To ask how often you do laundry (those with children particularly)

It’s never ending. At least a full load every day. Sometimes more. Also do a white wash On a Friday for school shirts, towel wash, bedding etc etc.

Family of 4, 2 children with additional needs.

OH thinks my laundry habits are obsessive but what am I meant to do? Leave the wash basket piled up? Let Dc wear dirty clothes. OH how’s through his Fair share of clothes each day too.

Doing a load a day means I keep on top of it somewhat.

DC have additional needs who are incredibly messy. DS regularly comes home from school covered in mud and his lunch all down his uniform so needs a fresh set every day.

It’s exhausting but surely not out of the ordinary when you have children?

Five adults and a full load everyday for clothes and towels and two extra per week for bedding and one whites wash.

The laundry baskets are never empty..

KittenVsXmastree · 21/12/2019 18:15

wax
Double bed - one wash
2 single beds - one wash
Colours - 2 washes
Towels - one wash
Whites - one wash
Gym stuff (2 sets for me, 2 sets for DH, 2 for DS2, and one for DS1) one wash.

WLmum · 21/12/2019 18:15

Family of 5 here, generally one load a day, but once a week we'll do 3 loads. I don't find it particularly exhausting. All dc are responsive for putting their own clean clothes away which helps a lot.

HoHoHoik · 21/12/2019 18:16

Minimum of two loads a day.

That's for two adults and four children, two of the children have additional needs and one child is a particularly grubby toddler. Three of the DC do swimming lessons, one does football, one does dancing so there are enough kits to be washed that it's a full load all on it's own.

SingingSands · 21/12/2019 18:16

Every day. 2 adults, 2 kids. We are sporty too, so there's always dirty kit to be done, not just normal clothes and school uniforms.

littlepooch · 21/12/2019 18:16

2 adults, 3 kids 4 and under. I do at least a load everyday.

It's the only way I can keep on top of it!
The worst bit is putting it all away.

SnugglySnerd · 21/12/2019 18:18

Full load a day. 2 adults and 3 dcs aged 5 and under.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/12/2019 18:18

2 adults and 1 ds.1 load a day on average

MuchTooTired · 21/12/2019 18:19

1-2 loads a day depending upon how messy/muddy we’ve gotten. 2 adults, 22 month old DTs. 8kg washing machine, 9kg tumble dryer.

Gingerninja01 · 21/12/2019 18:20

Usually 2 lots a day. I would rather do frequent washes than have an overflowing laundry basket which would take ages to do.

isithotinhereorisitjustme · 21/12/2019 18:20

Family of 7, one of whom is incontinent, so at least 2 loads a day, sometimes up to 4 - it's never ending, especially in the winter when everything takes so long to dry!

NotYourHun · 21/12/2019 18:22

Two adults, and a toddler here. Baby wash every other day - we use cloth nappies and wash most of his clothes in with them too. Adult wash (including sheets, towels etc. As and when they need doing) every 2-3 days. We’re both very active and DH cycles to work so there is the occasional quick wash of mucky sports kit if we don’t have a full wash basket.

JacquesHammer · 21/12/2019 18:22

One load a week for DD.
One load a week for me.
One load a fortnight for towels.
One load a fortnight for bedding.

LeslieYep · 21/12/2019 18:23

2 adults, a 3yo and 6mo. I do about 2 per week.
Can't be arsed separating so use the sheets to stop colour spread.
Do about 2 full loads per week but have a 10kg capacity drum. It's awesome.
No dryer or garden to dry in so all on a clothes horse or radiators. Thankfully 1/2 the clothes are small!

Glitterblue · 21/12/2019 18:25

One load a day, sometimes more. If I don't, I don't keep on top of it and it stresses me out! At least it's not like when I was little, my mum had to haul the twin tub out every time she wanted to do washing... And 3 boys and twin girls meant a lot of washing! Especially when she used cloth nappies too. I remember it being dragged into the middle of the kitchen - I'd hate to have to do that!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/12/2019 18:26

Kitten makes sense written down then. I'm not very active to be honest so no gym gear for me to wash.

Cornettoninja · 21/12/2019 18:28

About five a week - lights, darks, mixed, towels and bedding and then usually a random one on a Sunday where anything that can survive a mixed wash gets chucked in so it doesn’t sit in the basket irritating me Grin

I usually do that over one or two days though - are the people doing daily loads not splitting their lights/darks?

stophuggingme · 21/12/2019 18:28

Me and three children under six.
I do a minimum of two 9kg loads a day. It is like the magic porridge pot

ebenezerscroogedmeover · 21/12/2019 18:32

2 adults, 3 year old and 8 month old.

1-2 loads a day (clothing and towels)
If I miss a day I have a huge backload.

There's usually a few extra loads in the week for bedding and blankets/throws too.

New Years resolution is to cut it down a bit. Wear stuff more than once and use towels again etc.

KTCluck · 21/12/2019 18:33

2 adults one toddler - there’s typically 3 loads during the working week (whites, colours, darks) then at the weekend I do 4 (bedding, towels, my work tunics and DH’s scruffy work clothes).

TheTrollFairy · 21/12/2019 18:34

I do mine at the weekend. 1 load for DD, 1 for DP. 1 for me, 1 underwear, 1 towels and finally bedding. Works for us.
It then takes 6 years to put away

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 21/12/2019 18:34

2 adults 2 kids (inc baby in washables).

5 loads a week

  • whites
  • colours
  • extra load of clothes every other week or so
  • towels
  • bedding every other week
  • nappies/any other sanitary type

We have a 10kg washer & an 8kg heat pump dryer so can fit a decent amount in each time.

TheTrollFairy · 21/12/2019 18:36

Wear stuff more than once and use towels again etc
You use towels once and then wash them Shock

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 21/12/2019 18:37

Nb I think some people over wash, eg washing unstained jeans/trousers/jumpers every single time they are worn even when they still smell & look clean. We also don't change pyjamas daily in our house - once a week.

MaidenMotherCrone · 21/12/2019 18:41

5 adults = 15 washes per week.

Each do their own 3 loads. 2 x clothes, 1x bedding/towels.

We have 2 machines and a tumble dryer.
