Since its close to Halloween and all :) Please tell me the best scary movie you have seen recently and even better if it is on netflix!

Brimstone. Not a horror per se, but horrifying.

peoplearepeople · 15/10/2019 17:34

I've seen a lot of horror film and most have pretty much no impact on me. Supernatural/ghost stuff especially just doesn't scare me.
The following films really stuck with me for some reason though. Maybe because there seemed to be something a bit more believable about them!

Creep 1 and 2.(2014) - Quite slow but worth sticking with. Pretty sure this was on netflix last time I checked. - www.imdb.com/title/tt2428170/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_1

Another totally different film called Creep!(2004) - About a woman who gets stuck down in the London underground overnight.
www.imdb.com/title/tt0381966/?ref_=fn_tt_tt_2

Eden Lake (2008) - A couple on a romantic holiday being terrorised by a group of teenagers. The ending is just awful - www.imdb.com/title/tt1020530/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1

Wolf creek (2005) -Backpacking in the oz outback. www.imdb.com/title/tt0416315/?ref_=tt_sims_tt

The Descent (2005) - Potholing gone very very wrong. www.imdb.com/title/tt0435625/?ref_=nv_sr_2?ref_=nv_sr_2

The conjuring 1 and 2
Paranormal activity
The excorcism of Emily rose
Orphan
Sinister

thethoughtfox · 15/10/2019 17:39

peoplearepeople has great taste. The last three are 3 of my favourites.

thethoughtfox · 15/10/2019 17:39

Martyrs is great and stayed with me. The French one, not the American remake.

HairyFloppins · 15/10/2019 17:40

Not a big fan of horrors but I noticed Orphan is on Netflix and there is a very similar story in the news the moment.

My 17 year old watched Babadook and I happened to be in the room, that was bloody creepy.

Eden Lake I enjoyed.

Jeepers Creepers, good old classic.

Not horrors as such but the Final Destination movies are my favourites.

Mouikey · 15/10/2019 17:51

I think the original Halloween is horrific. I watched it for the first time when I was 13 or 14 and I hate it but love it in equal measures. When he is stood by the hedge and is gone again freaks me out soooo much!

I agree that the babadook is good and an unusual story.

Looking forward to hearing others recommendations

thenightsky · 15/10/2019 17:53

The Ring

midnightmisssuki · 15/10/2019 18:10

The original ring. I had to sleep with a bible under my pillow for months.

Sunnysidegold · 15/10/2019 18:13

Someone mentioned wolf creek in another forum I used to frequent. I felt sick with dread watching it.

Then I watched Eden lake. Made me feel the same way. More so because I really like the actress in the main part (Kelly Riley).

I think these scared me most because they are about actual people not supernatural type things.

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/10/2019 18:18

My top ones are-

Creep (the one with the underground)

Jeepers Creepers

The Hills Have Eyes (remake), I also really liked the House of Wax remake too.

Rec (original)

I also loved the Dawn of The Dead remake too.

A lot of remakes I know Blush

PennyNotSoWise · 15/10/2019 18:22

I think these scared me most because they are about actual people not supernatural type things.

I'm the complete opposite. I can watch films like Saw no problem, watch people hack their own arms off and gouge their eyes out, but put a ghost film on and I won't sleep for a week. Such a wuss Blush

For that reason, Insidious (only watched the first one) really creeped me out. And The Autopsy Of Jane Doe. Spooky.

HenSolo · 15/10/2019 18:23

Agree with Rec and The Descent

Event Horizon fucked me up for ages Shock

Dontlikeoranges · 15/10/2019 18:25

peoplearepeople you're my kind of film fan!

MustardScreams · 15/10/2019 18:25

Eden Lake screwed me up for weeks afterwards. The ending is horrendous.

Wolf Creek.
The Hills Have Eyes remake.
Event Horizon, also fucked me up for ages! But I really love it, one of my favourite films.

mumderland · 15/10/2019 18:27

Paranormal activity scared the crap out of me. I can't watch anything with spirits/ghosts. I didnt sleep properly for weeks after and I still feel uneasy walking past the loft hatch 🙈

SomewhereInbetween1 · 15/10/2019 18:29

Eden Lake really shit me up.
The Visit is fantastic.

jaimebravo · 15/10/2019 18:32

Definitely Wolf Creek😬

1wokeuplikethis · 15/10/2019 18:33

The visit is really good, wish I’d never seen it. So that I could watch it afresh again.

Spied · 15/10/2019 18:35

The Omen and The Shining

SnackBadger · 15/10/2019 18:35

I really liked Get Out

Dontlikeoranges · 15/10/2019 18:36

Strangers, You're next, Funny Games, The Shining

Trewser · 15/10/2019 18:36

The third film in VHS2 set in an Indonesian hospital. 25 mins of unrelenting horror. I think its actually on YouTube.

BewilderedOwl · 15/10/2019 18:37

Insidious films
The conjuring
Exorcism of emily rose
Woman in black
White noise

Mama - another ghostie film but it freaked me out so much and I'm usually ok with horrors Haha.
