To ask how often you do laundry (those with children particularly)

It’s never ending. At least a full load every day. Sometimes more. Also do a white wash On a Friday for school shirts, towel wash, bedding etc etc.

Family of 4, 2 children with additional needs.

OH thinks my laundry habits are obsessive but what am I meant to do? Leave the wash basket piled up? Let Dc wear dirty clothes. OH how’s through his Fair share of clothes each day too.

Doing a load a day means I keep on top of it somewhat.

DC have additional needs who are incredibly messy. DS regularly comes home from school covered in mud and his lunch all down his uniform so needs a fresh set every day.

It’s exhausting but surely not out of the ordinary when you have children?

Goodness. You all do more than me. I only do 2 loads in the week. Then school uniforms on Friday night.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2019 18:42

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland I agree. I'll happily re wear clothes that aren't stained and don't smell. Not everything needs washing after one wear.

Missanneshirley · 21/12/2019 18:47

2 adults 2 kids and a dog

DH has work uniform, work clothes from 2nd job, gym gear and normal clothes
I have work clothes, gym clothes, normal clothes

Then 2 kids with uniform, sports kit, normal clothes

1-2 washes on a weekday, 3-4 each day at the weekend. Makes me weep!

PiggyInTheMiddle19 · 21/12/2019 18:48

1 to 2 loads a day.
Towels, shower curtain and t towels 3x a week
Bedding 1x a week that's 2 loads for all of us.
DH uniform 2x a week.. That can't go in with other items.. Then has to have am empty wash after due to the dirt / oils in it leaving a residue.

Sometimes more.

Littlefrog99 · 21/12/2019 18:48

2 adults, 1 toddler and 1 baby and we do approx 5 wash loads a week. I don't wash every day and on the occasion I'm home all day I'll blitz through the basket and do 3-4 loads in a day. I don't really iron stuff unless it needs it. I fold laundry while it's still warm and leave it in piles in the dressing room until I get chance to put it away. I rarely see the bottom of the washing basket.

Snaleandthewhail · 21/12/2019 18:53

Three children including one frequent bed wetter. DH and I have a different weekday off and have little competitions about how many loads get done. I have a small capacity washer dryer but use the drying function rarely - heated airer used lots and I managed to get four loads dry on the line just a fortnight ago.

RedSheep73 · 21/12/2019 18:54

Yep, everyday pretty much. My dh can't understand it either.

Spikeyball · 21/12/2019 18:54

1-3 loads a day depending upon how many clothes changes ds has had and whether or not there have been 'leaking' issues at night.

Redcrayons · 21/12/2019 18:56

Usually one load per day. And I try to make sure it’s all dried and folded before I start on another load. I don’t have a lot of drying space in winter.

1 adult and 2 DCs. The three of us play a fair bit of sport requiring extra clothes. And one of us can wear a couple of outfits a day.

flapjackfairy · 21/12/2019 19:02

Every day. I dread total know much of my life has been spent on laundry related tasks ! I have 2 adult kids still at home and 2 young children with complex need plus DH . I spend my life changing wet clothing and poo disasters so beds are often stripped daily etc.
I have a 9kg washer and I do about 3 loads a day at least. My adult kids do their own separately ( one is a swimming teacher so creates a lot of washing as well ) so that is just for 4 of us ! I managed to kill a miele washer in 4 yrs ! The engineer couldn't believe it ! He said he had never known that before !
I lust over a laundry room with 2 washers and 2 driers. It would be heaven !

Bananalanacake · 21/12/2019 19:02

5 loads a week. 2 adults and 2 dc. one in cloth nappies. I also wear clothes several times before they go in the wash. only pants are used once. bedding every 2 weeks.

Ohyesiam · 21/12/2019 19:05

2 kids 2 adults
4-5 loads a week

Milsplus3 · 21/12/2019 19:07

1 adult 3 children I put a wash on every day usually 2 of them a week are darks/school uniform, rest are lights/mixed, baby wash separately usually twice a week, then bedding every weekend and towels twice a week. If I didn’t I’d be behind and it’ll send my ocd into overdrive Grin if there isn’t enough clothes etc to last the week definitely keep on top of it, nothing worse than looking for particular item and it’s dirty

joystir59 · 21/12/2019 19:08

Most days. 3 adults and a dog (towels and bedding)

hauxwell · 21/12/2019 19:11

Me and a baby. 1 load a week or 2 if I am doing bedding. Shove everything in together, baby stuffs tiny and we both rewear if possible. I couldn't be arsed with all the washing people do on here.

Lazypuppy · 21/12/2019 19:12

4 loads a week (2 adults and 1 toddler)
1 load of towels
1 load of bedding
1 load for toddler
1 load of mine/dps

Tonii1985 · 21/12/2019 19:12

Family of 4 here, we make about a load per day all things considered, probably a little more, but we clear it on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

BertieBotts · 21/12/2019 19:13

We do a load most days. 2 adults, 2 children, one of whom is a toddler and the other is preteen (stinky).

I am a bit slatternly with bed sheets and towels though.

elliejjtiny · 21/12/2019 19:13

2 adults and 5 dc. 4 have additional needs, 3 do watersports and 3 have continence issues. I do 4-6 loads of washing a day depending on the weather.

Sceptre86 · 21/12/2019 19:13

Family of 4 with two kids aged 3.5years and 2. I do laundry three days a week and refuse to do it every day as I find it the crappest chore to do. I tend to do two to three loads for the kids a week and a coloured, black and white load for the adults.

NanooCov · 21/12/2019 19:17

At least one load a day. Frequently two.

2 adults, 2 kids (5 and 2). DH goes to gym / running frequently and I prefer to wash his kit separately as it is generally minging.

I don't change bedding very often. Or towels for that matter (barring hand towels).

We have a 9kg washer and 9kg condenser dryer (though prefer to line dry in the summer).

Pfefferkuchen · 21/12/2019 19:20

2 adults used to be 5 washes a week.

2 adults + 4 kids, we do roughly 2 loads a day. Minimum ironing though, so it's not really hard work. Either I put timer so machine finishes when I get up, or I put load on very first thing.

notforonesecond · 21/12/2019 19:20

2 adults and 2 kids under three here. I do 1 load a week most of the time. 2 if I’m washing bedding. Can’t even remember that last time I had to do 3 loads tbh.

The3Ls · 21/12/2019 19:21

Same as OP no additional needs. However extra 2 a day if 10 year old wets bed which happens x4-5 a week so average 15 a weeks when add in occasional wash cushion covers dovets mats etc

namechangenumber2 · 21/12/2019 19:21

4 in our house, including a teenage boy who plays a lot of sport!

I do about 10 loads a week? That's 3 x uniform, 1x sports wear, 3 x general clothes 2 x sheets/towels and a tea towel wash. Feels never ending...
