AIBU to tell colleague they’re a spitting image of an infamous killer

Said new colleague looks so much like Chris Watts it’s alarming... followed this case closely & while it wasn’t massive news in my country it does get press. It was well known worldwide. I feel like if someone looked like Dahmer or Bundy it would be ok to say...but considering it’s a fairly recent case & the grim circumstances of it, is it best left unsaid? It’s constantly on the tip of my tongue wanting to spill out this odd information. But he is quite reserved like the real Chris Watts so it might make him uncomfortable!

Well in our country we try to honour the victims more in press coverage & Uk docos too. American press coverage tends to glorify killers. Ivan Milat died today & am sorry to have thought the families would be upset with Aussies remembering the victims, some of whom were UK backpackers. Because there has been ongoing coverage today. I can’t imagine what it’s like for families to have it dredged up again & sorry for this thread taking a turn or upsetting anyone. Please know true crimers are not all weirdos & fetishise murders. I urge you to watch Stephanie harlowe or Kendall Rae they are more my style & in the spirit of what am more about

Also no have not been watching thrive videos

Well we could make a discussion that most news media is a form of vampirism isn’t it

There are times in life when you just need to keep your thoughts to yourself - this is one of them. There are some people who have no understanding of this and think all their thoughts need to be heard by everyone - you sound like one of them Hmm

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 12:14

Yet am here asking whether should say it or not Hmm

WorraLiberty · 27/10/2019 12:16

Yes, that's how I see it butterybiscuitbasic. Not nice at all for the families of the victims.

Pinkblueberry · 27/10/2019 12:17

Well I suppose that’s a step in the right direction - still, the fact that you need to ask...

EdWinchester · 27/10/2019 12:17

Never heard of him. Had to google.

Why on earth would you want to tell someone this? All that's going to happen is they're going to think you a weirdo.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/10/2019 12:18

I wouldn't count myself as one of the professionally offended, but I do find this thread uncomfortable reading, having now Googled him. Presumably none of you would make similar jokes about the James Bulger murder (at least I hope not), so why is this fair game?

AloeVeraLynn · 27/10/2019 12:19

It's odd that you even had to ask if it was an acceptable thing to say. Do you generally lack social boundaries?
You come across as one of those attention seeking "I'm into serial killers aren't I so edgy" individuals. Very boring.
True crime "community" is also cringeworthy. Real people have lost their lives. Its not entertainment for ghouls like you.

Namechanging2019 · 27/10/2019 12:19

@prawnsword

You're sounding more unhinged with every post. And I say that as someone with a Criminal Justice degree and a career in the field...

RhiWrites · 27/10/2019 12:20

Indeed, here you are, but it’s odd that you’d need to ask. “Shall I tell a colleague they look like a person who brutally murdered their family?” is a new one for AIBU. What purpose or benefit could it possibly serve to tell them this?

57Varieties · 27/10/2019 12:21

Jesus wept no don’t tell him ffs

My parents used to have a neighbour who was a dead ringer for the Yorkshire Ripper. Naturally, my parents nicknamed him Sutcliffe. I used to also work with a guy who looked like Harold Shipman and i had a lecturer who looked like Gerry Adams. Why these guys don’t shave off their beards I don’t know!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 27/10/2019 12:21

Keep it to yourself

No one wants to hear they look like someone famous unless they are considered very good looking

Unless it’s helpful Ted Bundy/Dennis in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

MuchBetterNow · 27/10/2019 12:24

You are spectacularly pompous op "true crime community" what utter bollocks. And as for your actual "question" no one with an ounce of common sense or emotional intelligence would mention this to a colleague or anyone else.

Your clear reason for posting is to rake over a case you're clearly obsessed with, even though you have absolutely no personal connection and it didn't even happen in the continent you live in.

You're nasty and weird frankly.

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 12:26

nicknamed the neighbour “sutcliffe” lol
No dislike being identified as a true crime watcher, though will admit to watching dexter. Am surely not the only true crimer/mumsnetter though

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 12:29

Nasty & weird ...threads have a life of their own & this is a discussion which has bounced to several different sub-topics. This forum moves quite fast & lots of posters, am not sure why am “nasty” though will accept “weird” Lol

OP posts:
prawnsword · 27/10/2019 12:29

Also if you have Netflix am fairly certain true crime is a genre on there?

OP posts:
butterybiscuitbasic · 27/10/2019 12:32

I’m starting to imagine the conversation if you did tell him
“You look like xx”
Him “who?”
You... long strange explanation...

Op don’t tell him

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 27/10/2019 12:34

I find human behaviour fascinating - the darker side is interesting

Are we not meant to admit that Confused

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 27/10/2019 12:35

He can’t be that infamous as I’ve never heard of him.

I thought you were going to say he was the spitting image of Fred West or Harold shipman.

Not in Aus, but in the UK, this wouldn’t go down well at all. It’s very rude unless you know the person well.

And being ‘reserved’ was not part of Chris Watt’s persona at all. Not sure what you mean by that?

ToothlessIsMySpiritAnimal · 27/10/2019 12:44

I once told someone he looked exactly like Gru from Despicable Me (he really honestly did). Didn't go well....

BarbaraStrozzi · 27/10/2019 12:44

Why, just why would anyone want to do this?

I've read all your posts OP, and frankly you come across as an attention seeking weirdo. I'm very glad you're not one of my colleagues.

Killmeelmo · 27/10/2019 12:46

@prettycolours

This reminded me of Big Brother years ago when Craig Coates got upset because the housemates told him he looked like Myra Hindley with the blonde wig he had on.

That's exactly what I thought reading this 😂
