To still like Jeremy Corbyn?

I think it's right that he stepped down as the public clearly didn't get him...hated him even but i think he stands for the good in society. I actually think he is correctvto call out Israel for being bastards to Palestine and whilst ge apparently supports terroism ( ira), i think he is a negotiator ...the UK shafted Ireland hugely and the IRA is a consequence of that. We need people to negotiate with them.
I slso think remaining neutral on Brexit was the right thing to do but respecting the will of the people.

I don't hate Boris but he has got away with a lot. He has said many racist slurs, he hates women, he has multiple illegitimate children yet blames women, he switched sides re Brexit, oh and he's happy to trade with people like Saudi Arabia who have awful human rights. But apparently Jeremy is the bad one.

I was full of hope when he was made leader - I agree with a lot of his policies.

But it became immediately obvious he couldn't work with the rest of his party that weren't idealogically pure enough for him. He surrounded himself by the increasingly cultish Momentum movement, failed to listen to any dissent, put himself before the good of the party by remaining in charge despite so much internal strife and poor polls.

The tories have been a train wreck for 3 years. A competent opposition should have been kicking at the open goal. Instead, infighting, a failure to address antisemitism problems, a scattergun approach to everything instead of a focused message, and inevitable failure.

He might be a decent bloke but he was a useless party leader.

Marleyisme · 14/12/2019 09:21

If you votes tactically, to get labour and JC in, the tactics didnt work and were poor.

Now we bloody have the Tories. Maybe if all these JC supporters had just voted for Labour, the outcome would have been different.

ForalltheSaints · 14/12/2019 09:22

There have been many politicians who are good people and are principled. Many of them would never be good at being a party leader, and Jeremy Corbyn is one of them.

I don’t really understand why you’re pissed off. Sounds like you voted with your people to me.

Bodyposiftw · 14/12/2019 09:24

I don't know you can't hate Boris Johnson after saying yourself that he racist, sexist and a liar though. Who do you hate?

CaveMum · 14/12/2019 09:24

@awaynboilyurhead, Miriam Margolyes was on The Last Leg last night, she said JC was a friend of hers and she loved him dearly but that he was an awful Leader. If even his friends are saying that then surely people should listen.

AnnieTotach · 14/12/2019 09:25

"I don’t really understand why you’re pissed off. Sounds like you voted with your people to me."

So how did this whole 'If you don't like us, fuck off and vote Tory' attitude work out for you then?

merrymouse · 14/12/2019 09:26

even though Miriam Margoyles who is Jewish defended him and said she did not beleive him to be anti Semitic, her voice was not heard I only saw it in one interview The party made terrible errors in not getting rid swiftly of any member who spouts evil. I don’t think Jeremy can be individually blamed for that.

Of course he can be blamed for that. Whether the party were happily ignoring their leader, or were confident that he would turn a blind eye, there was a failure of leadership.

SnowyChristmasTree · 14/12/2019 09:27

Yanbu.

I don't agree with every single thing he says, but I agree with a lot of it. I think the way he has been treated in the press has been highly unfair. I think he's remained very dignified in the face of terrible abuse.

But people are entitled to their vote and they have chosen who they want to lead our country. I hope it keeps fine for them. We will see.

RiftGibbon · 14/12/2019 09:27

Many many years ago he was my local MP. He was the only person who could be arsed to properly canvass, and to get involved with constituents on a day to day basis.
Regardless of the colour of your politics, if you view the public with contempt, if you refuse to engage with them, and put the needs of the few above the necessities of the many, then you will never get my vote.

Milicentbystander72 · 14/12/2019 09:27

Churchandstate , and there you have it. Classic closed thinking.

'My people' ? I've been a floating voter all my life. I have Party, I have a vote. I wanted it to be for a centrist, credible Labour Party. That's why I'm pissed off.

Milicentbystander72 · 14/12/2019 09:28

*i don't have a party.

churchandstate · 14/12/2019 09:28

So how did this whole 'If you don't like us, fuck off and vote Tory' attitude work out for you then?

Dreadfully. But that’s how politics works, or how it is designed to work. You set out your stall, you try to convince people you’re right and then you see what they think. And you don’t whine about it afterwards.

Most of the whiners I’ve seen here seem to be people who want politicians to design their manifestos around their own preferences to make themselves feel good, rather than accepting that there will be a range of political views on offer and they should go with the one that most closely matches their views.

The poster I addressed just now is clearly a Tory. 🤷🏻‍♀️

churchandstate · 14/12/2019 09:29

Milicentbystander72

You’re not Labour, though. You’re a centrist. So you vote for what seems to you to be the most centrist party. That doesn’t obligate all the parties to match your preferences.

Milicentbystander72 · 14/12/2019 09:29

It's like Alistar Campbell said on Thursday night -

"If you tell throw enough abuse and tell people to fuck off you Tory.....don't be surprised if they vote Tory"

awaynboilyurheid · 14/12/2019 09:30

tigger Agree totally a strong Labour leader with centrist policies would and should have wiped the floor against that twat . I could never vote for them and as dramatic as this sounds would rather cut my hand off. I know family voted Tory to keep SNP out but sadly this didn’t work Boris has caused another upsurge in the SNP meaning we are looking at Scotland breaking away form the UK it’s madness .

churchandstate · 14/12/2019 09:32

I just don’t get why anyone would be pissed off at a party for presenting a set of policies they don’t happen to agree with. Why would they want a Labour government if not because they agreed with their policies?

Milicentbystander72 · 14/12/2019 09:32

Churchandstate no of course not....but Labour used to be for me and millions like me. Now their actually turning people off. That pisses me off, because ultimately it lets people down.

You just stay with your Momentum/Corbyn policies. Just don't ever expect to be elected.

churchandstate · 14/12/2019 09:33

Milicentbystander72

How has anyone let you down? You found a party with policies you agreed with and you voted for them.

Milicentbystander72 · 14/12/2019 09:34

Alan Johnson here says it all

Lamentations · 14/12/2019 09:34

I agree OP. I have always liked Corbyn for being principled and refusing to be a 'suit' politician. A breath of fresh air. I too think that history will be kinder to him than the current media. I did not vote Labour but not because I don't like Jezza.

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2019 09:35

Church you are represented. Centre left are not. And stubborn Corbynites are irritating a lot of people who could actually be represented by a party.

Your one preference is irrelevant. Ten million is still so. Everyone is saying go away now - the result evidences this. Time to go.

merrymouse · 14/12/2019 09:35

But that’s how politics works, or how it is designed to work. You set out your stall, you try to convince people you’re right and then you see what they think.

This is how to do politics if you never want to be in government.

The poster I addressed just now is clearly a Tory.

No, you have no idea how they voted. However, if people who voted Conservative in this election can't be persuaded to vote Labour in future elections, Labour will never again be in government.

churchandstate · 14/12/2019 09:35

Milicentbystander72

Alan Johnson is Labour through and through and can be as pissed off as he likes. You’re a floating voter. Nobody let you down.

awaynboilyurheid · 14/12/2019 09:36

Cave Yes I saw her, and I agree!
