't the Sussexes strike out on their own.

stuffedpeppers · 09/01/2020 06:31

The person I feel sorry for is William. He will be King without the support of his family.
The Queen had Margaret
Prince Charles - will always have Anne and Edward - Andrew in the back ground
William has lost his wingman

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 09/01/2020 06:36

Good for them.

bubblesforlife · 09/01/2020 06:49

@comberbird I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, in a respectful manner.

whittingtonmum · 09/01/2020 06:49

If they want to quit they should quit. But they are not quitting properly. They want to stay royals - just not senior ones and basically not do the job but keep the perks.

In real life it doesn't work that way. But they are so far removed from real life and understanding their own privilege no wonder they feel so entitled. To think you need to work towards financial independence if you already own many tens of millions is bizarre. I guess it shows you what a life style they must have if they think they can't- yet - afford it.

Whatever they want to do next - good luck to them. As long as it doesn't cost us. We have hospitals, schools etc to fund. We should not spare public funds for royals who don't intend to work for it.

MsPepperPotts · 09/01/2020 06:51

Good for them.
I am glad they have decided to leave the hate filled country.

malylis · 09/01/2020 06:52

"They don't live in the real world" is the funniest comment I've heard made here.

No shit?

BayandBlonde · 09/01/2020 06:54

So apparently the Queen knew nothing about the announcement. If that is the case Harry and Meghan have totally discredited the Queen and basically said Fuck You!

Whatsitthingy · 09/01/2020 06:55

The vitriol in some of these comments should make it obvious to everyone why they have decided to go down this path... good luck to them both...

bathsh3ba · 09/01/2020 06:57

I think it's an incredibly naive statement and they won't get quite what they are hoping for, which seems as previous posters have said, to be to keep the royal perks and ditch the royal responsibilities. Really, they should step back completely and renounce their titles if a private life is what they want.
