AIBU to tell colleague they’re a spitting image of an infamous killer

Said new colleague looks so much like Chris Watts it’s alarming... followed this case closely & while it wasn’t massive news in my country it does get press. It was well known worldwide. I feel like if someone looked like Dahmer or Bundy it would be ok to say...but considering it’s a fairly recent case & the grim circumstances of it, is it best left unsaid? It’s constantly on the tip of my tongue wanting to spill out this odd information. But he is quite reserved like the real Chris Watts so it might make him uncomfortable!

I’d keep it to myself

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 10:50

I’m trying

I don't think he is that well known to be honest. I only know who he is as a Facebook friend was the wife's friend.

Singlebutmarried · 27/10/2019 10:50

You could hold a welcome party for your colleague, and theme it ‘come as your favourite serial killer’

Not need to actually mention it then.

MrGsFancyNewVagina · 27/10/2019 10:50

Christ on a bike! Why would you even think of saying this to the poor man? Leave him alone.

Duchessgummybuns · 27/10/2019 10:50

Don’t say it out loud fgs

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 10:51

Maybe should reword it - “AIBU to be unsettled by colleague who is a dead ringer for an infamous killer”

Chris Watts has a common look.

Keep your thoughts to yourself. What do you hope to achieve, unless you think CW has escaped from US jail.

Pannalash · 27/10/2019 10:51

Seriously? Shock

Petrichor11 · 27/10/2019 10:52

It’s not anything he can change so YWBU to mention it.

Aquamarine1029 · 27/10/2019 10:52

Why on earth would you even think to tell him this? FFS.

BritishHorrorStory · 27/10/2019 10:53

Erm, yeah, because everyone likes to be told they look like a serial killer Hmm

SimonJT · 27/10/2019 10:53

Keep this one to yourself!

My (female) boss looks like Elton John, it’s the unspoken elephant in the room.

I look like someone I don’t particularly like as he isn’t a very nice person, not a serial killer and I don’t particularly like it when people have pointed it out, or worse, asked for an autograph.

Joerev · 27/10/2019 10:54

The wife was on one of the groups I run. Scary and so sad.

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 27/10/2019 10:55

No. No it wouldn't.

Honestly, op, you're being really weird about this. Telling someone they look like a famous murderer is bizarre and rude. Why do you think this will be a good topic of conversation?? Would you like it if someone told you you were the spitting image of Rose West?

Nine times out of ten, commenting on someones appearance is a bad idea anyway. Keep it to yourself.

alwaysstressed · 27/10/2019 10:55

Are you single because ive just googled him and if he does look like him, despite what he did, he's quite the hunk! I say get in there! If your single Wink

Butchyrestingface · 27/10/2019 10:55

Chris Watts isn't really a distinctive looking person. He must have hunners of dopplegangers running around poor buggers.

That said, you could tell him the similarity is uncanny and ask whether they're related. Even if he says no, say things like "only six degrees of separation..." whilst tapping your nose and winking. Then ask if he has any insights into his brother-by-another-mother's behaviour and what he thinks of the case.

That'll help him settle in. Smile

Muuuuuuuum · 27/10/2019 10:55

Why would you want to tell someone this?

If someone was to tell me I looked like Myra Hindley I would find it really odd, even though it's an old and high profile case.

If it was a lesser known case, I'd just think they were weird for pointing it out and had a fascination with serial killers.

If you then told me you'd hesitated to tell me as my personality was similar to the killer I would absolutely think WTF and avoid you going forward.

StCharlotte · 27/10/2019 10:57

Had to Google Chris Watts.

prawnsword · 27/10/2019 10:58

@SimonJT cackling away at that one! that must be one big silent joke in the office, oh dear...

So many of us here are affected by narcissism / toxic relationships & it’s important to remember Shan’Ann Bella & Cece, maybe there are things we can hopefully learn or warning signs to keep us safe from dangerous men.

Christ, now you're being even weirder.

Yes, you are BU. He looks (a bit) like a famous murderer, so you feel "unsettled"? And you want to tell him this because....why?

Butchyrestingface · 27/10/2019 10:59

Had to Google Chris Watts.

You might have but the legions of American women sending him fan mail, underwear and marriage proposals in the post last summer apparently didn't have to. 🤮

Winterdaysarehere · 27/10/2019 10:59

My mil looks very much like a serial killer.
Luckily we are nc with her!!

Butchyrestingface · 27/10/2019 10:59

Are you in the US, @prawnsword?

Actionhasmagic · 27/10/2019 11:01

He will probably feel bad if you say this. Why would you want to make someone feel bad about how they look?
