We are on weekend break. We have only just arrived after a ridiculous long detour because DH is a slave to the satnav. He unpacked the car, I said 'Where's the rucksack?' and he said 'What rucksack?' It has my hairbrush, medication, books, phone charger, toothbrush, earplugs, mascara, deodorant etc etc.. It wouldn't all fit in the suitcase. The suitcase contains nothing but damp clothes. Would I be unreasonable to kill him?

OP posts:
adaline · 18/10/2019 22:23

I wouldn't rely on another adult to pack my things, even if they were all in the pile to go in the car.

My stuff is important to me (like you, I take medication) so it's my responsibility to make sure I have everything I need.

RoomR0613 · 18/10/2019 22:24

Whereabouts are you? Perhaps we could suggest nearby places you could get some supplies from?

LittleLongDog · 18/10/2019 22:24

Nighmare!

Call 111 for an emergency prescription. But be prepared for it to be a faff.

Justaboy · 18/10/2019 22:29

Just a tip if and only if its really important and it must come with you put the car keys in it that way you shouldnt go without it. Works for me when out on site:)

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 18/10/2019 22:29

You planned on taking damp clothes on holiday

And you didn’t turn round for a nanosecond and check that everything in the “dumping area for all bags” had bee picked up..?

So if your bag was properly packed in the hall, and yet you managed to step over it....it’s on you.

And the damp clothes thing is so outside my remit that we should probably blame it on Boris Johnstone

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 18/10/2019 22:30

I think it would take longer to sort out an emergency prescription on a weekend than to just go back and get it.

Tellmetruth4 · 18/10/2019 22:31

You’re getting a hard time OP. I pretty much wash, dry and pack everything apart from DH clothes (wash, dry but don’t pack). He says he’s best at packing the car so I put everything together and he loads it in. I always do a last check for peace of mind but I’d expect him to have packed all bags in hallway into the car. We have our holiday jobs split and that’s his job.

Justaboy · 18/10/2019 22:31

FWIW if the meds are that important can't you have an emergency backup stash in the car so if you are caught short?.

LittleLongDog · 18/10/2019 22:32

You planned on taking damp clothes on holiday
😂 Obviously not. OP’s already explained they just weren’t dry in time.

KatyCarrCan · 18/10/2019 22:33

Neither of you left enough time for the clothes to be dry and then (between you both) you managed to forget the rucksack . . .as someone who has printed itineraries and coloured folders for weekends away, I'm Shock at you both.

I think if OP has an arrangement that she puts travel bags in the hallway and her DH puts them in the car then it's definitely her DH who has not packed her bag.

OP I feel you've had some (typically Friday night) harsh replies, don't take them to heart. Try and enjoy the evening anyway, hang up your damp clothes so you have something clean to wear in the morning and then figure out the nearest supermarket to stock up on toiletry basics and books etc first thing. The medication element is trickier obviously, only you will know if you can or can't manage without it.

But yes, I would be furious. I wouldn't necessarily take it out on DH and spoil the weekend but it's only human to feel annoyed that you've arrived at your destination without your favourite items and essentials.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 18/10/2019 22:34

I'd see if I could get call and get some medication from a 24 hour pharmacy before driving back.

Cryalot2 · 18/10/2019 22:38

How serious are your meds? Can they be done without? Can you go to a local chemist and explain and have a prescription faxed to them for such . Your normal chemist could vouch and give details.
I always keep a supply in my handbag
Have a good time.

minesagin37 · 18/10/2019 22:40

Lesson learned- don't leave him to pack the car. Do it yourself.

Purpleartichoke · 18/10/2019 22:42

We use this method too: I pack the bags and pile them together. DH loads them in them In the car. Since I have already done 98% of the trip prep, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for him to load the vehicle independently and fully.

GettingABitDesperateNow · 18/10/2019 22:44

If course its shit if you've done all the planning and packing and he cant even lift everything from point A (5metres from th4 car) to point B (the car) but on the internet you have to accept that men are poor helpless soles and you have to supervise them and finish the jobs they cant, rather than than them to actually do what they promised.

Saying that I may have checked my meds if they were essential. Saying that, if it makes you feel any better, me and my husband have forgotten my daughters coat before on a winter holiday and she had to walk about in one of our fleeces for a week which looked like a Victorian workhouse dress on her.

GettingABitDesperateNow · 18/10/2019 22:45

Double saying that, clearly I am too much of an imbicle for any kind of packing

Crunchymum · 18/10/2019 22:46

What is the medication and can you go without?

Hate the idea of someone's incompetence clogging up the system.

Damp clothes? Why? What I mean is why if you knew you were going away, are they not dry?

Have you really needed to pack that much stuff you needed an extra bag?

ChicCroissant · 18/10/2019 22:48

They didn't pack until just before they left though, so it would seem to be more of a 50/50 split here.

Are you sure you can't get an emergency supply of the meds tomorrow morning, OP?

AdobeWanKenobi · 18/10/2019 22:48

I used this method once when ds was about two. The new buggy we had to buy at our destination certainly ate into the Spending money.

4yearsnosleep · 18/10/2019 22:48

This happened to me. We were travelling 2.5 hours for me to run a 1/2 marathon. I packed everything, left it in the hall. I make coffees, husband packed the car and left behind my bag of running kit. Yes we were both responsible but I ended up having to run in brand new running trainers 😬🤷🏽‍♀️😩 you have my sympathy OP

Toffeecakes · 18/10/2019 22:52

For the sake of 4ish hours I’d just go back and get the medication if it was something I relied on. Other than that, I’d find Tesco to cover the other stuff and then laugh about it. It is quite funny really!

TatianaLarina · 18/10/2019 22:54

We have the same system, where I put my bags in the hallway and DH packs them in the car. I’m not delegating responsibility for my stuff, it’s a joint effort. If he didn’t pack one of the bags I left there, I’d be pretty pissed off too.

Yeah us too.

Pinkyyy · 18/10/2019 22:55

It's your fault, nobody else's.
