To still like Jeremy Corbyn?

I think it's right that he stepped down as the public clearly didn't get him...hated him even but i think he stands for the good in society. I actually think he is correctvto call out Israel for being bastards to Palestine and whilst ge apparently supports terroism ( ira), i think he is a negotiator ...the UK shafted Ireland hugely and the IRA is a consequence of that. We need people to negotiate with them.
I slso think remaining neutral on Brexit was the right thing to do but respecting the will of the people.

I don't hate Boris but he has got away with a lot. He has said many racist slurs, he hates women, he has multiple illegitimate children yet blames women, he switched sides re Brexit, oh and he's happy to trade with people like Saudi Arabia who have awful human rights. But apparently Jeremy is the bad one.

YANBU. Corbyn is a deeply principled man who genuinely believes in a fairer society for all. I think history will look at him kindly, particularly with the way the world is going now.

missfliss · 14/12/2019 07:07

I agree.

It's right that he has agreed to stand down but I feel he is a deeply principled person who wants to make the world better.

The press have been utterly disgusting in their smears and attacks.

Apparently he gets re-elected every time with a larger majority in his constituency.

I hope the Labour Party choose a new leader who can signal change, freshness and economic credibility for business

PooWillyBumBum · 14/12/2019 07:08

The IRA thing baffles me. Clinton, Blair and the Unionist leader all held talks with them too. The NI Secretary of State was negotiating with the IRA in the 70s. It was vital in the peace process.

I also think most people who spout off about it don’t know very much about what happened in NI and how the sequence of events really came about.

The way we talk about terrorism, and the application of the “terrorist” label by governments, has always been arbitrary and self-serving. In the 1980s, Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan denounced the African National Congress in South Africa as terrorists, while supporting insurgent groups elsewhere whose record of violence against civilians was incomparably worse, from Angola to Afghanistan, Cambodia to Nicaragua. Current Tory ministers have approved £2bn in arms sales to repressive regimes since the last election.

So yeah I don’t think YABU.

malificent7 · 14/12/2019 07:08

Such a shame the public don't want positive change and dismiss decent principles as 'hard left.'

YANBU

Jeremy is a lovely principled man and despite everything that was thrown at him he never resorted to smears or name calling.

Over 10 millions people voted for labour and over 200 constituencies are labour, bearing in mind the onslaught from all the right wing media and lies spread on social media I think he managed to get a good result.

Unfortunately so many people have voted for the "get brexit done" rather than fully costed manifesto which could have changed the lives of so many people.

I think some people are going to regret their choice over the next 5 years.

Charlottejbt · 14/12/2019 07:15

YANBU, but we're in a small minority which is no longer welcome in this country.

vampirethriller · 14/12/2019 07:17

YANBU

rosybell · 14/12/2019 07:19

I agree too. It baffles me that some of my friends - knowlegable/intelligent labour voters believe some of the lies the right wing press have written about him.
I genuinely dont understand why people felt he would be 'dangerous ' in no 10.

Littlecaf · 14/12/2019 07:19

YANBU. He is a good man with some very good principles. He just not a good leader and should beer have been the leader of the Labour Party as he was never going to t elected and this opened the door for Boris n co to step in.

Barnseyboyo · 14/12/2019 07:20

He has divided the country and ruined politics with his student unions speeches. He’s an activist not a politician. He’s a dangerous man who would put our country in danger. I would be embarrassed to be associated with him and what he stands for. Did you see the marches last night? Are you proud to be a Corbyn/Labour supporter after seeing them? One highlight was the ‘kill Tory scum’ jacket. We are not the bad guys.

SallyWD · 14/12/2019 07:22

YANBU I love him. Have never felt so inspired by any other politician.

orcaaa · 14/12/2019 07:22

It isn’t about liking or hating, tbh.

I am sure he’s a nice bloke. But so is Gary over the road. Doesn’t mean I think either of them can lead the country.

CupCupGoose · 14/12/2019 07:23

I love him. What an absolute brilliant man he is. I hope he goes down in history as a politician who actually cared about people and tried to make this country a better place. I find it so sad that (working class people especially) people feel that he is an extremest just because he believed everyone was entitled to good standard of living.

I knew the tories would win a majority but I'm still gutted.

CupCupGoose · 14/12/2019 07:25

I also don't understand why everyone describes him as dangerous?

TheDevilsPedicure · 14/12/2019 07:39

How is he a brilliant man? He is a part of why we are stuck with Boris, Priti Patel and co for another 5 years.

He may be principled, may be may be dignified in the face of the smears the media try to tar him with. I agree with a lot of what he said and consider myself left wing.

But he KNEW he stood no chance of becoming PM, he knows he is too divisive. He knew how he was going to be painted in the media. It feels like Labour barely bothered to fight this election campaign too and we're coming out with rubbish about a 4 day working week which is just not what people care about right now. I want to know the NHS is still going to be there.

He should and could have made the decision to stand down and let somebody else who had a better chance of being elected take over. He and Labour could have tried to appeal to a broader electorate. He does seem to be caring and principled but then I can't fir the life of me understand why he didn't step aside and do whatever it took to get The Tories out.

I'm so angry at him for this, have been saying this for at least the past two years. I can't like him for those reasons.

Bluntness100 · 14/12/2019 07:41

I think history will look at him kindly, particularly with the way the world is going now

Least likely thing ever...🤣

AnnieTotach · 14/12/2019 07:41

I think hes disgusting.
Sure, like him if you want but it would be nice if the cultish hero worship died down.
And recognise that labour didn't win because of him. People didn't vote for labour because they didn't want him and momentum not because they're callous, evil or stupid.

jcurve · 14/12/2019 07:46

Apparently he gets re-elected every time with a larger majority in his constituency.

It’s Islington North. You could put up a pig in a red rosette and they’d vote Labour.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 14/12/2019 07:46

He knew that he was going to lose and he persisted anyway. He is more interested in his personal power and maintaining the cult labour has become than having a labour victory. He is a misogynist and comes across as petty and petulant. He makes promises he has no intention of keeping which isn't honourable. The way labour has been run internally over the last couple of years is grim, the knock on the door from compliance for thinking the wrong think, the women's jobs given to misogynistic men. Nah, he isn't a good man.

MarieG10 · 14/12/2019 07:48

@Charlottejbt

YANBU, but we're in a small minority which is no longer welcome in this country.

Well I suppose the good that comes out of it for you is that you understand what Jewish people started feeling like with Corbyn and his Mementum supporters hounding them. At least they are another band of relieved people after the election. I just hope a new leader will really start to purge the band of anti semitic Jew haters that Labour have now ingrained in their party

Branleuse · 14/12/2019 07:49

Yanbu, i think he is a great man, but no point going for PM when he divides opinion so strongly

Branleuse · 14/12/2019 07:50

What we need is another left/centrist to make both sides happyish

HeresMe · 14/12/2019 07:53

He might seem a nice guy if you believe same as him.

On the anti-Semitism in the party it can go two ways eithier he is a anti Semite(I don't think he is) or he is incompetent for letting it fester instead of confronting it.

missfliss · 14/12/2019 07:53

it’s Islington North. You could put up a pig in a red rosette and they’d vote Labour.

Or maybe he is an excellent MP to his local constituents?

madcatladyforever · 14/12/2019 07:53

i think he is deluded, he was going to open up the gates to the whole world again - I heard him say it - and allow unlimited immigration yet somehow provide unlimited funds for all services.
He ignored all of the people who voted Brexit and was happy to put us through more referendums until he got the result he wants which is to remain and as a result of his policies the tories got back in and we're stuck with this bollox for the next 5 years.
Politicians repeatedly fail to listen to the people.
