Harry is to William the same as Edward is to Charles. They are brothers to an heir.
Edward has had a more unconventional approach to Royal life and lives a more low key family life with a less conventional wife. His family is a similar dynamic to Harry's.
I suppose they do have things in common:
- Edward worked and tried to capitalise on his royal position by making TV programmes about royalty.
- Sophie, Countess of Wessex, thought she could land a lucrative contract with a 'sheikh', who was posing as a rich Dubai-based businessman, and was shamelessly drawing attention to her royal credentials.
- Harry and Meghan have trademarked the Sussex Royal brand with the obvious intention of exploiting their royal connections to make them 'financially independent'.
Why is Harry not allowed the same choice?
Would Harry want to be like the Wessexes? The difference between them is quite stark. Edward, Sophie and their children do stay out of the limelight and quietly get on with their royal duties. From reports that H&M feel they are not central to the Royal family, the suggestion is that they want to be in the limelight. I believe they want their privacy but also want to be in the limelight when they want to be. The two things aren't compatible with being a member of the royal family.
