Aibu: PJs with pants underneath at night?*

I do, partner does, and so do the kids. However we didn't when we were kids, and my nieces don't when they come to stay. Was reading something on the NHS site about worms recently (prompted by the wildly inappropriate 'medicating-someone-else's-kid' post a few days ago - I mean the action was inappropriate, not the "thread") and it suggested wearing pants with PJs to combat thread-worms, implying that ppl don't normally??

Aibu in that we all do wear pants with nightwear as it's basic hygiene to me ?

*Not a pants-troll, but you'll either believe me or you won't....

I think its important to let your bits breathe!

Spied · 12/12/2019 15:38

Pants do not belong under PJs imo.
They end up uncomfortable plus I grew up believing it was good to let a bit of air circulateGrin
Do you put in fresh pants after your bath/shower, put in your PJs and then just discard them the next morning?

siacolouredthesmallone · 12/12/2019 15:38

Yeah, I did wonder that about "bits breathing".....think it may be important too, hence I'm now torn about me pants even though me pants ain't torn Grin

I always do, otherwise the seams in my jammies hurt me.

Sirzy · 12/12/2019 15:39

I think it’s best to do whatever your comfy in and good hygiene is much more important than if someone wants to wear underwear or not

crispysausagerolls · 12/12/2019 15:40

I was always told not to wear pants under pyjamas because bits DO need to breathe blah blah. Plus you change your pyjamas don’t you; so not a huge hygiene issue!

Hate wearing pants at home actually with loungewear now - feels uncomfortable 🙈

bridgetreilly · 12/12/2019 15:40

I think if your children have got threadworm, pants are a good idea because it makes it that bit harder for them to reach down and scratch and thereby transfer eggs back to their mouths. But normally, no you don't need them and certainly for women, it's a good thing to let there be a bit more airflow.

siacolouredthesmallone · 12/12/2019 15:40

We all bath/shower, pants and PJs, then fresh pants in the morning. Yikes.....starting to sound a bit batshit even to myself.... Confused

It shows how you can make an opinion about MN and yet be totally wrong. Thought I'd get a ringing endorsement of pants tbh, and yet I may now have to change my ways instead...

It's either pants or PJs here (or nothing). Both seems really odd to me.

meredithgrey1 · 12/12/2019 15:43

Nope I don't. I find it uncomfortable

Purpleartichoke · 12/12/2019 15:43

I have very fragile skin, to the point that I’m under the care of a doctor for it. I do not wear pants under my pajamas. On the rare occasions I do for some reason, I always suffer consequences.

So instead, I wash my loose, breathable pajama bottoms at the same frequency I was pants. Hygiene issue Solved.

GingerRH · 12/12/2019 15:45

No pants under pjs - either pants or pjs, or nothing.

Need to let your bits breath.

SnuggyBuggy · 12/12/2019 15:45

I was taught that you shouldn't because it will give you thrush but I don't know how medically accurate that is

onlyoneoftheregimentinstep · 12/12/2019 15:46

I've always worn pants under PJs. As usual I seem to live in a parallel universe to Mumsnet b

PooWillyBumBum · 12/12/2019 15:46

Pants here. Mostly because otherwise bits are in constant contact with PJs so surely you need to change them as often as your pants?! We all wear PJs for 3-4 nights in a row (but change our pants!)...I feel weird if for any reason I sleep pant-less

siacolouredthesmallone · 12/12/2019 15:46

If I abandon pants, how often do I change the kids' PJs? I can work out when my own are fresh or not....

So if you go on holiday for a week do you all take 14 pairs each?!

I am a no pants person and would not be encouraging doubling the number of pants each person in the family wears a week.

I do wonder sometimes why people on MN all seem to do more laundry than me and i think it's lots of these little habits building up.

melissasummerfield · 12/12/2019 15:46

God no Shock

melissasummerfield · 12/12/2019 15:47

Clean pjs everyday for all of us tho

BuckingFrolics · 12/12/2019 15:47

Neither. Sleeping in the noddy is the only way to sleep. Try it :)

siacolouredthesmallone · 12/12/2019 15:48

Yeah....we currently wear for around 3 days. DP just said we'll have to change daily without pants. And he calls me "Howard Hughes"!!!

QueSera · 12/12/2019 15:48

Definitely NO PANTS - your nether regions need time to air out!! Pants in bed can cause thrush and god knows what else!

Thestrangestthing · 12/12/2019 15:48

I don't wear pants at all, ever.

ThisIsSanta · 12/12/2019 15:49

Pants on under PJs in the Santa house. Surely if they are pure cotton breathing should not be an issue?
