For everyone voting labour, how do you feel about the anti semitism associated with them?

Genuine question, not being goady.

I’ve always voted labour and would hate for tories to be re elected tomorrow. But the casual normalisation of anti Semitism scares me. I don’t want to vote someone into power who isn’t prepared to stand up for all ethnic minorities.

A lot of my left wing friends/colleagues seem to not see it as an issue, or think that as there’s more problems with racism from conservatives they are the less worse option.

U: labour supporter still voting labour
NU: labour supporter choosing alternative party

@SJaneS48 Yes, they're investigating, good- action. more than the excuses given by Labour over 5 years. Labour are being investigated by the EHCR, the Tories are not. There s a difference between a few bad apples and Institutional. The "what about" argument is a massive distraction and attempt to dismiss genuine fears within the community. When Jeremy Corbyn sat at the Labour NEC meeting and Pete Willsman went on a rant about Jews being trump supporting fanatics, something the party was later forced to suspend him for when the recording emerged, why did corbyn not speak up? Why didnt he when he was on the platform with a man uttering antisemitism in his earshot in Trafalgar square. Why didn't he see the antisemitism in the mural by mear one. Why didnt he when he wrote the introduction to the book with antisemitic content. He doesn't get the benefit of the doubt any more. True anti racists shout at the antisemites they dont share platforms, they dont dismiss it. They dont talk in conspiratorial terms. They dont use old antisemitic tropes and themes about irony....and that's not even the half of it.
For the record, I’m no Boris fan and won't be voting Tory tomorrow either.

Katharinblum · 11/12/2019 22:52

Half jewish too and voting labour. Anybody remember the vitriol ralf milliband got when ed milliband was the labour leader ? He was a well respected academic who incidentally happened to be socialist and jewish. Daily mail etc were quite happy to accuse him of 'not loving his country'. No accusations of anti semitism then obviously !

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 11/12/2019 22:57

I can’t read this whole thread .. I’ve bern active in left politics all my life, (non party political) and equality work. Direct action, community grassroots politics.
Anti semitism in the Labour Party exists, of course, as does sexism, racism and everything that is a microcosm of the culture we live in.
However, it is weaponised at the moment to purge the party of all left wing supporters of corbynand the current agenda. They could t get him or us, on anything else, but this seems to have stuck.
Don’t believe what you read ... ask yourself why a man and his supporters are hounded to within an inch of total despair by the right wing press, media and establishment. In and out of the party.
I have a long list of evidence to show why this is all total and utter xxxxxxxxxx if you want me to post it.
Vote labour.

cochineal7 · 11/12/2019 23:02

I am copying this from Peter Oborne's (Conservative) opinion piece today:

"In normal circumstances I would never vote for Labour, let alone Corbyn. I still wouldn’t if I believed the terrible charge that he is an antisemite. There is a problem of antisemitism in the Labour party. And Corbyn has handled the problem badly.

I don’t deny the dreadful actions of some members of his party, but I’m not aware of evidence of Corbyn using derogatory language about Jewish people in the way that Boris Johnson routinely has against black people, gay people and Muslims.

Imagine the collective denunciations of Corbyn had he been guilty of the racist and homophobic remarks attributable to Johnson: phrases such as “piccanninies”, “watermelon smiles” and “bumboys”. There’s a double standard here."

StoneofDestiny · 11/12/2019 23:03

why did corbyn not speak up?

So you are happy to vote for a Prime Minister who has proven he is anti Islamic and refused to apologise for it. So blatant racism - out of his own mouth - not another speaker near him to blame!

Mind you - Tories don't care that Johnson's views are so heinous he dare not turn up on TV to be scrutinised about them. Fellow obnoxious Tories like Rees Mogg have been shut away til voting is over because his views are equally vile.

JanesKettle · 11/12/2019 23:07

Anti-semitism is tolerated broadly on the movements on the left as well as the right.

It's also present and tolerated on Mumsnet.

YANBU.

I think it's the only thing the Tories have to spin a negative on Labour. There is racism in every party unfortunately. As in life. But I believe Corbyn is genuinely dealing with it. Is Boris?

Ohyesiam · 11/12/2019 23:13

I’ve tell like shit. But it would be relatively easy to set to processes that would effectively deal with it,
where as the damage the tories will do to the country will be irredeemable.

ErickBroch · 11/12/2019 23:14

Criticising Israel does not make you an anti-semite, despite what Israel want you to be believe. Supporting the rights of Palestinians doesn't mean you hate Jewish people.

dontmesswiththeGC · 11/12/2019 23:14

Last post before I go to bed. But I urge all of those who aren't Jewish or who are posting articles written by people who are not Jewish to actually listen to what the Jewish community is saying and feeling. The irony is that so much of what I see about how the Jewish community is feeling is made even worse by others dismissing and delegitimising it. Who are non-Jews to define what is and isn't anti-semitism? Or just to dismiss it as 'everywhere'? Would we do this to other minorities? This tweet from David baddiel whilst quite inflammatory probably defines what I am hearing from community quite well. Sorry if it hits a nerve but I don't think a lot of people see this side of the discussion...from those personally affected, especially if you're from an area where there aren't many Jewish people.

For everyone voting labour, how do you feel about the anti semitism associated with them?
EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 11/12/2019 23:14

Alister Campbell was kicked out of the Labour Party a few days after he admitted to voting LibDems

Ken Livingstone walked away after an on going investigation over a few years Hmm most of us heard the interview and his defense of what he said

That’s the Labour Party now. Not a party I will vote for (and no not voting Conservative eitber) and why I am so bothered is because I have been a party member for years

everythingisginandroses · 11/12/2019 23:15

What Peter Oborne said (as above). Perhaps Oborne is voting for us? Xmas Confused Xmas Shock Xmas Grin

Mimishimi · 11/12/2019 23:15

I'm terrified of everyone at the moment. We're not even Jewish - we're Irish but we've been mistaken (or not even mistaken- just rounded up the same - eg Black and Tans) as such in the past. It's coming to a big bloody mess. General war in the Middle East and a lot of questioning about the end goals of the last world war have not helped at all.

JeffreyJefferson · 11/12/2019 23:16

How is it if Labour are so anti semitic the last leader was a Jew? and it was between him and his Jewish brother. The party voted for Jews. Grow up.

dontmesswiththeGC · 11/12/2019 23:18

@LittleMissMe99 please read the article I posted. He is doing nothing to deal with it, he ignores it, turns his head, befriends those who want all Jews dead. Jewish labour members have left in droves because the man stands by and does nothing. The party is under investigation cause of his lack of action. This is the problem

The former speaker of the house John Bercow disagrees with you. And he's Jewish himself. He's also not afraid to speak his mind.

Tillygetsit · 11/12/2019 23:24

BJ is an out and out racist. How is that better?

noblegiraffe · 11/12/2019 23:24

Luciana Berger disagrees with John Bercow.

Which is why the EHRC investigation isn’t based on the opinion of individuals.

dontmesswiththeGC · 11/12/2019 23:25

@JeffreyJefferson grow up? You're telling a minority who are genuinely fearful for their future in this country due to racism against them to grow up? When I hear things like that my stomach drops and that's when I know this is a real and legitimate worry. it’s a VERY different Labour to what it was back then - hence why most of the Jewish Labour members have been forced out. Corbyns Labour is a cult of anti Semites and apologists for anti semites.sadly the dynamic has changed and this man has allowed anti semitism to fester and grow. I'll direct you to the article I posted and see if someone who is so grown up might be open to trying to learn about something they currently know nothing about.
