AIBU to tell colleague they’re a spitting image of an infamous killer

Said new colleague looks so much like Chris Watts it’s alarming... followed this case closely & while it wasn’t massive news in my country it does get press. It was well known worldwide. I feel like if someone looked like Dahmer or Bundy it would be ok to say...but considering it’s a fairly recent case & the grim circumstances of it, is it best left unsaid? It’s constantly on the tip of my tongue wanting to spill out this odd information. But he is quite reserved like the real Chris Watts so it might make him uncomfortable!

Yes Chris Watts just looks like a bog standard slightly above average looking thirty something man. Hardly comment worthy tbh.

But he is quite reserved like the real Chris Watts so it might make him uncomfortable!

Do you know Chris Watts personally then Confused

Your whole OP is just weird tbh.

Oh, and yes YWBU to say anything, if that wasn't clear!

HelloYouTwo · 27/10/2019 11:03

You’ll mainly make yourself look stupid if you say this OP. What exactly is he supposed to reply when you offer up this gem of a conversation opener?

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 11:04

True, you wouldn’t want to be told you looked like Rose West (dowdy) or Myra Hindley (chilling stare in that infamous pic)

Will keep it to myself then !

Watts doesn’t have an unusual look per se but this guy is his exact doppleganger, not just a general resemblance.

GaraMedouar · 27/10/2019 11:04

I also had to google Chris Watts - had never heard of him. But I’m in the UK. Wouldn’t tell him, no.

Ellisandra · 27/10/2019 11:05

Had to google, as I’m in the UK and not disturbingly interested in US murders.
I doubt what he looks like is common here.

He wasn’t a serial killer though. He murdered his family, doesn’t fit the definition.

So - lucky for your colleague, hey!

1066vegan · 27/10/2019 11:05

I'm guessing you're in the US, OP. I had to Google the name. It didn't even spark a vague glimmer of recognition. Very sad case.

Why on earth would you tell a colleague that he looks like somebody who murdered his family? How would you expect him to react? Wouldn't he be left wondering if everyone he meets is thinking the same thing?

Ridiculous idea. Of course you shouldn't do it.

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 11:05

@PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind have you even watched a single doco on the case, his reserved nature was part of his persona.

OP posts:
Ellisandra · 27/10/2019 11:06

Oh I’m now PMSL at the idea that you wouldn’t want to be told you looked like Rose West, because she’s dowdy.

Yeah, that’d be my primary concern, realising I had crap dress sense Grin

Winterdaysarehere · 27/10/2019 11:06

Op you have indeed mentioned my Mil's doppelganger!!

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 11:09

Ian Brady was arguably easy enough on the eye, but are you sure those in the UK would not be unsettled to interact with someone who essentially looked like their twin ?

Am in Australia & it gets press here but not so much now the case is over. YouTube is another story & even Dr Phil has covered it in his new podcast. So it is pretty mainstream over there I imagine

OP posts:
Oldraver · 27/10/2019 11:09

No dont say anything. My Mum worked with someone who was a spit of Rose West right down to the oversized glasses. She said you could always see people do a double take ie if they went out for a meal but no one ever bought it up

Ellisandra · 27/10/2019 11:10

“have you even watched a single doco (sic)”

No, most people haven’t. Because most people don’t have a prurient interest in people’s murders. I find the naming of the victims here a bit distasteful - claiming a sort of closeness, or like you really care, when really what you like is the salacious detail of ‘true crime’. Understanding it so it doesn’t happen again, my arse. Other people’s lives and deaths as entertainment, more like.

KurriKurri · 27/10/2019 11:10

Had to google Chris Watts - as others have said, he has a very generic look - I imgine plenty of guys look similar - beards make people look similar.
But regardless - why on earth would you tell someone this - what can possibly be gained from sharing this observation ? ( individual opinion in fact) how bizarre.
Even more bizarre is that you think if he looked like Dahmer or Bundy it woul dbe fine to tell him. Why? What is going on in your head if you think telling people they look like serial killers makes good conversation ?

ThighThighOfthigh · 27/10/2019 11:11

I think the idea of a serial killer party is wonderful, what prize do you give the winner? More importantly, how not to piss off the losers. They might kill you. I'd come as BTK all trussed up and strangling myself whilst wearing a girdle.

Rockbird · 27/10/2019 11:12

Friend of mine said that everyone says she looks like Myra Hindley. She's not bothered in the slightest.

Spidey66 · 27/10/2019 11:14

Why would you say that ffs?

Someone came to my office for a meeting the other day, who was the spit of Jarvis Cocker, only shorter. When I said it, he smiled and said everyone said that and he was pleased cos Jarvis is cool.

I also told someone in my local he was the spit of Neil Morrissey. Turns out it [was] Neil Morrissey.

Spidey66 · 27/10/2019 11:14

Bold fail.

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2019 11:14

I've just googled him.

He's a good looking bloke but with a very common look. I've seen lots of men who look like him.

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 11:15

@Winterdaysarehere have you managed to keep “mum” about this fact ??

Yes he is not a serial killer. He falls under the sick category of “family annihilators” which are really disturbing cases, however the true crime community is actually full of caring people who want to hear about the victims & remember them.

But can see how it seems odd to just bring that up so I won’t.

OP posts:
JumpyLiz · 27/10/2019 11:16

Do you often make it all about you?

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2019 11:16

There's a 'True crime community'??

Blimey, how distasteful.

BeesKnees4 · 27/10/2019 11:20

@SimonJT
I’m preferring your boss lookylike 🤣🤣

MistyMinge2 · 27/10/2019 11:20

Well I've just googled him and wish I hadn't. Those poor little girls.

FFS definitely don't tell him. Would be completely wierd.

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 11:20

Hahaha @ Morrissey sighting

They are the most well known & arguably two most handsome ? You would rather be them than Gacy, he looked like a toad.

Interesting poster above has a friend who is often told she looks like Hindley.

OP posts:
Butchyrestingface · 27/10/2019 11:20

You seem a touch preoccupied with this case, OP. Do you see Chris Watts in the faces of people wherever you go? Grin
