To ask how often you do laundry (those with children particularly)

It’s never ending. At least a full load every day. Sometimes more. Also do a white wash On a Friday for school shirts, towel wash, bedding etc etc.

Family of 4, 2 children with additional needs.

OH thinks my laundry habits are obsessive but what am I meant to do? Leave the wash basket piled up? Let Dc wear dirty clothes. OH how’s through his Fair share of clothes each day too.

Doing a load a day means I keep on top of it somewhat.

DC have additional needs who are incredibly messy. DS regularly comes home from school covered in mud and his lunch all down his uniform so needs a fresh set every day.

It’s exhausting but surely not out of the ordinary when you have children?

at least 8 loads

Marriedtoapenguin · 22/12/2019 11:24

7-8 loads a week. Smaller machine. Heated airer (godsend).

KimchiLaLa · 22/12/2019 11:26

One load a week, two adults and a toddler.

DH wears a white shirt to work mon-thurs, so he has five shirts to cover him.

We have extra sleeping bags in case toddler leaks through nappy at night.

Change PJ's once a week for me, every few days for him, and toddler every few days too. Again, we have extras.

MsAwesomeDragon · 22/12/2019 11:32

We're a family of 3 and probably do 3-4 loads a week. My child is probably tidier than yours though and can make the same uniform last through a couple of days at least. And I have a scruffy dh who will wear the same jeans for weeks if I let him.

I do think some people wash too often. But if your children get dirty then you have to wash their clothes. So if that means a load of washing a day then so be it.

inwood · 22/12/2019 11:37

Two adults two kids and I probably do 7-8 loads a week but I do it all on a Friday when I'm at home. Definitely don't want to be doing it every day.

lpchill · 22/12/2019 11:39

I feel like I don't wash enough from all these comments

2 adults 1 three year old. Dog and cat. In summer every other day in winter 5 times a week- weekdays (as I have a heated airer and dehumidifier and have to ensure the stuff is dry before the next load is on so smaller but more often loads)

Bedding gets washed once a fortnight but one week is adult bedding following week is the three year olds. Towels weekly. 3 year old has fresh clothes daily. One thing that did help was reducing the number of clothes we had. Seems to have made a big impact in our washing amount

cokehoke · 22/12/2019 11:44

What are people washing though if doing 3 loads a day?

Like a previous poster I feel dirty too but is because I have loads of clothes, sheets, uniform etc.

I would never wash & tumble dry my jeans after 1 wear (unless dirty) as it destroys them.

MoonlightMistletoe · 22/12/2019 11:46

Every other day I have three children however on the weekend I will do bedding, towels etc and a white wash.

Timeforachangeofusername99 · 22/12/2019 11:46

2 adults 2 kids, one load a day plus an extra couple a week for bedding and towels. Sometimes I skip a day but then have to catch up and it's easier to do a load a day than run out of drying space if I have to do multiple loads.

Babynamechangerr · 22/12/2019 11:47

Average once a day but usually do two loads (one white, one dark) every other day. 12kg machine. 2 adults 3 dc, including baby (so I wash my clothes Alot more often to avoid smelling of stale milk.

Bonniegirl435 · 22/12/2019 11:50

We have a 9kg machine and do 2 washes a day every couple of wks my as*le daughter will turn up with a few black bags full aswell so the machine if going for a whole saturday. We have 5 kids.

Phoebesgift · 22/12/2019 11:54

Do a load every day. 2 kids one with SN. I draw the line at washing clothes on Christmas day though.

fedup21 · 22/12/2019 11:58

doesn’t help we wear PJs to bed and throw them in the wash basket in the morning.

I wouldn’t wash pyjamas after one wear! Is it things like that your DH is saying is unnecessary?

DoIhavetobejolly · 22/12/2019 12:00

Same as you, every day.

If I'm not doing clothes it's towels, bedding etc. I couldn't possibly keep up if I didn't do a load a day.

Natsku · 22/12/2019 12:04

Usually a load a day (about once every 2 weeks or so there's not enough clothes for a load one day) - family of 4.

ClinkyMonkey · 22/12/2019 12:16

I could do a wash a day easily, but I have no tumble dryer so nothing would be dry before the next wash needed hung up. I just try to get a bit more wear out of things in winter, whereas in summer everything gets dried outside, so it all gets chucked in more frequently. Items like cardigans and jumpers, for example, can be worn more than once if you wear something underneath. My eldest can get a couple of days out of his uniform as he comes home looking pristine. I change his white polo shirt every day though. Younger son comes home looking like he's used his jumper as a handy plate and trousers caked in muck, so his gets changed every day!

Catrescue1971 · 22/12/2019 12:22

2 lots a day at the mo but school has just finished and son back from uni. It calms down to 1 a day term time (6 in family and my work means I change clothes daily).

Glitteryone · 22/12/2019 12:52

1 adult & 2 kids here

I do 1-2 loads per day, everyday.

Catrescue1971 · 22/12/2019 16:46

My mistake (see below). 4 done today!

Megan2018 · 22/12/2019 17:46

If my baby didn’t vomit on me so often I’d definitely do less. Yesterday was an all time low-2pairs jeans and 3 tops. She manages to miss both bib and muslin and get it all on me Hmm

Lolwhat · 22/12/2019 17:46

2/3 6kg washes a day for a family of 5

zdjg · 22/12/2019 18:33

At least 1 wash a day but tbh I don't understand where it all comes from?!
We have a sickness bug in the house atm and feel like I'm washing constantly! 😣

ipswichwitch · 22/12/2019 18:40

We average one load a day here - family of 4, DS1 plays football 3x a week;DS2 has asd and he’s always messy, but then wants to get changed as soon as he sees the mess. We are pretty outdoorsy so go through a lot of clothes.

mindutopia · 22/12/2019 18:46

2 adults, 2 children and we do a full load probably 5 days a week. But I don’t really wash anything separately. No whites, no delicates, everything is chucked in together (our school shirts are wisely blue!). The only separates I do are bedding and towels and those don’t get done all that often frankly. Blush Dh does his own though and have no idea how often!

gigi556 · 22/12/2019 19:02

2 adults. 1 toddler. Usually one load a day!
