Aibu: PJs with pants underneath at night?*

I do, partner does, and so do the kids. However we didn't when we were kids, and my nieces don't when they come to stay. Was reading something on the NHS site about worms recently (prompted by the wildly inappropriate 'medicating-someone-else's-kid' post a few days ago - I mean the action was inappropriate, not the "thread") and it suggested wearing pants with PJs to combat thread-worms, implying that ppl don't normally??

Aibu in that we all do wear pants with nightwear as it's basic hygiene to me ?

*Not a pants-troll, but you'll either believe me or you won't....

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

I always wear pants.

Shower clean pants, bed, wake up, clean pants, Ive never gone without

edgewater · 12/12/2019 16:23

Pants under PJs here. Otherwise it would have to be clean pjs everyday. The, um, gusset area would be utterly grim otherwise.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 12/12/2019 16:23

Also, I've never understood the 'let it breathe' argument. Unless you are sleeping in the buff with no covers, it ain't gonna breathe.

Pancakeflipper · 12/12/2019 16:23

Pants for me in Winter but not in Summer.

One child just sleeps in clean undies. The other is in PJ"s sometimes with pants sometimes without.

I wear nighties @Jingling but I still wear pants! 🤣

JinglingHellsBells · 12/12/2019 16:24

But why? You're in bed, not going shopping!

LilouBlue · 12/12/2019 16:25

I wear pants under pjs. Or if I'm not wearing pjs I just wear pants. I can't see how you're "letting air get to it" when you're under a duvet?! I can't sleep if I'm completely naked, no matter how tired I am. DP does, he'd be naked all the time if he could.

Bluerussian · 12/12/2019 16:25

It's true that children are advised to wear close fitting pants at night if there is a worm problem but not otherwise.

It's good to let the air get to your bits but wearing thin, loose fitting cotton pants with your night clothes is fine and hygienic.

ShinyGiratina · 12/12/2019 16:26

I'm not convinced how much breathing happens when my legs are together and under a duvet.

Pants on. Easier to wash pants than pyjamas!

CharlotteMD · 12/12/2019 16:26

Hate the word, pants. Reminds me of school. But no , no knickers under my cotton nightie - always hopeful of an early morning shag.

JuneJuly · 12/12/2019 16:26

I grew up 'pantless' at night - sounds wierd but YKWIM.

But now myself, dh and both dds wear pants at night with whatever nightwear (or not) we are also wearing. Never feel the need to 'air the area' & no problems from not doing so!

So, OP, we are the same as you currently are and I'm not sure why you would consider changing your ways now if it's not necessary. I, too, would feel that nightwear would need changing more often after coming into direct contact with bottoms.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 12/12/2019 16:27

Both DP and I change into loungewear when we get in from work, sometimes leaving pants on, other times not. We then sleep naked.

Growing up I always used to wear pants under PJs, and I don't think my mother would consider doing anything else, but it annoys me to be so enclosed.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 12/12/2019 16:28

I've never understood the 'let it breathe' argument. Unless you are sleeping in the buff with no covers, it ain't gonna breathe.

I agree.

What's happened to wearing nighties?

GYou can have them knee length (or shorter) or ankle length.*

Comfy, no elastic waist, air circulates, and no need for pants

Horribly uncomfortable as they ruck up and bunch. No, the air doesn't circulate because you're in bed' under covers and your legs aren't akimbo with your fanjo out and airing.

It's all personal preference though :)

LilouBlue · 12/12/2019 16:28

Oh and I'm 34, have always worn pants to bed and never once had thrush.

Bluntness100 · 12/12/2019 16:28

Do what you want but I'm always astounded at rhe people who think their arse and genitalia apparently have lungs and "breathe" or some how need an airing out. Hmm

Mlou32 · 12/12/2019 16:29

It's not really a case of YABU or YANBU, it's a case of personal preference.

Letsallcountsheep · 12/12/2019 16:29

I always wear pants with Pjs, I have never had thrush or a UTI. Clean set for night and for day. PJs change about twice a week.

TatianaLarina · 12/12/2019 16:30

But why? You're in bed, not going shopping!

Just always have. Otherwise I’d have to have a clean nightie every night.

JinglingHellsBells · 12/12/2019 16:30

I prefer to sleep naked but it's a bit chilly in the house in winter, but in summer it's lovely. To be recommended.

ButterflyBook · 12/12/2019 16:30

Comfy, no elastic waist, air circulates, and no need for pants

But I want pants. I like nice big comfy pants in bed.

areyouafraidofthedark · 12/12/2019 16:31

Never wear underwear under pjs. Don't know anyone who does tbh 🤯

kateandme · 12/12/2019 16:31

my cousin says she has to wear pants with knighties because the same dark that will get her if she puts her foot outside the bed will then fly up her knightie!

JinglingHellsBells · 12/12/2019 16:31

@TatianaLarina I really doubt that. I have never ever, being honest, found secretions on my nightie. You'd have to have a really copious discharge overnight for that to happen.

TatianaLarina · 12/12/2019 16:31

my cousin says she has to wear pants with knighties because the same dark that will get her if she puts her foot outside the bed will then fly up her knightie!

Fact.

ActualHornist · 12/12/2019 16:32

@siacolouredthesmallone
I may let foofs and willies be free
DS3 age 8 said he wanted to try sleeping in the nude a little while ago, I asked him if he liked it and he said his willy kept going ‘all over the place’ Grin
