See link. News just announced.

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2020/01/08/prince-harry-meghan-step-back-senior-members-royal-family-couple/

It does sound like they might be escaping from the public scrutiny and online abuse.

OP posts:
MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 22:53

Therefore not malicious gossip.

Amylox · 08/01/2020 22:54

Who is blabbing to an American gossip site?

From extensive past experience royal leaks are usually from very poorly paid staff who supplement their meagre income that way, they're leaked by a rival royal (Diana constantly leaked negative stuff about Fergie if she wanted to distract from her own behaviour) and quite often from the royals themselves.

QueenOfIce · 08/01/2020 22:54

I've never warmed to Meghan, something about her seems so toxic. Her body language, the fact their documentary focused more on poor old privileged Megs wellbeing than the reason they were actually in Africa. The constant news articles on them are boring and irrelevant. I wish them the life they wish for themselves but I have a feeling Harry will be an unhappy man in the future.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 08/01/2020 22:54

So many pp have been going on about wanting the RF to be abolished since MM came on the scene. I wonder if we will still hear the same now, if she goes away. I think not

Most people who want the monarchy abolished have been wanting it for many many years. If this petulant couple flouncing off in a strop brings a few more people into the fold, then I cannot thank them enough.

paulinespeaksmanylanguages · 08/01/2020 22:54

@SanAntonio

Why is it unbelievable for a PP to say she is half white? I thought she was.

Is it because she identifies as a black woman and chooses to ignore her white heritage or is the fact that she is half white incorrect?Confused

BubblesBuddy · 08/01/2020 22:55

Can they not go and help put out the fires in Australia? That would give them something to do? Oh no. I forgot. No A list firefighters. Just ordinary people doing an incredible job. M&H take note. Do something useful.

lynsey91 · 08/01/2020 22:55

Good luck to them. Meghan has been treated appallingly by our press and look at some of the posts on here and the other threads that started today. Such nastiness and hatred. Even hating her for the fact that she held her pregnant stomach a lot. I have seen many many pregnant women do the same but I doubt they got hate for it. Posters that seem to think they know her intimately. Posters that are adamant their marriage will fail.

I hope they will be happy

LaurieMarlow · 08/01/2020 22:56

As I said, most of the articles on that website are absolutely spot on.

Biggest eye roll in all the world.

malylis · 08/01/2020 22:56

You realise that the mail story is quite possibly all made up?

A senior aide said...

Leflic · 08/01/2020 22:57

loving and supportive wives (who are alienated from their own families) don’t them actively alienate you from your own family when you have been profoundly affected by the loss of your mother.

If it was Princess Harry I think the comments would be very different.

This^.

And what happened to the whole “living in Africa” dream?

Cremebrule · 08/01/2020 22:57

In the beginning, she was treated terribly by the press but they have both brought on some of the later criticism themselves. I just don’t think they can be half in or half out as it just makes a mockery of public spending on the monarchy at times when other services are failing.

I don’t think anyone would begrudge them fully retiring to bring up Archie in peace. But, I don’t think you can turn up for the fun bits and ditch the other stuff. Releasing a statement without consulting the Queen just seems petulant and shows deep divisions whatever the intentions.

BubblesBuddy · 08/01/2020 22:57

The BBC story about the Queen isn’t made up and that’s the key story tonight.

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 22:58

@ LaurieMarlow

Published 28th Dec that this announcement would be made .. announcement made today.

What’s with the fucking eye roll?

Josette77 · 08/01/2020 22:58

I think cutting himself off from his own family is alarming. He will regret it. The Palace clearly had no clue they were going to do this which is appallingly disrespectful. The Queen deserves better than this.

Amylox · 08/01/2020 22:59

As I said, most of the articles on that website are absolutely spot on.

Also, I remember the 80s. There were lots and lots of stories about the problems in the Wales' marriage, Charles cheating, Diana's eating and emotional issues.

People were the same then 'Oh, it's just scurrilous rumours, all to sell papers'. Turned out that was all true too. The media do generally have good sources for their royal stories and demand a higher level of reliability before running with it.

Not much glamour in most of Africa for her!

No idea what you’re talking about

What’s with the fucking eye roll?

Not a single shred of evidence. As you well know.

Josette77 · 08/01/2020 23:01

Agree 100% I also wonder at how many free passes Harry is given because of Diana and yet William also lost his mum. It seems only to be Harry that is continually treated like a wounded bird.

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 23:02

The article I linked to saying this announcement would be made soon was published on the 28th Dec.

Announcement made today.

If you haven’t read it then get off your high sanctimonious horse.

lemans · 08/01/2020 23:03

Can't criticise the woman because that's just racist (apparently).

Harry was a well respected royal, soldier, Invictus instigator.

Now he isn't. I know where I put the blame.

MissEliza · 08/01/2020 23:03

I'm guessing that odd visit to Canada House was a massive hint that they were upping sticks to Canada? I thought that yesterday might be paving the way for such an announcement but why the need to do so? They handle things in such an odd way, then wonder why things don't get received well.
Incidentally, the Guardian is also reporting that no other member of the Royal family was informed before the announcement, which is appalling if true.

andthentherewere · 08/01/2020 23:04

Bit shit if he didn't let his gran know first though!!

paranoidmum2 · 08/01/2020 23:04

They’re going to get their own reality TV show on E!, aren’t they?

LaurieMarlow · 08/01/2020 23:04

If you haven’t read it then get off your high sanctimonious horse.

I’ll do that as soon as you provide some evidence Wink

I don’t see the article you’ve linked to, is that connected with the Rose story? If not, don’t see the relevance.
