Aibu: PJs with pants underneath at night?*

I do, partner does, and so do the kids. However we didn't when we were kids, and my nieces don't when they come to stay. Was reading something on the NHS site about worms recently (prompted by the wildly inappropriate 'medicating-someone-else's-kid' post a few days ago - I mean the action was inappropriate, not the "thread") and it suggested wearing pants with PJs to combat thread-worms, implying that ppl don't normally??

Aibu in that we all do wear pants with nightwear as it's basic hygiene to me ?

*Not a pants-troll, but you'll either believe me or you won't....

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

Never owned a pair of PJs in my adult life. Far too many clothes to wear in bed. I would boil. And as for pants in bed... no thanks. I wear a short silk nightie in winter only. DH wears nothing at all.

wonkylegs · 12/12/2019 16:33

Bits needing to breathe is a myth
It's a matter of personal preference or in some cases habit.
I put my toilet training 3yo in pants in case he does a poo in bed as it a load more manageable than it rolling out a pj leg or getting squished into the fluffy pjs 🤢
My 11 prefers not to wear them
DH generally just wears boxers to bed
I like pants under pjs or nightie I feel more comfortable in them and obviously there are times of the month they are essential to hold everything in place! - always cotton and although I know it's anecdotal I've never had thrush in 40yrs.

JinglingHellsBells · 12/12/2019 16:34

For all the pant wearers, it must feel you are almost sleeping in the same amount of clothes as day time (minus a bra- but that's another thread altogether! 'How many women wear a bra in bed?' Answer- more than you think!!)

For me it's the freedom of not wearing any underwear at the end of each day that's lovely and there really is no need. When you are lying down asleep your fanjo is not pouring out gallons of juice. It really isn't.

JinglingHellsBells · 12/12/2019 16:34

I'm with you @Greenteandchives. PJs and pants is overkill and baffles me.

CeCeLaine66 · 12/12/2019 16:34

I wear pants under pjs otherwise the seams und up in places where they shouldn’t. Also don’t sleep In my bottoms as They get tangled round my legs because I’m a fidgety sleeper, so sleep in just pants and PJ top/ t shirt.

If I didn’t wear pants I would have to put them in wash everyday...this way they go 2-3 wears before going in wash.

Wafflecopter · 12/12/2019 16:35

DH doesn’t wear boxers under PJs, but I wear knickers under mine, I’ve always found it weird he doesn’t wear underwear with them.
We both sleep naked though, so it’s only for around the house, and neither of us have had thrush or infections.

JinglingHellsBells · 12/12/2019 16:35

Exception- unless there is a gorgeous man lying alongside.

Sorry but I have personal experience that it is.

Nandocushion · 12/12/2019 16:39

Haven't read all the responses, but feeling baffled at the idea of going to bed virtually fully dressed. I don't even like the idea of PJs with trouser legs or sleeves! Aren't you all boiling hot?

HicDraconis · 12/12/2019 16:40

Pants under pj’s or nightie for me! DH sleeps in pants and t shirt, boys sleep in pants mostly.

In summer it’s sometimes pants only, but always always pants!

FleetwoodMacMummy · 12/12/2019 16:40

I usually sleep without clothes but definitely wouldn't wear underwear -at most an over sized t-shirt. I had a lot of thrush ect as child/teen and was told by a Dr that it was important to let your bits breathe over night rather than it always being covered in fabric and I've never had thrush since, so that's what I do now.

TatianaLarina · 12/12/2019 16:41

I really doubt that. I have never ever, being honest, found secretions on my nightie.

Not really the point it’s just around your privates ergo needs washing.

malloo · 12/12/2019 16:42

No pants under pjs here, I like to feel free! And shock horror I dont change pjs every night! You're lying down not sitting so not much contact with your bits if nice and loose, still fresh for another day.

thenightsky · 12/12/2019 16:43

I'd rather wash 7 extra pairs of pants a week than 7 pairs of pyjamas. YANBU op.

midnightmisssuki · 12/12/2019 16:44

I’m either or - not bothered about it one way or the other. Husband doesn’t.

Pursefirst · 12/12/2019 16:45

@JinglingHellsBells I also wear a bra to bed! In fact, I have an entire "bedtime bra" drawer. I realize this may be weird to some people

I actually hate being naked (with the exception of DTD) and DH calls me a never-nude, like Tobias from Arrested Development. He, on the other hand, would never wear clothes if he had a choice.

thenightsky · 12/12/2019 16:46

If I allowed my 'bits' to breathe, they'd probably snore louder than DH knowing my luck Sad

yellowallpaper · 12/12/2019 16:47

I would because if I didn't I couldn't bear to put on the same pj bottoms a second time. I don't wear them actually, just clean pants and a t shirt

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 12/12/2019 16:47

We all wear pants under pyjamas, the same ones we’ve worn all day. Clean pyjamas every few days

I don't always wear pyjamas but when I do I do the same, and I'm happily thrush-free. When I don't wear PJs I just wear that day's pants and a vest top.

whatnow40 · 12/12/2019 16:48

I always wear pants with PJs and change my PJs every 2-3 days. DS never wears pants with PJs but has clean PJs every night. Sometimes he'd rather sleep in pants, so he'll wear a fresh pair of pants overnight and then change them in the morning.

TotHappy · 12/12/2019 16:49

You don't have to wash extra pants though. Just keep the same pants on from the day. Shower in morning. On with your pants! Keep pants on throughout changes of other garments. Pull up and down as needed . Eventually lie down to sleep, still in lovely comfy pants, with PJs on top of temperature requires. Remove in morning just before next shower.

And I only wash pajama bottoms every fortnight or so. Top a bit more often, maybe every week.

MrsToothyBitch · 12/12/2019 16:49

I sleep naked but before that only ever wore nighties to bed & always knickerless under them. I hate sleeping in knickers, I always wake up feeling stale & sweaty below. I do have quite heavy discharge but still feel much fresher knickerless.

Only sleep in undies & nightie in other peoples peoples houses, usually only the knickers if I can get away with it as more "naked", but straight in the shower in the AM.

yellowallpaper · 12/12/2019 16:50

If you've never had a problem with thrush or itchy lady/man bits with pjs and pants, then just do what you are comfortable with. I'm sure there is NO research to prove you get thrush from wearing pants and pjs.

lovemenorca · 12/12/2019 16:53

I somehow feel cosier in my knickers underneath pjs

But!!
My mother was a midwife and as a child I wasn’t allowed to wear knickers to bed because “private bits need a good airing!”

And oddly enough - I don’t like my children sleeping in their underwear!

beautifulstranger101 · 12/12/2019 16:54

Nope- never wear pants under pyjamas. That sounds so uncomfortable to me, plus I believe its good to let that area...breathe. Getting too hot in that area puts you more at risk of getting sweaty and getting thrush etc
I dont understand the worm prevention part either- if someone's butt is really itchy, a pair of pants isn't going to stop them scratching it and if you know someone has worms, then why on earth wouldn't you have treated it already?
