I just don't get it, pair of talentless twunts but become nations darlings over past 20 years, the epitomise what is wrong with ITV which is all about egos.

What ever they are on is total rubbish.

OP posts:
Panpastels · 09/12/2019 00:17

I've always found them very likeable.

Because of this I can't understand why he's even on TV any more. The drink driving was unforgivable.

@Aragog

Because most people don't lose their job and their career because of this. Unless their job involved driving then very very few people will lose their job for a drink driving offence. They get the punishment from the courts and serve that, and are able to return to their normal job.

Exactly. The demonising of Ant is ridiculous. Some people clearly hate him for some reason, but you cannot deny he had a suitable punishment for what he did, and what resulted from it. He made a stupid mistake, and was punished by the courts, and banned from driving, and took his sentence. Some people won't be happy until he is sacked, publicly flogged, and then hung, drawn and quartered. Pathetic.

And as a pp said, the poster saying 'the law may forgive him but I don't!' is being ridiculous! Like Ant cares!!! Wink He doesn't need or want forgiveness from some random nobody on a message forum. Some people are really so full of their own self importance!

@LostInMeetings

I wonder if he'd killed somebody, likely as he was drunk driving, would people be so forgiving?

Moot point?? Strawman?? Irrelevant guff?? Take your pick. Because he didn't kill anybody DID he? Just like the vast majority of the multiple 10s of 1000s of people who do 20 or 30 mph over the speed limit every day. Most of THEM never kill or even harm anyone. They are still breaking the law though. Yet they are not punished because they are not caught! (Most of them!!!) Ant WAS caught, AND punished.

WTF do you expect to happen? As many posters have said, Ant was caught, and punished, and has taken the punishment the courts dished out. Nothing else is going to happen to him, and nothing else SHOULD. So deal with it. (That goes to all the other haters too.)

fligglepige · 09/12/2019 00:22

Dec is definitely the strongest of the pair but he is funnier with Ant. He's still great without him but in a generic presenter kind of way. I think Dec is just lovely, he seems like such a kind, sensible bloke. They're great on I'm a Celeb.

Roussette · 09/12/2019 05:41

MistyCloud Totally agree.

Some people are just so pious about him and this. I presume they have never put a foot wrong in their entire lives and are models of society that we can revere.

The bloke made a mistake, a bad one, he accepted his punishment. The End.

Doubleraspberry · 09/12/2019 07:25

I’m sure Ant, and Ant’s management, do care what people think, because if people decide in numbers that they don’t want to watch him, his career is in trouble.

I’m sure he could rest on his production millions but he clearly doesn’t want to, or he could have disappeared last year.

That’s the point of being popular entertainment; you have to be popular. It all seems to be going OK at the moment but he must be very aware that any future slip could be the end of it all, which is huge pressure on him.

My main personal feeling on the whole thing is that I don’t like the coats his girlfriend wears.

Holdingtherope · 09/12/2019 08:31

Wonder what age Ann Marie kids ate. Hard taking older kids on. Had she split from her husband before?

FoamingAtTheUterus · 09/12/2019 08:45

Can't stand either of them but can't really judge him for saying he was in a miserable relationship..........I think he's been pretty dignified compared to his ex tbh.

LostInMeetings · 09/12/2019 09:01

@MistyCloud I wonder if you would be so forgiving if it was your neighbour, a parent from school, or is it just celebrities who get a free pass?

I don't watch anything either of them would likely be in so I'm just wondering, and I find the thought process behind free pass for celebrities fascinating.

FrauleinF · 09/12/2019 09:08

@LostInMeetings

You've hit the nail on the head. I can't imagine being similarly breezy about anyone else drink driving and crashing. Even family, or the friends I've known for upwards of 20 years. Particularly when they don't seem particularly contrite about it.

All those of you basically saying "let he who is without sin cast the first stone", well not all wrongdoing is created equal - yes, we all might have swerved our round at the pub, but how many of you have then been done for drink driving and ploughing into another car?

LostInMeetings · 09/12/2019 09:14

Also in the cars he hit. In one was a 9 year old boy, in the other a 4 year old girl. If it was your siblings car he hit and it was your niece or nephew that got hurt, would that make a difference to your feelings?

Sparklingbrook · 09/12/2019 09:36

So what would people want to happen to him now?

Yesmate · 09/12/2019 09:46

Don’t watch them if you don’t like them but don’t act like anything more should have happened to Ant. He got punished for what he did. Same as anyone would have. How many people would have lost their jobs through drink driving, only those that drive fore a living. No one else. Don’t be so judgy. I cannot abide drink driving, it is selfish and never necessary but I have made other mistakes in my life as I’m sure you are. Bore off with your judgy comments.

AlexaAmbidextra · 09/12/2019 09:48

Dislike them a you want but they aren't talentless.

In your opinion. You have yours, I have mine.

Yesmate · 09/12/2019 09:49

Also to the poster who said they should step down, as well as Phil and Holly, to give others a chance. Not exactly how life works is it. I want a promotion or a different job I have to work for it and wait for a vacancy. Not have someone step down because it’s my turn 🙄

Samcro · 09/12/2019 09:49

maybe he gets vilified for the way he treated his wife(don't think they are divorced yet) because he cheated on her with their PA.
strange that other celebs get slated for the sort of stuff he has done, but its all poor Ant.

fligglepige · 09/12/2019 09:51

'MistyCloud I wonder if you would be so forgiving if it was your neighbour, a parent from school, or is it just celebrities who get a free pass?'

It's not really up to us to forgive neighbours or parents from school or celebrities for drink driving is it? Confused

Yesmate · 09/12/2019 09:55

So he’s the only person in the public eye that has cheated? The Prime Minister cheated all through his marriage and no one is crying about that

thatguiltyfeeling · 09/12/2019 09:58

I don't like ant because of the drink driving, but their comments all through I'm a celeb about the celebs appearances and things they can't help really enraged me. Never really watched anything with them in before and I wasn't missing anything either

Samcro · 09/12/2019 09:58

Yesmate don't like him either.

HappydaysArehere · 09/12/2019 10:34

Fed up with the amount of tv programmes they are on. That Santander advert annoys me - all that money they must earn and they have to do that! As said above, they are okay but so are lots of other presenters. Used to love Celebrity but fed up with the format and predictability so didn’t watch at all this time.

LostInMeetings · 09/12/2019 11:52

fligglepige

No, but I certainly would keep my distance, and wouldn't let my DC be around them on playdates etc
Really you can do Confused faces all you like but some people will skirt round it and make excuses for him.
The fact is he drunk drove and it was sheer luck not his judgement that nobody was seriously hurt.

Sparklingbrook
So what would people want to happen to him now?

I personally don't think he should be on TV now. He is in the public eye and on programmes where he is looked up to.
He should fade away from the public eye imo, but he has no shame. It's not like he needs the money so he could easily slip out of public life.

Bluerussian · 09/12/2019 12:20

I think Ant and Dec are great presenters and good fun. I'm so glad Ant has managed to climb out of the awful abyss he got into and it's good to see them on form again.

Agree that IACGMOOH is a bit of a tired format, same old stuff year after year and needs a face lift but that's hardly Ant and Dec's fault.

.......
Quite agree with above comments.

Honestly, there is no one alive who has not done something wrong and regretted it. It doesn't make them a bad person overall. Where's the compassion? Anyway Ant seems OK now, happy and has a sound, new relationship and I wish him every success.

6utter6ean · 09/12/2019 12:31

I don't usually watch ITV but this year my DS wanted to watch IACGMOOH. I was surprised at how much I liked them. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch other shows that they're in, but I thought they were skilled at doing what they do.

LostInMeetings · 09/12/2019 12:38

Bluerussian
Where's the compassion?

You have illustrated my point perfectly with this one statement.

Celebrity = Compassion, forgiveness, understanding.
Joe Bloggs down the road = Drunk drive wanker.

Interesting.
