See link. News just announced.

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2020/01/08/prince-harry-meghan-step-back-senior-members-royal-family-couple/

It does sound like they might be escaping from the public scrutiny and online abuse.

Why is every criticism taken as racism? My sister thinks everyone who doesn't like her is racist. When she has been fired she claims it's racism. Forget the fact she is always late and irresponsible. I lecture dc about the importance of knowing that while some people won''t like you because of your skin, some won't like you for a myriad of other reasons. Some valid, some not. Not everything is racism. I didn't like Princess Diana does that make me a racist?

Josette77 · 08/01/2020 23:25

How is William not a family man?

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 23:27

Isn’t it also Kate’s birthday tomorrow, gotta give it to them for their timing.

I bet Zara Tindell is delighted Grin

IdiotInDisguise · 08/01/2020 23:27

Yes, how is he not? The guy had an affair but has a family, ergo family man Hmm

tillytrotter1 · 08/01/2020 23:27

Its laughable how ignorant and judgemental these threads are.

Can one assume that you refer only to the posts with which you disagree? The posts with which you agree are well-informed and non-judegemental then?

What’s with the fucking eye roll

Not replying to this comment, but my eyes are rolling down the bloody street, hotwiring a truck and crossing the county fucking line reading the vicious, dense, misogynistic bollocks throughout this thread.

Jesus.

Zara is presumably saving up for her speeding fine! Naughty girl!

To be fair most of us don’t care what colour she is or what she identifies as. We would just prefer it if she and Harry could show some respect instead of scurrying off. Do you know: don’t read the press if you don’t like it. It’s not obligatory to do so.

OMG! I've never been interested in the royal family, but even I can see how shittily Meghan Markle has been treated. The way people obsess over her must have driven her crazy. For the first time ever, I actually wish a royal couple well!! I hope her and Harry get away from everyone and have a nice life away from all the stalk-y wierdness.

elmosducks · 08/01/2020 23:38
Shock
ElizaCBennett · 08/01/2020 23:39

There is no role for the younger sibling of the heir to the heir of the throne. Princess Margaret struggled terribly with this; I think it’s a great idea for them to be ploughing their own furrow.

At the end of the day they are a young family with a life to lead the way they want, just like we all do.

I have nothing against them, wish them and Archie all the best. They are doing what they feel is best for their family. This is clearly unprecedented and the palace are going to have to work something out because no one is going to be happy with them carving out a part time sleb, part time royal role.

What is sad is that I feel clearly there is a significant and growing rift between 2 brothers, and that is sad.

tillytrotter1 · 08/01/2020 23:41

The Buckingham palace statement is very strange. I wonder what is really going on?

It reads like panic stations, they issued their statement with no reference to BH and they, BH, have struggled to respond without resorting to 4 letter words to describe the idiotic self-entitled whine.

paulinespeaksmanylanguages · 08/01/2020 23:41

@joyfullittlehippo

Take yourself by the hand and read the thread!

ohprettybaby · 08/01/2020 23:45

@Foxes157
Harry is to William the same as Edward is to Charles. They are brothers to an heir.

Edward has had a more unconventional approach to Royal life and lives a more low key family life with a less conventional wife. His family is a similar dynamic to Harry's.

I suppose they do have things in common:

  1. Edward worked and tried to capitalise on his royal position by making TV programmes about royalty.
  2. Sophie, Countess of Wessex, thought she could land a lucrative contract with a 'sheikh', who was posing as a rich Dubai-based businessman, and was shamelessly drawing attention to her royal credentials.
  3. Harry and Meghan have trademarked the Sussex Royal brand with the obvious intention of exploiting their royal connections to make them 'financially independent'.

Why is Harry not allowed the same choice?
Would Harry want to be like the Wessexes? The difference between them is quite stark. Edward, Sophie and their children do stay out of the limelight and quietly get on with their royal duties. From reports that H&M feel they are not central to the Royal family, the suggestion is that they want to be in the limelight. I believe they want their privacy but also want to be in the limelight when they want to be. The two things aren't compatible with being a member of the royal family.

Not RTFT but my first thought was that she wants to return to her career and knows she wont be allowed to do that as things stand.
