To still like Jeremy Corbyn?

I think it's right that he stepped down as the public clearly didn't get him...hated him even but i think he stands for the good in society. I actually think he is correctvto call out Israel for being bastards to Palestine and whilst ge apparently supports terroism ( ira), i think he is a negotiator ...the UK shafted Ireland hugely and the IRA is a consequence of that. We need people to negotiate with them.
I slso think remaining neutral on Brexit was the right thing to do but respecting the will of the people.

I don't hate Boris but he has got away with a lot. He has said many racist slurs, he hates women, he has multiple illegitimate children yet blames women, he switched sides re Brexit, oh and he's happy to trade with people like Saudi Arabia who have awful human rights. But apparently Jeremy is the bad one.

Love him.

jcurve · 14/12/2019 07:55

Or maybe he is an excellent MP to his local constituents

He’s mine and I can assure you he’s not.

missfliss · 14/12/2019 07:58

@jcurve

Well I can't really argue with how you feel about him in that way. You live there, I don't.

EleanorShellstrop100 · 14/12/2019 07:58

He’s an amazing man who genuinely wants to do what is right. Before Corbyn everyone complained that all the parties were exactly the same - they were. He changed that and he’s the only man who will do SO many things that need to be done. He is the only politician I have ever felt truly excited and inspired by. He is what is needed, not to be replaced by some mediocre idiot who will make sure that we go back to how things were before - every party basically the same, no real choice for voters. I am not surprised he didn’t win ONLY because he has been completely smeared by the press and had complete lies spread about him and unfortunately a lot of people are too stupid to see beyond what is printed in the papers. How anyone can be stupid enough to believe any of the negative things said about him is beyond me. Half of me truly despairs of the british public and the other half of me has hope for the future because Corbyn has inspired so many people - particularly young people, and including those who are currently too young to vote.

JoanJettPack · 14/12/2019 07:59

YANBU

The most slurred politician in history. People who believe all of the terrorist sympathiser rubbish have believed the propaganda spread by the billionaire- owned media.

I have fact checked every lie I've heard about him (and believe me, I have heard them all) and none of them are entirely true. Just manipulation of facts regurgitated by people who have somehow been convinced that a lying, racist, homophobic, misogynist who would rather hide in a fridge than face any scrutiny is what we need running our country.

stairway · 14/12/2019 08:03

I think he gets more criticism then he deserves. Maybe I don’t really understand the antisemitism thing though. Despite the digging they never managed to label him an anti semite . Apparently it was rampant in the party but no doubt it won’t ever be mentioned again now he’s gone. I think being pro Palestinian is political suicide.

churchandstate · 14/12/2019 08:03

He’s principled, honest and cares about vulnerable and oppressed people. But yes, he’s obviously the villain 🙄

Well you just espouse the whole view of Momentum and their complete cloud they live in. An amazing man who has spent his whole political career supporting terrorists and haters of this country. Well happy for you that you felt inspired by him, and you are like the coterie of devoted supporters that live in a total bubble to the mainstream people of this country that have given a verdict in him.

Much as the hard left don't like it, the only time Labour will win power is by reaching out and being a centre left party. This is not a hard left socialist country so if you offer that then it is not likely to be successful.

I didn't fancy having an economy like Venezuela either

So what we can thank him for is with the majority that the government now has, is that it is likely to take elections to even whittle it down to a hung parliament so Labour will have been out of power for 20 years next time you see a Labour government. No wonder there isn't a rush of candidates for the next leader

Nutcrackerz · 14/12/2019 08:08

You can like whoever you like. You can vote however you want and it’s no one’s business. Perhaps more people will vote differently to you, but we happily live in a democracy and on the whole a civilised society!

Minesril · 14/12/2019 08:08

Totally agree with everything you said (apart from not hating boris). I think he would have changed this country massively for the better.

I hate the fact that he's still being smeared. As he got more votes than Brown and Milliband he actually did very well this election - especially as it was despite the press (including the fucking guardian!!).

I firmly believe that this is down to that snake farage putting candidates in places like Blythe Valley and other Leave constituencies. I had no idea he had the brains for that so didn't realise until the votes started to come in.

I also don't understand why Corbyn should immediately resign. What run away like cameron did?? It makes him more principled IMO that he'd rather stick around until they can find a really good replacement.

Can anyone help me out - one of the tv debates had a really good labour MP on it - she was fantastic at shutting down the Brexit rep when he kept trying to interrupt her - what was her name?

MurrayTheMonk · 14/12/2019 08:10

His majority was smaller than it has been in the past in Islington this time.

I've met him and in person he was lovely. I agree with a lot of his aims and I admire his principles.

But I do think that he must have an ego a mile wide because the writing has been clearly on the wall about how the general population perceive him for years and he has failed to listen to that to the detriment of his party and more widely the nation. He was never going to win this time or even come close and having been told that repeatedly, the thing to do for the greater good would have been to step down and ensure someone more electable was put in place.
Instead he has listened to his yes men too much and that's a huge flaw in him for me.

notquiteruralbliss · 14/12/2019 08:13

YANBU and I hope we choose a new Labour Psrty leader who will carry on his work.

juliej00ls · 14/12/2019 08:15

I don’t like him. He has very little self awareness. His poor leadership has resulted in the current muddle for Labour, I can’t understand the argument that it’s everyone else’s fault .... the media the public for not accepting his message. His job was to get his message out and convince people outside his bubble to vote for him. I am a life long labour voter who is a teacher.

HollysBush · 14/12/2019 08:17

YANBU. I was looking forward to having a proper adult in charge again.

nagynolonger · 14/12/2019 08:19

I am older than most on here and remember him shaking hands with IRA leaders when they were still blowing up people in pubs etc. Not just soldiers and the police (no doubt some consider that OK ), but ordinary people including children. Yes others did pose for photos after the GFA but that is what happen.

He's had his day and should bugger off into obscurity like Cameron.

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2019 08:19

He had a lot working against him in the media it is true, but his policies didn’t work for many. A confetti of promises as a Labour MP put it, hence too far left for most.

PineappleDanish · 14/12/2019 08:20

Another thread from a Labour voter who thinks that it's all because the rest of us didn't "get it".

What Momentum need to get through their skulls is that we DID listen, we DID get it, Corbyn stood TWICE as leader of his party and twice the country rejected him, last tine in a massive way.

It's not that the country doesn't get it. It's that the country does get it, and doesn't like it so therefore votes for an alternative.

MarshaBradyo · 14/12/2019 08:20

And he needs to go now. Labour has a better chance as centre left.

Costacoffeeplease · 14/12/2019 08:22

Like him if you want, I know I couldn’t have voted labour with him as leader, but you do what you want 🤷‍♀️ (I can’t vote as I left the U.K. too long ago)

Not quite sure what the point of this thread is though

Bluntness100 · 14/12/2019 08:22

He's not being smeared, why can't labour voters simply accept what's in front of their noses. It's even been confirmed that him and abbot were investigated for Ira involvement in their younger years, and watched for some considerable time by the authorities. The documents are sealed but there is a lot about this man that is unpalatable and dangerous. He's not some kindly grandfather figure and never has been.

Cremebrule · 14/12/2019 08:22

He seemed more concerned in having a purist vision than ever getting into power. That has been the problem. I didn’t disagree with policies on an individual level (and I suspect lots of people felt the same) but to try and propose everything in the manifesto at once was just always going to be a car crash.

Treaclepie19 · 14/12/2019 08:23

YANBU. I don't believe this election would have been won by anyone but BJ anyway.
I find JC inspiring and I think he is a good man. You watch videos from years ago and he's always been looking out for the people who need it.

churchandstate · 14/12/2019 08:25

The discussion around this is far too blunt. “The country” didn’t reject any party other than the Brexit Party. Labour won over 200 seats and took a third of the vote. The swing vote went to the Tories/SNP. But a clear third of the electorate supported Corbyn. If we had PR this would be a very different Saturday!

PegHughes · 14/12/2019 08:28

I think hes disgusting. It's sweeping, dismissive statements like this that bewilder me.

I understand that many people don't agree with Corbyn's politics. I know, too, that lots of people are fearful of a "lefty" or even "communist" Hmm government when, in reality, Corbyn's manifesto - if put into practice - would be no more socialist than Sweden, for example.

But "disgusting"? Really?

YANBU. I am sorry he wasn't really leader material because I think his principles were admirable. And I think he's a perfectly good bloke on a personal level.

thepeopleversuswork · 14/12/2019 08:31

YABU. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to stop the far right and create a progressive consensus and he blew it by turning Labour into an ideological cult. I don’t buy this “deeply principled man” bollocks either. He was a charlatan who did a great deal to push centrists in the party towards the Tories.

Good riddance
