See link. News just announced.

www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-family/2020/01/08/prince-harry-meghan-step-back-senior-members-royal-family-couple/

It does sound like they might be escaping from the public scrutiny and online abuse.

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 08/01/2020 22:37

It said on the bbc news they didn’t discuss it with the queen or anyone else in the royal family before making the announcement.

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 22:38

And you wonder about this Rose Hanbury stuff - she is back on the scene.

Was it a horrid rumour started by MM camp or what?

I dunno it all stinks.

Mummy195 · 08/01/2020 22:38

So many pp have been going on about wanting the RF to be abolished since MM came on the scene. I wonder if we will still hear the same now, if she goes away. I think not.

baggies · 08/01/2020 22:38

FWIW If I had lost my mum at his age, in those awful circumstances, having to walk behind her coffin I think that would have changed my life and affected my mental health. He has and probably still is having mental health issues and has admitted that he hasn't sought help in the past. If this move alleviates his pain then it's the right thing to do. He clearly has a loving and supportive wife in MM. I really think he has made the decision and is supported by her. Perhaps it hasn't been done following royal protocol and feel sympathy for the Queen and Prince William who must be very sad to see this happen.

SanAntonio · 08/01/2020 22:38

There are so many idiots especially the coloured ladies appearing on shows like Loose Women. Meghan isn't even all black, she's half white!

Unbelievable.
Totally unbelievable comment

Mlou32 · 08/01/2020 22:39

Just out of genuine curiosity, for those that are saying that folk who don't like Meghan Markle are racists, how do you come to that conclusion? What would you be attributing the dislike of the media and public towards her to if she were white?

Btw I don't have any feelings towards her whatsoever, I just wish them happiness as I would any other family.

Mummy195 · 08/01/2020 22:40

MM does not seem to even hang out with the turnips, but somehow DM readers have turned this into MM starting the rumour.

Sorry but that is quite unlikely.

Leflic · 08/01/2020 22:40

Shocking reading these comments. Wonder who will be your next victims.

But notice how there haven’t been any comments about them for ...6 weeks? Showing it’s perfectly possible for H&M to live a quiet life.
The plebs are allowed an opinion on the RF.

LaurieMarlow · 08/01/2020 22:40

Was it a horrid rumour started by MM camp or what?

There is not the slightest scrap of evidence that MM had anything to do with that story coming out.

Or can you enlighten us? Hmm

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 22:40

Loving and supportive wives (who are alienated from their own families) don’t them actively alienate you from your own family when you have been profoundly affected by the loss of your mother.

If it was Princess Harry I think the comments would be very different.

HateIsNotGood · 08/01/2020 22:41

I think Harry and Megan are pretty free and clear to live their lives for every reason.

I'm sure they will face little resistance; Harry's probably got his DNA in a safe somewhere - and I'm sure an important 'few' would rather those results weren't publicized.

HairyToity · 08/01/2020 22:41

With regard to the blind gossip link, how would they have all that information?

Who is blabbing to an American gossip site?

lyralalala · 08/01/2020 22:43

And you wonder about this Rose Hanbury stuff - she is back on the scene.

While she's the wife of the Lord Great Chamberlain she can't be banished from the royal scene without major explanations.

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 22:43

@ HairyToity

No idea but I read it on 28th Dec and was pretty sure who they were taking about
🤷‍♀️

VivaLeBeaver · 08/01/2020 22:44

I think the Norwegian family have the right idea. Pretty much only someone who will one day be king/Queen or is the child of the king gets a HRH. Everyone else is working or will be expected when old enough to work at normal jobs.

So Princess Martha who is the king’s daughter but won’t inherit is an alternative therapist and full time business woman.

PatchworkElmer · 08/01/2020 22:44

I saw it coming, and wish them well.

However, if they released the statement without even discussing with the RF, it will change my perception of them and their motives.

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 22:47

MM leaking the Rose Hanbury stuff was in there too.

Obviously I haven’t a shred of evidence that any of it is true but most of the stuff on there usually comes out as true eventually.

Current one is that Louis Tomlinson has got engaged to Eleanor 👍🏻🤣🤣

lyralalala · 08/01/2020 22:47

I'm sure they will face little resistance; Harry's probably got his DNA in a safe somewhere - and I'm sure an important 'few' would rather those results weren't publicized.

For goodness sake he is Prince Philip's absolute double

Unless you are suggesting his Grandfather could be his father there is no doubt to his parentage

BubblesBuddy · 08/01/2020 22:49

Queen, Charles, William didn’t know about this statement. H&M’s role is work in progress and they just haven’t had the decency to work through their proposals with the Queen. It’s seriously rude. They owe it to her to sort this out behind closed doors. They have brought a lot of this on themselves. The media have been used by them when they want it. I think the media cannot be blamed for this. They haven’t made M&H not negotiate with the Queen, Charles and William. They will want their titles and you bet social media will still follow them.

Sengah · 08/01/2020 22:49

@Amylox you've nailed it. Really astute assessment

Amylox · 08/01/2020 22:50

Edward has had a more unconventional approach to Royal life and lives a more low key family life with a less conventional wife. His family is a similar dynamic to Harry's.

Why is Harry not allowed the same choice?

Sophie Wessex tried to carry on running her PR firm but had to give it up because the conflict of interest between being in the RF and being a PR was too much. Even if she tried not to exploit her royal connection her clients would often exploit it anyway.

Sophie is now a very, very conventional royal wife. She and Edward quietly and with little fanfare do a lot of low key but valuable royal work. They go to widget factories in Dudley and shake hands with Indonesian investors in British business. Sophie came to a Uni I worked at to view some research. She came, not one person was outside for her. No crowd, no paparazzi. She went inside, was very nice, asked questions, thanked some of the funders, had her picture taken then left. Wasn't in the Sun or Mail but it was in trade papers and niche publications which led to interest in the research, collaborative opportunities, interested purchasers and recognition of all involved.

It would be perfectly possible for Meghan and Harry to live the same sort of dull and dutiful life cutting ribbons and raising their kids in the countryside, but they just don't want to.

Meghan in particular only seems to be enthused about engagements where A List US stars attended or there was opportunity for virtue signalling and woke posturing. The day after she attended the Lion King premiere and she met Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Pharrell, Meghan opted not to join Harry on a trip to open a new children's hospital in the industrial north.

They don't actually want to live like Sophie and Edward.

LaurieMarlow · 08/01/2020 22:51

Obviously I haven’t a shred of evidence that any of it is true

Right. So quit the malicious gossip then, hmm?

IAmNotAWitch · 08/01/2020 22:51

Excellent, Australia should leave next. [Grin]

MrsBrentford · 08/01/2020 22:53

@ LaurieMarlow

As I said, most of the articles on that website are absolutely spot on.

PatchworkElmer · 08/01/2020 22:53

Flipping heck, just seen that they didn’t let the family know before announcing. I think that’s pretty appalling. Wonder if they’ve done it in the hope that the queen just agrees to what they’ve said will happen? The statement from the palace clearly indicates that they feel the proposed way forward has issues.
