To ask how often you do laundry (those with children particularly)

It’s never ending. At least a full load every day. Sometimes more. Also do a white wash On a Friday for school shirts, towel wash, bedding etc etc.

Family of 4, 2 children with additional needs.

OH thinks my laundry habits are obsessive but what am I meant to do? Leave the wash basket piled up? Let Dc wear dirty clothes. OH how’s through his Fair share of clothes each day too.

Doing a load a day means I keep on top of it somewhat.

DC have additional needs who are incredibly messy. DS regularly comes home from school covered in mud and his lunch all down his uniform so needs a fresh set every day.

It’s exhausting but surely not out of the ordinary when you have children?

Family of four

Two loads a day .. minimum. More if I've changed bedsheets or we've been swimming/ds playing rugby.

Fr0g · 21/12/2019 17:42

I have tried to cut down on laundry to be a bit greener.
Generally I alternate and do a load of clothes one week, Bed linen and towels another - I often change just the sheet, so the sheet is used for a week, the duvet cover for two weeks.
On the bed linen week, underwear gets chucked in too.
Seems to work well enough, although I did an additional load this weekend because I had several woolen things that needed washing.

Before cutting down, I probably did linen/towels and clothes once a week.
I use a clothes airer rather than tumble dry.

Fatted · 21/12/2019 17:44

We are two adults and two kids. We do a load a day. DH gets filthy at work and my DC get filthy just existing it seems, so every needs washed after one wear. Plus bedding and towels need doing.

Our house is open plan and I much prefer doing the washing when I am out at work etc. I couldn't be doing with sitting there listening to the washing machine going all day over the weekend.

Jollitwiglet · 21/12/2019 17:45

Generally 1 load a day here, including bedding and towels. Do an extra wash if toddler wets the bed or the dog rolls in something smelly and escapes onto the blankets and cushions before I get her up in the bath.

Sofast · 21/12/2019 17:47

9 loads a week, including towels but ot including bedding. That's 2 loads once every 3/4 weeks

BlueEyedBengal · 21/12/2019 17:50

Family of 8, 6 of them children so I do everyday 4 wash's but 3 times a week can be up to 6 especially on bedding laundry day.

goodluckdontdie · 21/12/2019 17:50

Family of four, big machine, I do probably 4 washes a week.

We're not one of those mn families who wash towels/pjs/jeans/etc after a single use, though. That helps.

goodluckdontdie · 21/12/2019 17:52

I also don't separate darks/colours/whites or anything like that.

Mumof1andacat · 21/12/2019 17:58

2 - 3 loads a week. 2 adults and 1 child. I dont do ironing. How do family create so much washing? Clothes dont last surly if they are washed all the time. The electric and water bill must be sky high.

bonzo77 · 21/12/2019 18:00

2 adults. 3 kids. 6-10 loads a week depending on if I’ve changed beds / towels or bed wetting etc accidents. 8kg washing machine. Rarely use the drier for £ and ecological reasons. I put a wash on as soon as I have a full load as it’s easier to dry stuff if I keep on top of it.

xlkhs · 21/12/2019 18:03

2 adults, 2 (older) children, dog
Of course it’s on every day

troppibambini · 21/12/2019 18:03

2 adults 4 kids every other day two full loads. It's ridiculous the amount of laundry I do but it's just one of those things you just have to crack on with.

anon2000000000 · 21/12/2019 18:05

I do 2 a day, everything goes straight in the machine so no washing basket to fill up.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2019 18:06

Family of 2 - me and one DS.

Usually do 2 loads a week - colours and bedding. Whites once a fortnight as we don't have many white clothes. Towels are done as and when needed.

Another one who doesn't get how people generate so much washing - DS and I wear a pair of trousers for 3 days ish, unless you've got really young children surely your clothes don't get dirty after one wear! (Exception of socks/underwear)

KittenVsXmastree · 21/12/2019 18:06

It probably averages as one most days, but when I get decent drying weather at the moment, I blast through as much as I can. Drying a load a day is taxing for me if I cant get it out on the line at all.

BennyTheBall · 21/12/2019 18:06

Family of 4 plus a dog.

It's on at least once a day, often more. I think today it has been on twice - one load was towels and one was other white stuff.

RunningNinja79 · 21/12/2019 18:07

Family of 5 (2 adults and 3 school age children). A load every day and then some.

I've got a machine with a delay setting so I set it to come on so it finishes about the time we get up then I can get up and sort it out straight away. That way the things can get in the dryer straight away and by the time we leave the house for school/work its dry.

On a weekend I can do up to 4 or 5 loads in a day, but these are things like bedding and towels along with trying to clear the pile down.

The family often tease me about my washing obsession, but like you, I'd rather try my best to keep on top of it as much as I can. One night I did dream I was at the basket sorting loads out so who knows, perhaps it is an obsession.

The fact that I exercise on an evening doesn't help. Uniform X3, work clothes and gym clothes go to wash most nights.

alwaysdressedinyellow · 21/12/2019 18:10

3 of us plus the dog. At least one load a day and two on a few days. I can’t understand how it could be less. Bedding and towels washed once a week and clean uniform every day.

Meggie2008 · 21/12/2019 18:10

How do you all get it dried doing so much?! Ours takes about 3 days to dry before we can get another set up

somanyresusablebags · 21/12/2019 18:11

Three kids, one toddler and two smell teenage boys who play rugby.

One a weekday and all day Saturday and sunday. Always. Constantly doing laundry.

Annasgirl · 21/12/2019 18:11

2 adults 3 DC - two teens, all DC and DH and I are sporty - so lots of sport kit.

2 washes a day - if it is not done, then up to 4 per day at weekend - so I try to keep up.

Never ending, I hate it.

Even on holiday I do loads - 2-3 loads a day depending on how bad the towels get!!

Menora · 21/12/2019 18:11

I wash all my whites on hot with whitening powder. I found that pillow cases bras and T-shirt’s did not stay nice otherwise

CostaLotta · 21/12/2019 18:12

2 adults 2 kids. 1 wash a day, 2 a day at weekend when I do all our bedding too.

motherofawhirlwind · 21/12/2019 18:14

2 washer dryers and I do a load or two most days.... 2 adults, 1 tween and 5 cats with very muddy paws and questionable toileting habits i.e. I had to wash the front door mat and my trainers yesterday as someone had peed on them....

FenellaMaxwell · 21/12/2019 18:14

One a day, often more at the weekends when we tend to do sheets and towels.
